It was an exquisite purple feather quill pen crafted from silver, which cost Nydia over 200,000 dollars.
Nydia stood up and handed the present to Orson, saying, âHappy birthday, Orson! Here is a present to celebrate your future health, wealth, and happiness.â
Orson revealed a satisfied smile and nodded to indicate Nydia to sit down.
Maren felt Nydia embarrassed her before the women folks. Thus, she glared at Nydia, took out a key from her purse, and respectfully handed it to Orson, saying, âOrson, remember how you mentioned wanting to spend your winter in Hepcaster? Well, I happened to tell Josephine about it, and guess what? She went ahead and bought you a house there. Iâve already checked it out myself. Itâs quite lovely. Nestled in the mountains, facing the sea, the scenery is breathtaking. Itâs the perfect spot for your retirement.â
Everyone at the table fell into silence once Maren finished her words.
Nydia gripped her fork more tightly and buried herself in the food. To everyone else, Marenâs words seemed not to hurt Nydia a bit.
Cade glanced at Nydia from the corner of his eye, and his expression changed. He murmured inside, âNydiaâs mindset is as good as her appetite.â
Maren acted without thinking. She focused too much on winning this competition that she failed to consider the circumstances. Cade became the CEO of Jackson Group, and his branch got the power of the family. These were enough for Zachary Jacksonâs and Quincy Jacksonâs families to get jealous. When Zachary and Quincyâs families had been biding their time to confront Maren, Maren eagerly threw an opportunity to them.
Men rarely intervened in the family disputes at the table, knowing that doing so could jeopardize their superficial brotherhood. Instead, women were accustomed to this battlefield.
Zacharyâs wife, Melissa Jackson, spoke before Orson could react. âMaren, it seems youâre using Orson to get that house. You know Orson doesnât like the girl from the Brooks family, but you mention her anyway. Have you ever paid attention to
Orsonâs words?â
Hearing Melissaâs words, Orson shot Maren a piercing glare.
Sienna gently said, attempting to diffuse the tension, âMelissa, no need to be so harsh on Maren. She means no harm.â
Melissa felt disgusted and glared at Sienna, replying, âOh, sure. Everyone knows youâre the best person in the family. Yet, this is none of your business.â
Maren and Melissa had been enemies for a long time. Therefore, Maren would not easily forgive Melissa after Melissa publicly embarrassed her.
Maren questioned, âWell, Melissa. If you pay attention to Orsonâs words, you wouldnât have cultivated your son that way. You brought shame to the Jackson family. He flirts with any woman he meets. I heard he even got a college girl pregnant?â
Marenâs words pierced Melissaâs heart like bullets. Melissa was so irritated that she felt dizzy, shouting, âOh? Then what

about your cultivation for your son? You give him free rein to mess around with girls. You even allow him to bring his lover home. Thatâs whatâs made the Jackson family a laughing stock in Creekheim.â
Cade looked over coldly. His icy gaze swept over Melissa, instantly sending a chill down her spine and tempering her aggressiveness.
Nydia chewed her food and chuckled inwardly, thinking, âSure, this tycoon family may dazzle everyone with its glamour and nobility, but beneath that facade lies a darkness far deeper than what can be found in ordinary families.â
Melissa exclaimed, âYou!â
Orson roared angrily, âEnough!â
Everyone immediately stopped talking.
Maren and Melissa continued their fight with eye contact. Lacie pulled Maren over and whispered in her ear to persuade her to stop provoking Orson.
Orson shouted, âYou all claim everythingâs done for my sake, yet fight with each other at my birthday party. Look at you. Without your human skin, youâre no different from animals.â
Orson looked furious. He glanced at his hypocritical and coldâbloody children and felt bitterly disappointed. He had no mood to stay. Thus, he stood up and said, âNydia, follow me.â
Nydia was stunned, but she quickly reacted. She stood up, held Orsonâs arm, and walked him to his study.
Winter,in Creekheim was as brutal as ever. This city was blanketed in snow for at least three days a week.
Nydia made a cup of hot coffee and handed it to Orson. He held it and took a sip of it.
Orson stayed silent, and Nydia did not press for answers. This was the family rule as well as Nydiaâs habit.
Nydia was clever, dutiful, and always kept her composure. Those were what Orson liked the most about her.
Orson placed the cup on the table next to the sofa. His sharp and determined eyes bore witness to years of battles in the ruthless business world. Everyone would become timid when facing those eyes.
He asked in a deep voice, âHowâs everything in the company?â Nydia dared not to hide anything from Orson, so she reported everything to him honestly.
Orson nodded in response. Actually, he knew everything that happened in that company. He asked Nydia because he was curious to see how she would respond. He commented inside, âHer answer is objective, detailed, and offers a comprehensive view. Well done!â
Orson asked further, âHow is everything with you and Cade?â
Nydia choked up, and her body tensed. Her reaction was exposed before Orson. Consequently, Orsonâs expression darkened.
Orsonâs response dripped with icy disdain. âIâve given you five years, and still, you failed to make a man fall for you? I

expected more from you.â
}
Nydia clenched her hands into fists, her nails biting into her palms. She gave her silence as a yes.
Nydia thought, âI failed to win Cadeâs heart because itâs already taken by someone else. How can I ever win Cade over?â
Orson continued, âI heard that woman managed to get in the company. Furthermore, sheâs attending my birthday party today. Do I need to remind you of whatâs happening?â
Nydia said, âOrson, Iâm sorry to disappoint you.â
Orson remarked, âA manâs love may fade over time. He canât remain devoted to just one woman for his entire life. However, having a child changes things. The child becomes a bond that ties him down. Heâll eventually return to his child no matter how far he has been. Throughout history, men have always cared most about their bloodline. Nydia, I understand your pursuit is never living a happy life and growing old with Cade. However, you can give birth to his child to tie him down and maximize your benefits. Securing your future with glory and prosperity is your current urgent task.â
Expressing himself in a meandering manner was never Orsonâs style, especially when talking to Nydia. He believed that Nydia was sharp enough to realize what he implied.
Orson reminded Nydia that she should have Cadeâs child before Josephine won Cade over. Nydiaâs child could be a leverage for her to secure a better life and the power in the Jackson family.
Nydia should have felt grateful to Orson for his consideration toward her. After all, not everyone would have the privilege of receiving advice from the head of the Jackson family.
She would have gladly welcomed Orsonâs suggestion if she had received it earlier. However, she constantly felt overwhelmed without understanding why and longed to escape from this place.
Orson said, âYou and Cade can stay in the Jackson Mansion. No need to rush back to Silent Court. Youâd better share me with some exciting news by the end of this year.â He was creating an opportunity for Nydia and Cade and sending the order
to Nydia.
Nydia pursed her lips and nodded, replying, âOrson, Iâll do it.â
Nydia heaved a sigh of relief after she went out of the study. The order of giving birth to Cadeâs child gave her a headache.
She thought, âHaving Cadeâs child sounds like a practical strategy to tie me with the Jackson Group, but itâs the last thing I want to do. Thatâs why I always take a pill after spending a night with Cade. Iâve never considered the possibility of living a happy life and growing old with him. Itâs even challenging for us to even like each other.â
Waves of laughter came from downstairs.
Nydia walked downstairs and captured the source of the laughter.
Quincy and his wife and Zachary and his wife went to rest. Orson was not with Nydia. Maren, Lacie, and Josephine were the ones still lingering there.
