Chapter 1298 - 1298 Bringing Under Command
The Formidable Son-In-Law: The Charismatic Lucas Gray
1298 Bringing Under Command
Seeing the expression on Lucasâs face, Damon added softly, âOf course, Iâm just making a suggestion. Itâs entirely up to you if you want to keep Jonah Fuller around!â
He thought that Jonah did have some talent in business. If Lucas brought him under his command, Jonah might be of some help to him. But Damon knew that he couldnât interfere with Lucasâs decision to take Jonah in or not.
Because Damon had whispered into Lucasâs ear, no one else knew what he said.
Jonah looked at Lucas expectantly.
!!
Now, his mindset was completely different.
Although Jonah resented and feared Lucas previously, he was now full of expectations for him. He wished that Lucas would accept him and bring him under his command.
Bruce and Edmund stood still without saying anything. They had just arrived in DC and didnât know much about the forces and families here. Thus, they couldnât give Lucas any suggestions and could only let him decide.
Lucas looked at Jonah and suddenly asked, âSince you want to work for me, how can I trust that you wonât betray me in the future?â
Lucas rarely took in subordinates, and even when he did, it had to be people he trusted. For example, Damon, Bruce, Edmund, etc. had experienced many incidents and tests before Lucas felt that they were trustworthy and agreed to keep them by his side. From time to time, he would also give them opportunities to expand their families.
But Jonah was different.
About ten minutes ago, Jonah was full of hostility toward Lucas. Yet now, he was taking the initiative to pledge allegiance to Lucas. According to Lucasâs previous practice, he absolutely wouldnât accept someone like him as his subordinate.
But Jonah really did have some skills, and his perception wasnât bad either. After realizing Lucasâs true identity, he instantly changed drastically and even wanted to stay by Lucasâs side at all costs. As such, Jonah could be considered a smart person.
Jonah knew that his earlier behavior was rather distasteful. Besides, he had just met Lucas, so it was indeed difficult to make Lucas believe that he wouldnât betray him in the future.
Even if he swore that he wouldnât betray Lucas, it still wouldnât be convincing enough.
After thinking about it, Jonah said, âThis is truly hard to prove. But I believe that given how powerful you are, even if I betray you, youâll be able to resolve it easily.
âRegardless of whether I betray you or not, betrayal is simply a non-issue to you, isnât it?â
Jonahâs answer stunned everyone.
After hearing his answer, Lucas had a look of satisfaction in his eyes.
Indeed, even if Jonah betrayed him in the future, with Lucasâs power and abilities, it would be a piece of cake for him to deal with Jonah.
Besides, Lucas believed that after Jonah spent some time with him and understood a bit of his true power, he wouldnât be so stupid as to think of betraying him.
He had indeed been thinking too much.
âIn that case, Iâll give you a chance to follow me as you wish,â Lucas said nonchalantly.
Jonah was overjoyed and exclaimed, âYes! Thank you so much for this chance, Mr. Gray. Iâll definitely do my best to be as useful as I can. Iâll do anything for you!â
Lucas said, âDonât be so eager to thank me yet. There are still some things I have to make clear to you. One, I donât keep loafers around me. If you canât show me satisfactory competency, I wonât keep a good-for-nothing around. Two, I absolutely loathe betrayal, so if I find out that youâve dared to betray me, I wonât spare you easily! Do you understand?â
At this moment, the two bodyguards holding Jonah down released him under Damonâs signal.
As soon as Joanh regained freedom, he knelt and said respectfully. âMr. Gray, donât worry! I certainly wonât let you down! If you think Iâm incompetent or disloyal, you wonât need to say anything. Iâll get rid of myself so that you wonât be put in a spot!â
Lucas stared at Jonah for a long time and could tell that he meant what he said from the bottom of his heart and that it just wasnât rhetoric. He nodded and said, âIn that case, you are now my subordinate, and I wonât interfere too much. You will still manage the Fullersâ assets. Just remember what youâve said today.â
Hearing this, Jonah was overjoyed and unable to believe his ears.
He didnât expect that after he surrendered to Lucas and offered his familyâs assets, Lucas didnât want anything and let him keep them.
To Jonah, this was a godsend opportunity, and he felt extremely grateful to Lucas!
âMr. Gray, Iâll always remember your great kindness. I definitely wonât disappoint you! Otherwise, Iâll be struck by lightning and die a horrible death!â
In his excitement, he even swore an oath.
Lucas smiled and shook his head without saying anything.
Seeing that the matter had been settled, Damon stepped forward and pulled Jonah up from the floor. âMr. Fuller, congratulations. From today onward, weâll be friends in the same camp!â
Jonah got up from the floor with Damonâs help and said with a look of shame and guilt, âMr. Parker, I really have no words. I solemnly apologize for the disrespect Iâve shown to you and the Parkers. Thank you for not holding it against me.â
Damon patted Jonah on the shoulder and laughed. âHaha, the matter has already passed, so thereâs no need to mention it again. From now on, weâll be comrades, so you donât have to be polite!â
Bruce and Edmund walked over with smiles. âMr. Fuller, weâll be a family from now on. Let bygones be bygones!â
Jonah still didnât know Bruceâs and Edmundâs identities, but he had seen the two of them sitting with Damon and Lucas, so he could guess that they were close to Lucas. He just didnât know how he should address them.
Acting as an intermediary, Damon introduced, âYou still donât know who they are, right? Let me introduce them. This is Mr. Bruce Hale, the former helmsman of the Hale family, and the gentleman next to him is Mr. Edmund Cole, the helmsman of the Cole family.â
With his head held high, he said confidently, âNow, the Hales and the Coles have just arrived in DC, but in no time, they will definitely rise up and become formidable families here like the Parkers!â
