Chapter 14

The Alpha's Little Mate

As I lay here, just watching Jason sleep, I can't help but be the happiest woman in the world. We are officially mated. And I'm not afraid to admit it, I love him. Everything makes sense when we're together.

Listening to his light snores, and watching his chest rise and fall make me so happy. I want to wake up everyday like this. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for him. I'm so devoted to this man, and everything he can provide for me. I'm officially his Luna.

A snapping from outside rouses me from our bed. Slipping on his t-shirt, I looked out the window. Trevor was outside.

Running downstairs, I stop at the backdoor.

"Why are you here?"

"I'm sorry I couldn't stay before. I know you have questions."

"What happened to you?"

"I can't stay." He looked to the horizon, the sun was rising. "I'm going to leave this here." Showing me a letter, he left it propped against the door. "I love you, Dakota."

"I love you, Trevor."

A noise from upstairs caught my attention. It must be Jason.

"Dakota!"

Quickly reaching out, I grabbed the note and tucked it into a book on the nearby shelf. "I'm here," I called back. Remember, Huck Finn. Shuffling out to the kitchen, Jason looks worried. "What's wrong?"

"You scared me. I rolled over, and you weren't in bed anymore. Where did you go?"

Shrugging my shoulders, I knew I couldn't tell him the truth. Not only did Trevor practically beg me not to, but I wouldn't even know how to tell Jason that my supposed dead brother was infact, not dead. I hated lying to Jason; he never lied to me. Breaking the trust was going to be the hardest thing I had to do.

"I couldn't sleep, so I was watching the sun come up."

Something didn't sit right with him, I could see it in his eyes. He wasn't entirely convinced.  "Are you sure you're alright?" He slid his hands over my hips, gently pulling me towards him.

"Of course, honey." Smiling up at him, I honestly wasn't sure how convincing I was being. It would have to do for now.

Nuzzling his nose to mine, I felt his warm breath fan on my face. "I love you."

"I love you, too." Pausing for a moment, something occurred to me, and I knew this would make him happy. "Why don't we move the Luna ceremony up?"

Raising his eyebrows, clearly he ws suprised. "What? Are you sure?"

Joy came over his face. Picking me up, he twirled me around. "Oh, baby. You don't know how happy that makes me. I'll call my Mom in a couple hours and let her know. She can call the packs, and make arrangements." Peering over at the kitchen clock, he rubbed his eyes. "Come one, it's still early. Let's go back to bed."

"Race ya!"

Bolting up the stairs, I heard a growl from behind me. "I'm coming for you."

Trevor POV

Dakota. My beautiful baby sister.

I've been watching her for years.

Her guilt prevented her from knowing I was there. Sadly, I used that to my advantage.

I was proud of my little brother for stepping up to Alpha, though. Devon was doing so well. His mate was perfect for him. Knowing exactly what to say and when to say it. She wasn't afraid to smack him around some, too.

It saddened me to think that Dakota didn't feel she was worthy of a mate. Her guilt manifested so severely that most days she was locked in her room. As a little girl, she was always hard-headed, and strong. Dad always said it was my job to watch over her, no matter what.

~Flashback to the attack~

"Hey, Dakota. Don't get too far ahead," I called.

Hearing her giggles always made me smile. Being a big brother was one of the best gifts I could have gotten. Devon doesn't quite feel that way, but he still loves our baby sister.

Silence hit the trail.

"Dakota?!" I yelled out panicked.

Jogging around the corner, Dakota was waiting for me at the fork in the trail.  "I'm here, Trevy."

Holding my chest, I breathed a sigh of relief. Dad would kill me if anything happened to her. "Good job, waiting, Dak." Holding my hand out, I felt her little hand intertwine with mine. "Remember which way go?"

"This way." She pointed towards the left.

"Good girl."

We were walking for what seemed like forever. I could tell that Dakota was starting to get tired. Her steps were slowing. "We're almost home, honey," I encouraged her.

That seemed to give her more spring in her step. She released my hand when she saw colorful flowers right at the edge of the trail. "Look how pretty," she beamed at me.

Chuckling at her, my attention was snapped away when a smell hit my nose. Oh, no.

Grabbing Dakota up, I knelt down to speak to her. "Dakota, I need you to listen to me very carefully. When I let you go, you have to run. Run as fast as you can home. I'm going to mind-link Dad, and he'll send help. But I need you to keep moving no matter what you hear. Do you understand?"

Tears covered her little face. She knew that if I spoke like this, bad things would happen. "Why, Trevy?"

"Just do as I say!"

Releasing, her little legs carried her off as fast as they could.

Turning, there were two vampires before me. Their fangs were bared, but I was ready to fight. A different smell hit me. Something I didn't expect came towards me.

Rogue wolves.

With vampires?

Shifting back, his nose was in the air. He was thin, dark hair, muscles over his body. "Hmm, what is that delicious smell?"

Growling, I readied myself. "Nothing you need to concern yourself with."

Judging by her scent, Dakota did exactly what I told her. My only saving grace would be to start running, and hope that Dad manages to get the warriors to our position on time.

Taking off the other way, I shifted into my wolf. 'Dad! Dad! I need help!'

'What's wrong, son? Where's Dakota?'

'I sent Dakota ahead on foot, but they're chasing me. I'm moving as fast as I can down the path towards the pack house.'

'Who is it, Trevor?'

'I don't know, Dad. So far two rogues, and a vampire.'

'I'm sending out the warriors. Get to your sister, bring yourselves home.'

'I'm getting close to her. Hurry, Dad. They're gaining on me.'

Cutting the link, I knew Dad was sending the best. I just have to get to Dakota, we can hide, and the warriors will take care of the rest.

Whoever the hell it is, wants my sister. Finds my sister delicious. I can't let them get her.

Rounding the corner, I see Dakota running for her life. Though she's young, she's fast.

Snorting, she stops when she sees me. Right when I start to pass by her, I nosed her onto my back. Hearing her heart beat, she's frightened out of her mind. This is one of those times I wish I could mind link her. She's too young yet.

We were so close. I could smell the warriors coming.

Then, we both hit the ground and rolled. Shifting back, I saw Dakota half-unconscious. Scrambling over to her, I shook her slightly. Opening her eyes more, fear engulfed her.

"What do we do, Trevy?"

"You find a place to hide. The warriors are coming."

"What about you?"

"I'm going to fight as long as I can. Whatever you do, do not move until someone comes for you." Her little eyes were turning red with tears. Kissing her forehead, something in my gut told me this was goodbye. "I love you, Dakota."

"I love you, Trevy," she sobbed.

"Run, run now!"

Watching her little form run, I felt a presence behind me. "Aren't you a good big brother?" the vampire hissed.

"Stay away from my sister!" I spewed at him.

The wolves flanked him, and they were ready to fight. All I could hope was that I stall them long enough for the warriors to arrive.

Waving his right hand, the wolf on the right charged at me. Shifting, I grabbed the wolf by the throat, ripping it from his body.

The vampire seemed impressed by me. "No ordinary wolf, are you? I'm guessing son of the Alpha."

In the distance, there were howls.

'Trevor, we're almost there. Hang on.' I heard my Dad ring in my head.

Looking to his left, the vampire waved off the wolf. "You're mine, pup."

Bolting, I thought I could outrun him. Instead, my body was flung into a tree with a sickening thud. "You can't win." As I tried to get up, a hand came to my neck. Instinctively, I shifted back to human form. "I have a better use for you."

My last memory was sharp pain in my neck.

~flash forward to the Blood Pack lair~

"Hey, Trevor, where you been?" a voice called.

That voice was Kyle, my only good friend in this god forsaken pack. I hated it here, but so did most of us. Over the years, people have come and gone...rather been murdered. The only reason I haven't, is because I'm special.

Kyle stayed close to me;  he was kicked out from his pack for insubordination. "Dude, where you been?"

"I had to run an errand," I responded coldly.

"Drake has been looking for you."

Drake Bacchus, our Alpha, was one of the most ruthless beings I had ever encountered. If someone did something he deemed out of line, he would be executed. It's a wonder this pack has members. Comprised mostly of rogues, there was the occasional vampire sprinkled in. They tended to keep to themselves.

"Trevor!" Drake called out.

"Yes, Alpha."

"Where were you?"

"I was hungry," I lied. Kyle knew I was lying, but he didn't know where I was. If I told Drake where I had been, then all hell would break loose. I'm not subjecting my sister to that asshole. He's seen her already, but he doesn't know where she is now.

Narrowing his eyes at me, I had to be convincing. "Come with me. Someone wants to see you."

Nodding, I complied with the Alpha's orders.

Going into his office, there's a familiar stink in here.

The office chair spins, and the bastard that took me from my family is smirking at me. Growling, I hear a counter growl to me left; Drake.

Before me sat the vampire that changed the course of my life forever. Blaine, perhaps the eldest vampire in the country. Most of the vamps in the pack are his doing. He hasn't been around in years. After he made me, he disappeared for quite some time. It would make sense now that he's back since I have an idea of why he's here.

"What is he doing here?"

Stupid smirk, I'd like to rip his heart out. "I'm simply here because now is the time to strike."

"Strike against what?"

"Your former pack."

"What? Why?"

"For multiple reasons. First, Drake will absorb the power in the region, and become the most powerful wolf in the country. Second," he took a deep inhale, "I want that delicious smelling specimen from all those years ago. Why do you think I made you? This was always the plan. Once she's a ripened fruit, I pick her."

Growling, somehow none of this surprises me. "There is no reason to destroy the Moon Goddess Pack. They're peaceful."

"Then what do you suggest?" Drake spit.

"Take what we need, and nothing else. Open war with the Moon Goddess Pack with involve the Black Forest Pack, and perhaps others.

"Oh, Alpha Jason Morgan. Quite the formidable enemy. Never been in a battle he hasn't won."

"Who cares? We have the numbers?" Drake spewed.

"A bunch of undisciplined rogues,"  Blaine hissed. "I have a better idea."

Dakota POV

Diedre has been running around the house like a crazy wolf trying to make all the arrangements for this weekend. Anthony was trying to keep up with her, but gave up after thirty minutes. I couldn't help but laugh at them.

Having already called my parents, they planned on coming the day before. They were very excited about the ceremony. Devon had mixed feelings about it. I think it was more the idea that his little sister had sex; grossed him out.

Now he knows how I feel when he has sex with Ashley, my best friend.

Jason is training. Ever since this morning when I fudged my reason for being out of bed, he's been suspicious. His gut is telling him something is wrong. I don't want to tell him that he's right. I'm horrified that he will hate me forever when the truth comes out.

Heading downstairs, the strong smell of sweat is permeating through the air.

Grunts, and groans fill the air. Jason is laying into the heavy bag.

"Hey," I say, loud enough to get his attention.

He stopping beating on the bag, but doesn't face me. Something is bothering him. "Hey," he whispers.

"What's wrong?"

Dropping his hands, he pressed his forehead to the bag. "I feel like you're hiding something."

My heart shattered, did he already know? "What would I be hiding?"

"I don't know. You tell me."

He folded his arms over his chest, with a look in his eyes of anger and despair. Walking towards him, I was deathly afraid of the consequences of my actions. I didn't want to lie to him.

The truth came out.

"My brother, Trevor, is alive."
