Chapter 89
True Tycoon Her Empire, Her Rules
Winnieâs voice was neither heavy nor light, yet it carried through the air like a babbling brook, melodious and pleasant to the ear. However, the words she spoke a knack for catching people off guard.
The Coopers, concerned that their daughter was causing a scene, had hurried over to pull her away, only to be stopped short by Winnieâs remark.
Odette Cooper couldnât help but confront her daughter, âRamona! When did you start dating someone? How come I didnât know about It all made sense now. Their daughterâs poor SAT scores was because she was distracted!
Ramona initially taken aback by Winnieâs words, was caught offâguard by her motherâs interrogation, her eyebrows knitting together, âMom, Iâm eighteen. Itâs totally normal to have a boyfriend!â
That admission was as good as a confession.
The Bryants, who had overheard the commotion, tilted their heads in curiosity, but did not rush to cover up Winnieâs supposed ânonsense.â Instead, they seemed intrigued by her claimâs authenticity.
Annoyed by Winnieâs words that led to her motherâs rebuke, and upon remembering the insinuation that her boyfriend had deceived her, Ramona grew even more displeased.
âHow would you know about my boyfriend? Have you seen him?â Snapping, Ramona was certain that Winnie must have seen her with her boyfriend to make such a statement. Winnie, however, faced Ramona with a composed demeanor and replied, âI thought youâd be more curious about what heâs deceived you over.â
Seeing that Winnie was still on about her lies; Ramona couldnât help but glare at her, defiance in her eyes, âYouâre just making things up! My boyfriend would never lie to me: we are incredibly close!â
Ramona figured that at worst, Winnie would suggest her boyfriend was cheating, planting seeds of doubt. She knew that such suspicions could easily lead to conflicts and more doubts. possibly even arguments that could affect her relationship.
Thinking this through, Ramona decided Winnie was a shady person!
Winnie, unperturbed by the hostility, nonchalantly continued, âYour aura shows signs of a rotten peach blossom and dark clouds over your wealth sector, indicating impending financial loss related to your boyfriend.
She paused, then asked, âYour boyfriend, heâs borrowed money from you recently, hasnât he?â
Ramona, ready to counter any wild claim, was caught off guard by this question. Indeed, her boyfriend had borrowed money from herâ¦
Ramonaâs inability to mask her emotions did not go unnoticed by the quests, influential figures all, who now showed a piqued interest in the proceedings.
The Coopers, sensing their daughterâs unease, pressed for answers, âSweetheart, donât tell me Winnie was right; your boyfriend really borrowed money from you?â
Ramona, feeling cornered by her motherâs questioning and the watchful eyes around her, tried to maintain a brave front, âHe⦠he needed funds for a startâ
, and I invested, itâs not a loanâ¦â Odette nearly fainted at her daughterâs words. Initially, she thought it was a trivial loan, akin to tossing coins to a beggar. But the mention of a startâup investment sent shivers down her spine.
âHow much did you lend him?â At that moment, she was calculating how much money her daughter could have possibly accessed.
Ramona, under the intense scrutiny of her mother and the guests, felt her cheeks redden, âNot muchâ¦â Her voice had lost its earlier confidence.
But Odette was not convinced, âHow much?!â
Abbot Cooper, sensing trouble and not wanting to make a scene, gently restrained his wife and turned to Ramona with stern look, âCome with He offered an apologetic smile to Winnie and the other guests, âRamona is young and doesnât know better. Winnie, please donât take it to heart. Iâll have a word with her.â
With that, he led Ramona and Odette away.
The Bryants, being from the same social circles, evoked curiosity rather than ridicule. The talk of fate and fortune by the young Miss Bryant had already intrigued some who believed in such matters.
They had heard about the Bryantsâ involvement in resolving the Sanchez familyâs crisis, where apparently, the young Miss Bryant not only averted disaster for them but also seemed to have changed their daughter for the better.
While many were skeptical, especially those who knew the Sanchez girl still behaved childishly. todayâs events had them wondering if there might be some truth to Winnieâs ability.â
Springer had been observing the commotion from the start, eager to see Winnie put Ramona in her place. How dare she mock Winnieâs school!
As the Coopers were escorted away, half the show cut short, Springer couldnât let it go and sneakily followed.
Soon enough, Springer returned, his face alight with excitement, and the gossip quickly spread among the younger guests.
Ramona had loaned her entire lifeâs savings, a staggering three million dollars, to her boyfriend!
While the sum was alarming to the average person, to the magnates present, it was a trifle. What truly captivated them was the realization that Miss Bryant had predicted it all accurately! The room buzzed with a sort of electric excitement as all eyes turned toward Winnie. There was something about her that drew them in, a curiosity that bordered on fervent.
Clifford, her father, couldnât help but notice the way these esteemed guests were ogling his daughter.
It was supposed to be a simple graduation party, a time to celebrate the end of an academic chapter with a hearty feast. Yet here they were, eyeing Winnie as if she was some sort of oracle.
Despite their curiosity, the influential attendees knew better than to openly request a fortuneâtelling session from such a young lady. After all if word got out that something bad was predicted, it could spell trouble.
While the older generation held back, restrained by their reputation and social etiquette, the younger crowd had no such reservations.
A group of collegeâage kids, friends with Springer, approached Winnie with playful grins.
âWinnie, can you really tell the future? Is that what they teach you at that fancy school of yours? Is that Supernatural Department for real?â they teased.
Winnie turned to face them, a polite smile on her lips, ready to answer, but before she could speak, a familiar voice chimed in from beside her.
âHave you guys been living under a rock? That Supernatural Department isnât just some random place.â
