Chapter 4
My Ex-Wife Is A Big Shot In Disguise
The speed of the car suddenly increased, and Leoâs voice seemed to be distorted by the noisy wind outside. âWhy? Are you in a hurry?â
âWhat did he mean by saying I am in a hurry?â Madison thought. âItâs not like I am about to get into another relationship. Iâm not the one who has someone waiting for me.â
She shook her head, looking serious. âIt should be you whoâs in a hurry.â
Leoâs l*ps lifted slightly, and the car speed gradually stabilized. âIâm not in a hurry.â
Madison went silent. She did not talk anymore.
In any case, she had already signed the divorce papers. Tonight, she would settle things with the Hale family. After that, she would have no more connections with these people.
Half an hour later, the car stopped outside the Hale familyâs villa.
In recent years, the Hale and Palmer families cooperated in business. The Hale familyâs status in high society gradually became more prominent. Many people fawned over and flattered them. By this moment, the luxury cars of the visiting guests had almost occupied all available parking spaces.
She got out of the car. A gust of night wind almost made her shiver. When she looked up, Leo, who was dressed in a suit, was already walking toward the lawn where the party was set up at the villa. Madison had no choice but to follow quickly, holding up the skirt of her dress.
All the guests present cast their eyes in their direction because of Leo.
Roses surrounded the beautiful woman playing the piano. Gifts piled up high next to the five-layer cake. Under the lights and everyoneâs gaze, Leo approached the woman who was playing the music.
It was like a scene from a romantic film that delighted peopleâs hearts.
Approaching them now would seem very indiscreet. Thus, Madison, who was following Leo, slowed down her steps and attempted to blend into the crowd of onlookers.
But before she could disappear into the crowd, Leo suddenly stopped walking and turned to look at her.
It was as if the film had been put on pause at the most exciting part, and a commercial suddenly appeared.
However, Leo didnât think there was anything wrong. He looked at Madison, who was standing in front of the crowd. His eyebrows furrowed. âCome here.â
All the guests turned to Madison at once. Murmurs erupted all around her.
âWho is she? She looks familiar, but I feel like Iâve never seen her.â
âHow could you forget? Sheâs that nob*dy that the Hale family mistakenly carried home from the hospital after being abandoned by her biological parents. Sheâs the one the Hale family kindly raised as Sallyâs real sister. But in the end, she stole Sallyâs fiancé. Itâs disgusting!â
âNow that you mention it, sheâs the one sent abroad by Mr. Palmer on the day of the wedding? How dare she show her face back here? If I were her, I would have jumped off a building already. I would have been too embarrassed to live. How unfortunate that we see her here!â
The people spoke one after another. The looks they cast at Madison were filled with disdain.
The voices were not loud, but Madison, who was close, heard them clear as crystal.
She stood calmly there as though she couldnât hear those unpleasant things said about her and did not walk toward Leo.
Sally, who was playing the piano, already stood up when Leo spoke. She walked gracefully toward Madison. âMadison, when did you return to the country? Why didnât you tell us?â
âReturning to the country without informing her adoptive parents. How impolite and uncultivated!â In everyoneâs minds, Madisonâs image went down another notch.
Madison smiled. âI returned last night and had a call with Ramona this morning. Maybe she was afraid you wouldnât be happy, so she didnât tell you.â
After Sally came back, Madison changed her address to her adoptive parents. Instead of calling them Mom and Dad as she used to, she now referred to them by their names.
âWhy would I be unhappy? With you back, I have a companion and wonât get nagged by my mom every day,â Sally said sweetly to her.
Her behavior made Madison feel disgusted. Restraining her expression, Madison took a small gift box from her handbag. âHappy birthday,â she said.
âYou even prepared a gift for me. Thank you, Madison!â Sally took it, joyfully hugging Madison.
Madison froze entirely.
