Fated to the Cursed Lycan Prince Chapter 1044
Fated To The Cursed Lycan Prince
Crystalâs POV:
Startled, I quickly hung up the phone, spun around, and yanked Rufusâ hand away before quickly retreating a few steps away from him.
Rufus stood still, with his arms crossed in front of his chest. He kept his cold gazer at me and asked, âWhy is it that every time you see me, you act as though you bumped into a ghost?â
âIt is because you always appear behind me without making any sound.â I curled my lips as I said those words.
Rufus chuckled and eyed me from head to toe. Then, he asked, âWhy do you look so guilty? What have you done?â
I turned my head away from him and said in an unnecessarily loud voice to hide my nervousness, âIf I actually did something wrong, Iâd be very careful to hide it from others. How could I just wait here to be busted? Tell me. What do you want from me this time? Make it quick because Iâm very busy.â Every time this guy showed up, he would pick on me. I had a hunch that he had made this his bad habit.
âAre you busy looking for someone right now?â Rufus asked casually.
I paused for a moment. Then I frowned and asked, âWhat did you hear?â
âNothing. I just heard that you were looking for someone.â
After saying that, he paused before suddenly bending over and closing the distance between us. With his eyes pierced on mine, he asked, âWhat? Are you afraid that I will hear something I shouldnât?â I violently shoved him away and growled, âItâs nothing. A child in my pack went missing. Iâm arranging people to look for him.â
âWell, if you need help, I can ask Blair to arrange the royal army to search for him,â Rufus muttered disapprovingly while standing straight.
I frowned and refused his kindness. âDonât bother. Iâve sent my men to look for him. If we really canât find him, only then will I ask for help.â
I didnât want to bring up Blair in front of Rufus too much. I should keep pretending to not know Blair until the very end so that Rufus wouldnât become suspicious again. The last time we had a video call with Blair, Rufus came dangerously close to uncovering something. I should therefore avoid running into my old friends in front of Rufus in the future.
Rufus clicked his tongue and didnât insist anymore. Instead, he changed the topic and said, âLetâs have dinner together tonight.â
âNo, thanks. Iâm busy,â I refused without hesitation.
I just wanted to stay away from this guy who was everywhere, and calmed myself down.
Ian ran away from home, and I was not in the mood at all. If Rufus hadnât kept an eye on me and forbade me from leaving the imperial capital, I might have already been on the way searching for Ian myself.
Rufus looked very calm, as if he had expected my answer. He said, âIt wonât take much of your time. Beryl will also be there.â
Hearing this, I started to contemplate my initial decision. My baby Beryl wouldnât also be there. I would miss the chance to bond with her if I didnât accept his dinner invitation. It took me a long time to make Beryl slowly accept me again. I should keep working on it. But I was afraid that Rufus would ask me about my past. I couldnât fool him with my excuses all the time. It might work for the first few times, but I was pretty sure he would catch on to something sooner or later. If that happened, he would be even more suspicious of me.
âBeryl said today is her birthday. You even forgot that?â Rufus scowled and cast an intent glance my way.
âWhat? Today is not herâ¦â Before I could finish my words, I suddenly remembered something. Tears then began welling up in my eyes.
Today was Ianâs birthday.
We had made the day I met Ian for the first time as his birthday since we didnât know the exact date that he was born. Every year on this day, Beryl would throw a lavish celebration for Ian.
Even when Beryl had lost her memory, she still remembered the most important thing in her heart.
