Fated to the Cursed Lycan Prince Chapter 1014
Fated To The Cursed Lycan Prince
Lauraâs POV:
After finishing the glassof milk, Beryl lay down and closed her eyes obediently. I leaned forward to k**s her forehead and then tucked her in. She drifted off after a few minutes.
I stroked Berylâs head sorrowfully since I didnât know when we would meet again.
Crystal had informed me that Rufus was already suspicious of her, so he would certainly monitor her for some time. He might even put all her communications under surveillance.
For this reason, I couldnât contact her anymore. I could only wait till Rufusâ doubts died down and he gave up his investigation of her.
I didnât know how long that would take. Once Rufus became suspicious, it would be difficult for him to let the matter go unless Crystal performed another meritorious deed.
I believed that I wouldnât be able to see my grandchildren for a long time now. After some consideration, I took out my phone and clicked a few photos of Beryl. I chose one of them and set it as my phoneâs wallpaper. Beryl was quiet and docile while sleeping. Her long eyelashes were gorgeous. Although the cut of her face was similar to Crystalâs, the shape of her eyebrows and mouth was exactly like Rufusâ. Rufus hadnât noticed this and the thought hadnât crossed his mind yet, perhaps because she was still a kid.
At this moment, a gentle knock sounded at the door. I guessed it was Crystal.
I got to my feet and opened the door. Sure enough, Crystal stood at the threshold. She was still wearing a mask and her hair was neatly tucked under a baseball cap. Her gaze darted around furtively, as if she was afraid someone would follow her.
Feeling amused, I pulled her in. âDonât worry. This is the safest place in the imperial palace. Rufus is respectful and wonât spy on his own mother.â
Crystal took off her cap and mask and smiled sheepishly. âJust in case.â
Shaking my head, I led her into the room and said, âBeryl is asleep.â
âReally? Didnât she cry for Rufus?â Crystalâs eyes flew to me in surprise.
âNo. I led her to believe that she will see her daddy tomorrow, so she didnât create much of a fuss.â I sighed. âI see.â Crystalâs face fell.
No mother wanted to see their child be disappointed or unhappy.
I couldnât stand the sad expression on her face and comforted her, âDonât overthink it. The children will see their father again in the future. For now, you need to only focus on avoiding unnecessary trouble.â
Crystal nodded and pasted a smile on her face as she prepared to see Beryl.
I led her to the bedroom and said, âIâve given Beryl some sleeping powder. Donât worry. Itâs not harmful to her. It will only knock her out for a while.â
When Crystal heard this, she sighed heavily. âIâm afraid that wonât work on Beryl.â
âWhy?â I asked curiously.
The powder I gave her had been specially developed and then tested on adults several times. All the experiments were successful, so it would definitely work on kids.
âBecause of Berylâs special constitution, most medicines donât work on her,â Crystal replied.
I was nonplussed for a moment, before the thought of the special constitution of the black witch entered my mind.
âBut I just left Beryl sleeping soundly a few moments ago.â As I said this, Crystalâs expression shifted and she stared at something behind me.
I was stunned. I whirled around and spotted Beryl standing behind us, watching us curiously.
âBeryl? You are awake?â I was shocked. I thought my plan was very successful, but I hadnât expected that Beryl would pretend to fall asleep.
âI slept for three minutes but had to go to the bathroom now. I drank too much milk and felt too full.â Beryl touched her belly with a pout.
Feeling defeated, I crouched down and rubbed her belly gently. âAre you feeling very uncomfortable?â
Beryl shook her head, âNo, Iâm not.â Then she shifted her attention to Crystal. âWhat are you doing? Why are you talking so mysteriously? Is there something fun? Can I come with you?â
