Chapter 202
True Tycoon Her Empire, Her Rules
Gentry and Sean werenât whispering at all. Everyone, from guests and villagers to the folks watching the liveâstream, caught their every word.
Some, like Gentry, just figured Sean was being modest.
But Winnie knew better. Humility wasnât Seanâs style, so if he said something, it had to be the truth.
However, when she had rushed to the pondâs edge last night, she did feel an elusive trace of mystical energy.
At that time, she had assumed it was Seanâs. But it seems like thatâs not the case now.
So where did that subtle force come from?
Winnie pondered, her gaze drifting towards Gentry, a hunch quietly forming in the back of her mind.
Before long, the group made their way down the hill and back to the village.
The Chief had to inform the villagers about the werewolf sighting, discuss building a shrine, and propose to honor the legend in the town hall. After a quick exchange with the television crew, he led a procession of villagers to prepare for a grand assembly.
Bagot was about to suggest the guests take a break when Joseph, trailed by his cameraman, approached them.
He had skipped the morning hike due to feeling under the weather, but after following their adventure on the live feed, he hurried over as soon as he knew they were back.
Determined to stick with the âGhostly Guidanceâ crew for the next few episodes, he didnât want his fans to think he couldnât make it past one.
Looking refreshed from a good nightâs sleep and this morningâs rest, his youthful vigor was unmistakable as he greeted everyone with enthusiasm and concern, his worry landing deliberately on Winnieâs face.
Then his gaze shifted to Sean standing beside Winnie. The strikingly handsome teenager had an air of awe about him that was hard to miss.
âYou must be Winnieâs brother Sean, right? We owe you one for last night. Didnât get a chance to properly introduce myself. Iâm Joseph, but you can call me Joe.â
With a warm smile, he extended his hand, not waiting for Seanâs consent before eagerly shaking it.
Sean frowned, a hint of impatience on his face. In a swift motion, he suddenly twisted Josephâs wrist.
1050 Josephâs cry of pain caught everyone, crew and viewers alike, completely off guard.
âSean. What are you doing? Let go,â Gentry was the first to react, pulling them apart.
Luckily, Sean hadnât intended to harm anyone and released Joseph as Gentry intervened.
Seeing no serious injury on Josephâs hand, Winnie ignored him and turned to Sean, her voice calm as she asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
Sean, a sea dragon not wellâversed in human niceties, noted the lack of anger in her eyes and huffed, glaring at Joseph with a dangerous tone, âHe touched the palm of my hand. And after, he squeezed.â
Seanâs accusation struck like lightning in broad daylight, shocking the onâsite crew and the live audience.
âWhat did he mean by that? Surely not what Iâm thinking?â
âHold up, Joseph, why would you touch a young guyâs hand like that?â
âCome on, donât talk nonsense. Joe was just being friendly with a handshake. Thereâs no way it was like what he just said. Maybe someoneâs trying to frame my Joe.â
As a child actor turned star, Joseph had a legion of âfansâ who still called him âkiddoâ even though he was now a strapping 19âyearâold.
Seeing someone accusing and attacking their âkiddoâ for no reason set them off, and they jumped into the fray.
âDo you think youâre so pretty that everyoneâs out to get you? That is such a twisted mindset for someone so young. Youâre lucky you have that face.â
âJoe has always been too friendly. Itâs one thing for women to play the victim, but now even guys? This is ridiculous.â
âIs Sean so sensitive because of something that happened to him before? Only those whoâve been violated have such paranoia, thinking the whole world is out to get them.
âThat makes so much sense.â
As the comments in the live chat took a distasteful turn, other viewers couldnât stand it.
âJust Sean expressing his feelings, and here come Josephâs rabid fans attacking anyone in sight?â
âI hate those who spread baseless rumors. Heâs just a boy. Have some decency, will you?â âDidnât you hear what Winnie said last episode? Every spiteful word you type online will come back to haunt you âWhy should he lie about Joseph? He doesnât even know Joe. Why would he make up lies about him?â
Someone must be pulling strings from behind the scenes.
âOh please, Iâll bet itâs someone being manipulated, I wonât say who, but I have my guesses.â
âAm I the only one reminded of the âsixth guestâ curse? Isnât this a sign of impending doom?â
That last comment was lost in the virtual melee as Josephâs fans went ballistic, The live chat descended into chaos as Bagot felt his headache grow. He glanced at Joseph and saw his expression change the moment Sean spoke from shock to a wounded and disbelieving look.
âSean, could there be some misunderstanding? How could I possibly touch and squeeze your hand?â
Joseph, with his acting background, displayed a convincing mix of innocence and helplessness, making bystanders unsure of what to say, Joseph had a decent reputation in the industry, while Sean didnât seem like the type to make false allegations.
âYou deny it?â Seanâs eyes narrowed dangerously. Although he wasnât necessarily looking for a confrontation, as a sea dragon, he wasnât about to be slandered without a response.
A tense aura enveloped Sean as he focused on Joseph, about to make a move.
But before he could, a gentle, warm hand softly landed on his, preventing any further action.
Winnie watched him quietly, her hand gently pressing his downward with a subtlety that belied her comforting intent. Her deepâset eyes held a clear intent to soothe.
Sean, visibly annoyed, let out a huff but didnât pull away from her touch.
Assured that he wouldnât lash out again, Winnie turned back to Joseph with a scrutinizing gaze and spoke, âWhen I first bumped into you yesterday, I felt there was something special about you. I wasnât sure what it was then, but now, I think I get it.â
Her gaze was steady, her eyes seemed to cut through to the heart of matters as she addressed him.
âYouâre gay, arenât you?â
Her words struck with force, no less impactful than Seanâs earlier outburst. A flicker of panic crossed Josephâs eyes, quickly replaced by a facade of indignation and humiliation. âWinnie, even if youâre trying to stand up for Sean, you have no right to slander me like this. How could you possibly think that Iâ¦â
I never slander anyone without cause, and neither would Sean,â Winnie cut him off, her voice firm and resolute, âIf you believe this is slander, then perhaps itâs time to share with everyone what happened when you were seventeen?â
