Chapter 22

The Alpha's Little Mate

"I cannot believe you talked me into this," Trevor said gripping the steering wheel tighter. "This won't work."

"Yes, it will work. The only way to get to Drake, and Blaine is to play into their hands."

Shaking his head, he clasped my hand gently. "I don't like the idea of Blaine getting his slimy hands on you." Squeezing a little tighter, I flinched. "He's the one who made me, he's ruthless."

"Don't worry, Jason and everyone else know what to do. Mom and Dad are safe, and we can release the prisoners that were taken."

"I hope Kyle is up to the task," he mumbled.

As we got closer, the scent of death caught my nose. It seemed like the further we drove, the darker and darker things became around us. The air became so heavy. Fidgeting in my seat,  as I looked into the dark trees, I could see things moving. We were being watched.

"Trevor--"

"I know," he responded, without me saying anything else. "Reach into the back seat, carefully, and grab the chains." Slipping on my gloves, I grabbed the chains, placing them in my lap. "Put your hands together." Confused, I did as he said. One handed, he wrapped my wrists in chains.

"Aahh!"

Trevor looked at me with pain as he saw my skin burn beneath the chains. Naturally, I struggled against them. Tears covered my face, and before I knew it, we were in front of a house.

It was so dark, covered in vines. The smell of blood came from every angle.

"Are you ready?"

Nodding, he flitted around, dragging me out of the car. A couple wolves came out, their irises red; rogues. Sniffing the air, they knew was Trevor was bringing inside.

"And we all thought you were a traitor." one of them half-laughed.

"Is this the one?" the other snarled.

Nodding, "Yeah, where's Drake and Blaine?"

Trying to keep my eyes down as much as possible, I could smell the blood on them. Blood from my pack members. It took all my effort to keep my anger in check. Knowing full well, if I lose my temper now, then our whole plan will be destroyed.

My stomach is turning the whole time as we walk through the pack house. Snarls, growls, and screams in the distance. Vomit threatens to come out.

Stopping at a large door, Trevor knocks.

"Come," a voice says.

Opening the door, I come face to face with Drake Bacchus, and Blaine.

My blood boiled at their sight.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" Drake slithered out. "Didn't think you would bring her to us, considering she's your sister."

Trevor was silent at first, but he held his head high. "I figured why not. She means nothing to me anymore. Maybe there was a time I called her sister, but not now."

Blaine eyed him curiously. Standing up, he came over to me, grabbing a piece of my hair, bringing it to his nose, taking in my scent. "I've missed you so much, my pet." Stepping closer, his nose dragged along my neck. "You scent, just as I remembered."

"What do we do if her pack comes for her?" Drake asked.

"Dispatch them," he hissed.

Gathering my courage, I finally spoke. "I'll stay with you, on one condition."

Drake and Blaine started laughing at me. "You're in no position to bargain, little girl," Drake spat. Growling at him, I flashed my eyes. He snarled at me, lifting his lip. "Don't try me, bitch."

Blaine put his hand up to silence him. "Let her speak." Looking to me, he gently caressed my cheek. "Tell us your condition."

"You release any member of my pack that you have prisoner, and I will stay with you. No complaints."

Blaine contemplated for a moment, pondering my words. Drake immediately scoffed at me. Trevor stood unmoving. "Fine," she started, "but if any member of your pack decided to attack, deal's off." Nodding, there was an agreement between us. "Trevor, go to the cells, and release the prisoners." Acknowledging, Trevor left. "Drake, you may go."

Drake left us alone.

My skin was immediately crawling just looking at Blaine. Keeping my eyes down, I could feel his eyes on me, watching every move I made. "I've been waiting for you for a long time. I've never forgotten your beautiful scent."

I didn't respond to him, but feigned ignorance. "Hmm, you really don't know anything about yourself, do you, love?"

Cringing, it made me sick when he called me pet names. "What else is there to know? I'm a werewolf, I have a mate, and I'm Luna to the Black Forest Pack."

"Are you not a white wolf?"

Whipping my head up, I narrowed my eyes at him. How did he know that? "How did you know?"

"It's your eyes," he stated, "they have very minute silver flecks in them. As a vampire, it is much easier for me to see them, then even the average wolf."

"You still haven't told me what it even means," I growled. "What's so damn special about me?"

A chuckle left him. "You, my love, have untapped power. Enough power to destroy even your beloved mate." Puzzled, I cocked my head to the side, unsure of what he was talking about. "As a white wolf, you're able to concentrate all your power and level anything coming at you. The red in your eyes amplifies, and you become unstoppable."

Pausing, my eyes were wide. How is that possible? There's never been a wolf like that before. "You're lying," I hiss. "Why should I believe you?"

"How do you think I smelled you as a little girl? Why do you think you weren't really allowed out growing up? You don't think it was just because you chose to be a shut-in. Your parents knew about your ability, and wanted to keep you safe. It was always Trevor's job to find you when the time was right."

"So what do you want with me?"

"I want you to destroy the Black Forest Pack, and thereby murder your mate." The words rolled off his tongue as if they were nothing.

Shaking with anger, I furiously shook my head. "No! I won't do it. You'll have to kill me first!"

Tilting my chin up with his finger, I met his gaze. "Then die you will, my sweet wolf."

A howl in the distance catches our attention.

"You're dead now, motherfucker!" I spew.

~Flashback~

Devon, Jason, my parents, and myself all filed into the office. Diedre and Anthony were already waiting. Brian and Alexander had come in clad in basketball shorts.

"Who do we have at our disposal?" Jason asked Devon.

"My warriors are outside on patrol, along with your beta and third. And whomever is left of your warriors. Only a few were killed, according to Brian."

"Before we could deal anymore damage, the lot of them pulled out," Brian interjected.

"We took quite a few down before they ran," Alexander added.

"How's Erika?" I asked.

"She's still unconscious," Brian answered, tears in his eyes.

Jason zoned out to link the warriors patrolling outside.

"How are the twins?" I asked.

"They're asleep," Mom answered.

Jason came back, and chimed in.

"We all have to come up with an idea to get back our prisoners--"

"And finish off the Blood Pack," I added.

My father stepped forward, "More specifically, we have to end Drake--"

"And Blaine. He needs to be the main target." Trevor added.

Jason sat at his desk, looking over everyone in his office. "Trevor, tell me everything you know about the Blood Pack, Drake, and Blaine."

My father stepped forward again, putting his hand on Trevor's shoulder. "First, there is something else that you all have to know. Dakota, even you don't know any of this, and it all has to do with you." We all looked at my father questioningly, while my mother looked at him pleadingly. "It's time the truth came out."

"Firstly, Dakota, you should know, that the only reason we kept you from the truth was so no one else would find out. After we thought Trevor had been killed, it was clear to us, that we had to keep you safe." My Mother's eyes welled with tears. Years of holding this secret had finally taken it's toll on her.

"Spill it," I said, agitated.

Taking a deep breath, my father spilled the secret. "When you were born, your eyes had silver rings around them. That was something no one had ever seen before. Another reason why you're brother became so immersed in research. In your case, after some research, we realized that it meant you had been blessed by the Moon Goddess. Very rarely does something like that happen. After about a week, it went away, replaced with miniscule flecks. By the time you were three, unmated male wolves were sniffing around you. They said you had a scent about you that made you irresistible." He paused, collecting himself. "Trevor was always by your side, not just because he's your brother, but he was your protector. Your mother and I always worried about the day you found your mate. We hoped he would be inside our own pack." The final part Dad told all of us was disturbing. "You won't remember this, but when you were ten, you had your first shift. Entirely too early for a normal wolf. The pain you endured was awful. Your white wolf was beautiful. That's when your mother saw it--"

"Saw what?" I urged

"A white light emanated from you. Silver around your eyes." The entire room fell silent. "From the time you were little, you were able to use the light to get out of things, but it was never something you were able to control."

"That's why I was always by your side," Trevor added. "One time when I left you to train, some of the other kids thought it would be funny to tie you up; I'm not sure why. After looking for hours, you simply came running from the woods, the rope dangling from each hand. You broke the rope with your light."

"What kind of a pack did you have, Mayfield?" Jason asked, addressing my father.

"Some of the pack kids believed Dakota was a freak, she was picked on."

"Why don't I remember any of this?"

"We think you go into some sort of trance, a trance that is not even your wolf."

Even Devon looked confused. "As the Alpha of the pack, why was I never told about her ability?"

"Because Devon, we had to make sure that no one in the pack--"

"Before I was the Alpha, I'm still her brother, damn it!"

"That's enough, Devon," I calmly say.

Standing, there was smoke coming from his ears. "Why aren't you more angry about this?"

He wasn't wrong. Deep down, I was furious. My parents lied to me, kept secrets from everyone. But being angry now was not going to help us. We needed to find a way to use my gift to help everyone.

"Rather than bicker about it, I say we use it." Everyone's heads snapped to me. "They want a fight, we can give them one."

~flashforward~

Blaine turned to me, fangs baring, fury written all over his face. Immediate confusion hit him, as I stood with the chains at my feet. "H-how?" he stuttered.

"Clearly, you don't know everything about me," I mused.

'Let me out' a voice in my head said.

'As you wish' I replied.

I took a backseat in my own head to whomever else was running around my brain. Even Viola, my wolf, wasn't entirely sure who it was. All I knew was she meant me no harm, only harm to my enemies.

My eyes flashed with their silver rims, and the chains around my wrists shattered to the floor. Blaine had a look of horror on his face. "It can't be," he whispered. "Cassandra," he breathed.

In the back of my mind, I asked myself who that was.

"I wish I could say it's good to see you again, Blaine," Cassandra's voice rang in my head.

"How did I not know you were the one inhabiting this girl?"

A single chuckle left her, as she moved closer to him. "Because you were too busy helping the mutts of this pack try to take something that doesn't belong to them."

"She didn't even know you were within her--"

"By design, dear friend. The less she knew the better; it was just lucky for me that she decided to shut herself away for so long."  Howls in the distance caught my attention. "Mmm," she purred, "I can hear them coming for you."

Blaine dropped his fangs, and readied himself. "You know you can't win against me," he hissed.

"Have you forgotten I'm a goddess?" she laughed.

"Trapped inside a measly wolf--"

"She has more power than you think," she growled.

Shifting, I could see the terror in Blaine's eyes. A terror that made me more than satisfied.

Lunging, I grabbed Blaine in my teeth shaking him like a rag doll. Throwing him against a tree, I could see he was stunned momentarily. Shaking it off, he attacked again, only to be cut off by a large black wolf. Cassandra recognized him as Jason. Trevor comes to our side with Kyle. Shifting back, Jason dropped his giant paw on Blaine's throat.

"Did you get the prisoners out?" they all look at me strangely, my voice must be different.

"Everyone's out," Trevor responded, unphased.

"Drake?"

"We have him in custody with some of the other rogues. Devon is keeping an eye on them."

'Dakota,' Cassandra says, in my head.

'Who are you?' I ask.

'The Moon Goddess,' she answers. 'Better to save this conversation for another time. Go to your mate.'

Shaking my body out, I came back to myself. Going over to Jason, still in his wolf, I looked down at Blaine. "Tell me, how does it feel to lose what you've been searching for for twelve years?"

"Cassandra has made you powerful, little flower. I may die here, but it will be worth it." Jason pressed his paw further into Blaine's throat. "Get it over with," he croaked.

Right when Jason was going to oblige, I gently placed a hand on him stopping him. Looking back to Trevor and Kyle, they came jogging up. "Bring chains. We're taking him with us."

'What the hell are you thinking?' Jason bellowed through the link.

'We may need him later,' I said, softly. 'Don't worry, he'll behave himself.'

Coming back, they chained him thoroughly. "Take him in the cells."

Shifting back, Jason stood before me, looking relieved. He had a few cuts, bruises, and gashes on him but he was no worse for wear. With no words, he wrapped an arm around my shoulder, ushering out of the dark woods.

'We did good,' Viola said. 'By the way, there's something you should know.'

Confused, I wasn't sure what she was getting at, but by her tone, it wasn't something bad. I'll have to get back to her. Now it's time to be with Jason.
