Chapter 20
The Alpha's Little Mate
Mom rushed towards her son, but I stood in front of her. "Get out of my way, Dakota!"
"Mom, wait! Let me explain--"
"You knew about this?" Her voice quivered. Shaking my head, I dropped my eyes, not wanting to look at her. A sharp pain hit across my cheek.
"Karin!" my Father bellowed.
Jason growled behind me. Moving my back towards him, he needed to stand down. "Let me explain, Mom."
"How dare you keep this from me? How long have you known about this?"
Trevor spoke up for me. "Mom, I know how this looks. I made her keep the secret."
Covering her mouth, she held a sob. "Trevor, how could you?"
"Mom--" slapping me again, I could feel the anger radiating off her.
"Enough, Mom!" Trevor yelled.
Stepping back, my parents were shocked at how he spoke to them. Checking my face, Trevor gave me a soft smile as if to say he was sorry.
Looking back to Jason, I could see his Alpha anger flaring off him. "Calm, down, Jase. Please." Rubbing his arms, his body softened at my touch. "You have to invite Trevor into the house."
"And my friend, Kyle," Trevor added.
Coming forward, Kyle bowed in respect to Jason, and I. "I promise I intend no harm towards you, or your pack. If you deem me unsuitable, I'll wait out here--"
"Stop," I started. Lifting him by his arms, I could see scars on his neck, and shoulders. His eyes remained trained on the ground. Tilting his chin up, I could see fear in his blue eyes. "You will be welcome into our home." A smile came across his pale skinned face. Turning my attention back to my family, my mother couldn't bring herself to look at me. My father wasn't sure how to feel; I could see the conflict in his features. "Jason, as Alpha of this pack, you must be the one to invite them in."
Nodding at me, Jason knew how important this was to me. "I, Jason Morgan, of the Black Forest Pack, do invite you, Trevor Mayfield and Kyle--"
"Howard"
"Kyle Howard, into our home."
Extending his hand, Trevor looked to Jason. "Thank you for inviting us into your home. Also, thank you for taking care of my sister."
Reaching for my phone, I looked to them both. "I'm going to call Devon."
Walking past both my parents, I could feel their stares on me. How was I going to tell Devon that his big brother was back? As it is, my parents are beyond furious at me for not telling them that Trevor was alive. It's not like I had been keeping this secret for years; he just presented himself to me a few weeks ago. Deep breath.
"Dakota," my father's voice sounded.
"Dad."
He stalked toward me. "You had better tell me the truth this minute. How long have you known that Trevor was alive?"
His Alpha tone made me flinch. "I swear to you, Dad. I've only known for a couple weeks. He begged me not to say anything. I wasn't about to break that promise to him." Squarely looking him in the eye, he knew I was being truthful.
Cupping my cheek, my father let a lone tear fall from his eye. Kissing my forehead, he took my phone from me. "I'll call your brother. See to your mother."
Dad took my phone and went into the living room. Coming back to my mother, she was walking into the house, with Jason in front, and Trevor next to her. Kyle was in tow.
"Mom," I whispered.
Glaring at me, her eyes were puffy from crying. "I'm so angry with you, but I know why you did what you did." Though she was angry, she pulled me close for a hug. "You were protecting your brother."
Jason voice came over all of us. "Maybe we should go into my office."
"Devon is on his way," my father cut in.
"I'm going to wake up Ronnie," Mom said.
The four of us walked to Jason's office. Taking his seat, I stood next to my mate. Kyle stood behind Trevor. "So tell us, what happened? Why are you here?"
Trevor took a moment to collect his thoughts before he spoke. "I'm sure Dakota has told you what happened to me, us twelve years ago." Jason nodded. "There's more, much more." Listening intently, I can't even imagine what Trevor was going to tell us. "I'm sure you both know Drake Bacchus," he started, and Jason's let out a loud grumble, "he's the Alpha of my back, The Blood Pack." Trevor and Kyle both started shifting around.
"Trevor, you're the son of an Alpha. How is it that you have fangs like a vampire?" Jason question came out with slight venom. Gently squeezing his shoulder, I could feel his muscles all tensed up.
"Growing up, I always wondered if there were things like hybrids. Despite my research, I never found any substantiating evidence that suggests hybrids exist. It pains me to say this, but I am the first vampire werewolf hybrid."
"And you?" Jason asked, looking to Kyle.
"I'm just a vampire, Alpha."
Confusion hit us both. "So wait, werewolves and vampires coexisting in the same pack?" I broke the silence. Never before had something so absurd been heard of.
"There's more." Dropping his head to his hands, he shifted uncomfortably again. "Jason, I'm not sure if you've heard of a vampire named Blaine, but he is the reason that attack happened years ago. Drake allows him to use the werewolves among the pack for his bidding. Mind you, they are rogue by nature, but they will always follow his order." Jason's fists were balled up on his chair arms. His eyes wild, his breath hitched. Clearly, he knew exactly who this vampire was. "He has his sights set on Dakota."
"Trevor."
Another male voice broke us from the conversation.
Standing up, Trevor knew full well who that voice belonged to. Facing his brothers, they had no idea what to do. "Hi Devon, Ronnie." Ronnie stayed back by my parents, he didn't really remember Trevor since he was so young when he died.
Devon walked up to his now alive brother, tears in his eyes. "You-you're alive." Those were the only words he could muster. Throwing his arms around his older brother, I saw the love between them.
Our mother tried to keep her emotions in check, but tears free flowed down her already wet face. I couldn't help but loose a few tears myself. Seeing the reunion was an emotional toll I wasn't ready for. Jason grabbed my hand, squeezing it lovingly. "I'll let all of you talk. I'm going to call Willie, and Andrew." He looked at Kyle, and took the hint to follow.
Closing the door behind him, the entire Mayfield clan stood unsure of how to proceed. Staying back, I thought I should give them space. Folding my arms softly, I smiled at my parents and brothers.
Ronnie was apprehensive of his much older brother; he slithered his way by me. "I don't really remember him," he confessed to me.
"You were very young when he died." Putting a reassuring hand on his shoulder, he couldn't help but just stare at Trevor. "You're allowed to be nervous, and hesitant."
As though on cue, Trevor turned to the two of us. "Ronnie, I'm your brother, Trevor. I remember when you were born, and I know you were only three when I disappeared. I can understand that it's hard for you now, seeing as how you're a teenager, and in a few years you'll be having your first shift. I hope, that in the coming days, we can start from the beginning, and get to know each other."
My eyes watered seeing Trevor interact with Ronnie. I could feel Ronnie's reluctance, but he knew that Trevor wouldn't do him harm, no matter what he was. My fear was why the vampire Blaine wanted me so badly. Even with Trevor in that pack, he had no idea either. Right now, I had to focus on my family.
A loud roar roused all of us to the door.
Jason.
Running through the house, I smelled his anger. A crash upstairs led to me to our bedroom. "Jason!"
Slowly opening the door, I saw him on his knees. Phone smashed on the floor. Silence. His chest was heaving, and his head was down. "What's wrong?"
"The pack house," he started.
"What about it?"
"It was....it was destroyed!"
