Chapter 1149 - 1149 Rejection
The Formidable Son-In-Law: The Charismatic Lucas Gray
1149 Rejection
Leila really wanted to join the rest in saving Everleigh since Everleigh was their roommate, with whom they had lived in the same dorm room for four years.
But Lucas had nothing to do with Everleigh. To put it bluntly, Lucas didnât even have any ties with Leila. They only happened to become acquainted and had a brief conversation before she tricked him into acting as her shield.
Thus, Leila couldnât bring herself to ask him to go with her to save Everleigh.
Alyssa glowered at Lucas and said, âForget it. Leave him alone! Since he chooses to sit here like a coward, letâs just take it that he doesnât exist! Everleigh is still in the hands of those people. Letâs quickly go save her!â
Considering how urgent the situation was, the rest stopped bothering with Lucas and rushed over to save Everleigh.
As Everleighâs roommate, Leila naturally went with them.
All of a sudden, Lucas was the only one left in the room.
He remained sitting and ate calmly, as if nothing had happened.
Soon, the door of the private room was pushed open again. Roger and the rest returned after successfully rescuing Everleigh
But Everleigh looked terribly frightened, and she stuck close to Roger while holding his sleeve meekly like a dainty little girl. Her eyes were full of tears, and her hair was a little messy. She looked extremely pitiful.
âMr. Dunne, thank you so much for saving me! I almost⦠almost thought I was about to be bullied by them. Thankfully you came to my rescue and saved me! I⦠I really donât know how to thank you!â Everleigh said with tears in her eyes.
The gratitude and admiration on her face were obvious.
She was practically like a damsel in distress gazing gratefully at the hero who saved her. Next, she would probably give herself to him to repay him for the life-saving grace.
Roger was about to embrace the frightened Everleigh when he suddenly saw Leila standing nearby from the corner of his eye. He immediately remembered that Leila was the woman he wanted the most at the moment, so he couldnât show his true colors in front of her, lest she mistook him for a playboy.
âAhem!â Roger coughed twice before saying to Everleigh, âItâs okay. Itâs what I should do. Youâre Leilaâs roommate! Since you were forcibly dragged away, of course I had to go save you.â
As soon as Everleigh heard this, her body stiffened, and she almost burst into tears.
She originally thought that Roger had rushed over to save her because he liked her.
But she never thought that Roger was still thinking about Leila all this while.
Didnât he just mean that he had saved her because she was Leilaâs roommate?
This simply made Everleigh green with envy and jealousy. She dug her nails into the flesh of her palm to control her jealousy and hatred toward Leila.
Alyssa said, âLeila, look at Mr. Dunne. Heâs such a great, loyal, and righteous man. Only men like him are the most reliable! Look at the loser boyfriend you found. As soon as something happened, he chickened out. He was too scared to even show his face. Are you sure you want a man like him?
âI think you should break up with him before itâs too late! Look at how wonderful Mr. Dunne is!â
Bethany hurriedly said, âExactly! He comes from a good family, is handsome, and has good character. The Dunnes will soon become one of the eight most powerful families in DC, and he is the Dunnesâ future helmsman. Whoever is lucky enough to marry him will be the subject of everyoneâs envy!
âLeila, donât be silly. Itâs rare that Mr. Dunne is sincere about you. You should get rid of that loser and get together with Mr. Dunne!â
Everyone persuaded Leila, and even Everleigh smiled pretentiously and advised Leila to agree to Rogerâs courtship.
With a gentlemanly expression, Roger said softly to Leila, âLeila, you know that I like you, and Iâve already confessed to you twice at the entrance of your dormitory. Unfortunately, you didnât show up either time.
âNow, Iâd like to take the opportunity to tell you again in person that I really like you, and Iâd like to date you. Please be my girlfriend!â
âSay yes! Say yes!â
âSay yes! Say yes!â
â¦
As soon as Roger finished speaking, Alyssa, Samuel, Bethany, and Hayden started chanting to urge her to accept.
Anyone with weak willpower would probably be overwhelmed and agree right away.
But Leila obviously wasnât such a person.
In the face of Rogerâs confession, as well as the surrounding crowd, Leila remained composed. She looked at Roger and said clearly, âIâm sorry, but I already have a boyfriend, and I donât plan to break up with him. Mr. Dunne, please find someone else!â
When he saw Leila reject him again, his face was a little sullen. But no matter what, he had to maintain a gentlemanly demeanor in front of her.
With a somewhat stiff smile and pretending to be suave, Roger said, âIt seems that Iâve had too little contact with you, so you donât understand me well enough to like me. This is my fault.
âI wonât choose someone else. Iâll do my best to make sure you see my qualities so that you will like me someday!â
Roger showed a determined smile.
Alyssa and Bethany immediately said enviously, âLeila, look how smitten and devoted Mr. Dunne is to you! Weâre so envious of you for having such a wonderful man like you!â
âYeah! Leila, youâre so heartless. How could you not be touched by him?! Youâre going too far!â
Everleigh reluctantly forced a smile without saying anything.
She was really jealous of Leila, so much so that she was afraid that she would say something unpleasant if she spoke now.
Why?!
What is so good about Leila that Mr. Dunne likes her so much?
Everleigh felt that her looks were not much worse than Leilaâs, and in order to be single again and get together with Roger, she had even broken up with her obedient boyfriend. Yet Roger didnât take a liking to her at all and still only had eyes for Leila.
Everleigh was really indignant!
Boom!
Suddenly, the door of the private room was kicked open from the outside, and a large group of burly men charged in and glowered menacingly at everyone in the room.
The leader of the group, a middle-aged man of about forty years old, stood in front of the burly men and questioned angrily, âWho beat up my brother just now? Get your ass out here!â
