Lin Nuan examined Wen Moshenâs emaciated face. Four whole years felt like an eternity long. The heaviness in her heart made it hard to breathe.
Lin Chen still had matters to attend to. He received one call after another from the office.
âLin Chen, Lin Nuan⦠thank you both for coming to see Moshen.â Wen Moshenâs father still upheld his classy elegance in showing his gratitude towards them, âLittle Song, thank you for entering the operation room to specifically ask about Moshenâs condition. He would be glad to know about that once he wakes up. Itâs getting late, you should attend to your own mattersâIâll call you once he wakes up.â
Lin Chen nodded and turned towards Lin Nuan. âItâs four-forty already, Iâll drop you off at the radio stationâ¦â
Lin Nuanâs show began at six.
âItâs out of your way, Iâll take a cab there myselfâ¦â
Furrowing his eyebrows, Lin Chen was going to say something when Wen Moshen stated, âBrother Lin Chen, let me send off Nuan Nuan. Iâm going back to my company, itâs along the wayâ¦â
Wen Moshenâs father nodded, âLet Moshi drop you off. Your company is making so many calls, it must be an urgent matter.â
â¦
Lin Nuan sat in Wen Moshenâs car without saying a single word.
She looked outside at the streets moving backward, her thoughts on Mushroom who had just passed away today.
If Wen Moshen had come back just a bit earlier, how glad would Mushroom be?
âNuan Nuan, Nuan Nuan?â Wen Moshi called her twice.
âYes?â Lin Nuan snapped out of her thoughts, her hand numb from the vibration of her phone.
Wen Moshi turned the steering wheel and glanced at Lin Nuan through the corner of his eye, âYour phone is ringing, why are you daydreaming?â
Bai Xiaonian was calling. Lin Nuan picked up.
âHave you reached the radio station yet?â
âOn the wayâ¦â
âThen bring back two doughnuts from Haiweiâs place for me. And two cups of warm milk tea,â Bai Xiaonian said, unable to contain the joy in her voice.
âOkay.â
As she hung up, Lin Nuan saw that they were approaching Haiweiâs Doughnut shop and said to Wen Moshi, âYou can drop me off right at the entrance. The radio station is only one turn away, Iâll walk there once I finish buying my stuff.ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âItâs fine, Iâll drive you thereâ¦â
Wen Moshen turned on the indicator and pulled over to the side of the road.
âThank you for sending me here. Itâs only a short distance so I can walk there myself. Goodbyeâ¦â Lin Nuan said as she got out of the car. Wen Moshen mouthed a few words with his lips but before he could get her to stay a little longer, she had already closed the door.
Wen Moshen watched as Lin Nuan entered the Haiwei doughnut shop and stood last in line behind the long queue. After hesitating for a moment, he left.
Business was booming in the Haiwei Doughnut shop. There was always a long queue. Lin Nuan didnât like sweet food that much, but she often accompanied Bai Xiaonian to visit that place.
As Lin Nuan came out of the shop with the doughnuts and milk tea in her hands, to her surprise she saw Wen Moshi outside smoking near his car.
He put out the cigarette after seeing her come out of the shop and flashed her a smile.
Wen Moshi did leave just then, but he decided to turn back at the second traffic light.
It was because Wen Moshenâs return had deeply moved him. Especially when the notices of medical crises came out one after another from the operating room, he suddenly gained a deeper understanding of how fragile life was.
He didnât want to regret not doing certain things until he lost the opportunity to do them, and he didnât want to agonize over things he didnât say until he couldnât speak of them anymore.
Wen Moshi walked in front of Lin Nuan and offered to carry the packages for her, but she stepped back right in time.
âThe station is just one turn away and a three-minute walk, you donât need to drive me thereâ¦â
âLin Nuan, I have something to tell youâ¦â Wen Moshi usually never called her by her name so formallyâhe had always addressed her by âNuan Nuanâ like Wen Moshen did.
