Chapter 55
A CEO's Revenge Marriage Accidentally in Love
Winnie After making out with Jake, we head outside to find a cab. The air is chilly, but thatâs alright. Jakeâs warm arms are still around me, refusing to let go. Itâs perfect. He is so warm that I donât even want to use my own legs anyway. I could stay like this forever, clinging to him like a koala.
âYouâre so warmâ¦â I mutter against his neck. âAnd you smell nice.â
Jake chuckles. âAre you drunk?â
âNo⦠what makes you think that?â
âYouâre just so filled with compliments today. Itâs a little bit suspicious, is all. But hey, Iâm not complaining about it.â
×× âYou better not. I had to work up a lot of courage to say itâ¦â I giggle. âOr perhaps, Iâm not as sober as I think I am.â
âThatâs probably the case.â
âHey, thatâs mean!â
Suddenly, I hear a chuckle from our side that doesnât belong to Jake. âIâm glad you two found each other. It was about damn time.â
Jake and I both turn our heads and see Nathan grinning at us. His cab is probably about to arrive, and itâs probably time. Alice looks done for tonight. Her head is resting on his shoulder, and her dark hair is spilling out in every direction.
I smile at the image. Iâve always found Alice and Nathanâs relationship interesting. He used to be her bully, but today, he acts like her sweet, large bodyguard.
âYou heading home?â Jake asks.
âYeah, we are heading home,â Nathan confirms, then strokes Aliceâs back with a fond expression. She looks like a frontside. backpack on her huge husbandâs frame. She stirs a little in her sleep, and my heart melts a little when Nathan holds her closer to him.
âYouâre so coldâ¦â Nathan mumbles. âBut donât worry, we will get you home quickly.â
âAw, Aliceâ¦â I say. âIs she not feeling well?â
Nathan meets my eyes. âShe hasnât shown any signs of nausea. I think she will be perfectly fine by tomorrow. But yes, my baby definitely had too much alcohol tonight. Iâm shocked that she hasnât puked by the amount yet.â
Jake snorts, but itâs not mean; itâs one out of concern. âIs she still conscious?â
An amused smile curves Nathanâs lips. âYes, Alice just got sleepy from the buzz and is now busy snoring,â he tightens his hold on his wife, hugging her like she is the most precious thing in the world.
âSometimes, this little one forgets she is a lightweight, and itâs been forever since we had time on our own, so she had a little too much fun tonight. No big deal. I just have to take her out more often.â
âOh, definitely,â I say. âTonight was fun.â It really was. I had flashbacks from our college. days tonight, and I definitely want to hang out again.
âIt was a lot of fun,â Nathan kisses Aliceâs forehead just as the cab arrives. An exasperated sigh leaves Nathanâs lips. â Finally! We have been waiting forever for that cab!â
Jake chuckles. âHave a good night!â
âYou too!â Nathan gives us one last glance back. âHave a good night, and donât hesitate to give us a call if you want to hang out,â he aims a wink at me. âDoubledating would be fun. Alice has been complaining that she misses you, Winnie. You live far away, but you should know youâre always welcome to stay at our place. We might have a million kids, but there is also a guest bedroom.â
His words warm my heart. âThank you. I will definitely visit soon.â
âAlice would like that a lot. She thinks you donât want to hang with her because she has. children and that you find her uncool and annoying now that she is a mom.â
âThatâs not true!â I exclaim. âI just⦠I just donât have the money to travel.â
âI wouldnât mind paying for your flight ticket if it means making my wife happy,â Nathan says. âAsk me next time, and donât feel bad about it. We are rich.â
âI will definitely make use of that!â
Nathan leaves, and I look at Jake. His arms. are still around me, which is good. Itâs cold outside, but his body is like a furnace. I shudder a little, and his expression grows concerned.
âYou want to head home?â Jake grimaces at his choice of words. âSorry⦠to my apartment, I mean?â
âThat would be nice,â I yawn and wrap my arms tighter around his neck. It feels like the most natural thing to do. âYou donât mind carrying me to a cab, do you?â
He breathes a laugh in my ear. âI canât be worse than Nathan, can I?â
âYouâre not worse than Nathan. I raised all of you hockey guys, and I know for a fact that youâre all good guys. No one is worse than the other.â
âRaised us?â Jake questions with a paling face. âIâm sorry to burst your bubble, sweetheart, but youâre younger than me.â
âYet I see myself as your mother sometimes. âI donât. But yeah, I kind of did in the past.
All the hockey guys were like my children. My very big children.
âEew, donât say that!â Jake sounds horrified. âYou canât give me a love confession and then say you see yourself as my mother, Winnie! That is sickening! Youâve watched too much Game Of Thrones.â
âHouse Of The Dragon.â I correct. I love that show, but yeah, there is a lot of incest.
âStillâ¦â he grimaces. âYou sicken me with your words. Itâs not even funny.â
âA little funny.â Iâm laughing inwardly. I agree with Jake and find this topic sickening, but I like messing with him.
âNot even a little.â
I would be laughing at Jakeâs disgusted tone, but Iâm too exhausted. I want a bed and a cozy blanket.
I donât know how but the cold air makes me even more tired. It should be the other way around; the fact that Iâm freezing should make it hard to sleep, yet my eyes are already close to fluttering shut.
Jake squeezes me. âSomeone is a sleepyhead.
âMhm, damn right I amâ¦â Staying awake is becoming harder and harder.
âYouâre fine with sharing the same bed, right?â
A tired laugh escapes me. âDo I get to touch your abs?â
Now itâs Jakeâs turn to laugh. âYou must be tired to say that out loud. That or the alcohol is finally hitting your brain.â
âOr maybe Iâm tired of pretending youâre not sexy and basically walking sex on a stick? âI challenge.
âI like that answer,â he kisses my cheek, and his warm breath hits my ear in a way that curls my toes.
âLetâs head home, and yes, I will let you touch my abs.â
