Chapter 223
The Millionaire And His Billionaire Ex-Wife
Chapter 223
Grace couldnât help but be more suspicious.
While she was in a trance, Mr. Grant was still saying, ââ¦so it seems like my grandson is really
interested in you. However, Grace, you have been back for a few days. Have you two already met?
What do you think about him?â
âNo, Grandfather.â
Grace took advantage of the situation and said, âIâve been asking around and trying to contact him for a meet-up but it seems like heâs avoiding me on purpose, so Iâve never seen him.â
Mr. Grantâs expression gradually dimmed down, âReallyâ
He called for their butler, Uncle Alfred, and instructed in a deep voice. âGo and call that little brat over!
What the hell is he thinking to be hiding like this?â
âYes, sir.â
Grace couldnât stop grinning as she continued to chat with Mr. Grant over tea.
Ten minutes later, Uncle Alfred returned.
âSir, he didnât come. They say he went on a mission.â
âWithin those two days he was free, he chose this time to get busy?! Is it more important than not embarrassing his fiancee? That brat!â
Mr. Grant stomped his cane. However, he couldnât scold his unruly grandson further in front of Grace.
He softened his tone and comforted her instead. âDonât worry, Grace. Iâll make sure that kid comes even if I have to tie him up.â
Grace didnât comment and smiled cutely. âWell, Iâll listen to what you want, Grandpa.â
Mr. Grant looked at her with fondness. But when he turned to Uncle Alfred, his expression instantly darkened.
âGo tell that b astard that if he doesnât show up, he will kneel for three days and three nights until his leg breaks!â
Uncle Alfred left again.
Ten minutes later, he returned to report with a gloomy expression.
âHe said that he understood. When he returns home after his mission, he will immediately follow through his punishment.â
Mr. Grant was about to die of anger!
His grandson would actually choose punishment over his fiancee. This kid was determined to go against him!
In front of Grace, he could only swallow the impending curses he wanted to say and intensify his efforts, âTieâs not afraid of kneeling, right? Fine. Tell him that he wonât only be kneeling. He will be whipped one hundred times!â
Uncle Alfredâs expression changed instantly.
âOne hundred whips? Are you serious, sir?â
Mr. Grant knocked his cane on the ground, turned his face away, and did not answer.
The butler didnât have the heart to follow this order. âIâm sorry, sir, but we all know how stubborn Sir Eder is. If he really doesnât want to come, then heâll accept his punishment. If you say he has to be

whipped, then heâll let himself be whipped. Iâm afraid it would be fatal for him! He could dié!â
Mr. Grantâs expression changed as he lowered his head.
Grace watched their exchange hack and forth.
It sounded like this whipping thing from the Grant family wasnât simple.
A hundred lashes could actually kill a strong man like Eder from the army?
Words had already been spoken.
It wasnât fair for Mr. Grant to go back on his words, especially since he promised this in front of Grace, however, he also couldnât do that to his grandson.
The atmosphere in the room was gloomy.
Grace knew that he was only waiting for her to say something She smiled gently and said in a soft voice, âGrandfather, it sounds like this whipping punishment is really dangerous. Itâs just a banquet, anyway. You donât have to punish him.â
Mr. Grant patted her hand in relief and sighed. âWhat a tolerant and generous child. Now I feel very guilty.â
âItâs okay, Grandfather.â
The more forgiving she was, the guiltier Mr. Grant felt.
âDonât worry, Grace. Even if he doesnât come tonight, Iâll find a way for you to meet him. Iâll have him apologize to you!â
The banquet officially started.
Grace appeared on stage and gathered everyoneâs attention.
Her make-up glowed under the lights and her dress swayed with every movement she made. She was beautiful
As tonightâs event was because of her, it was natural for her to be the center of attraction
On the stage under everyoneâs eyes, she made a speech and an announcement about her return to the Smith family.
After her, Ethan took the stage and announced the news of her and Ederâs engagement which earned a large cheer from the crowd.
Because Eder was unable to come, Ethan chose to simplify this matter and quickly divert the attention of the guests.
Dinner immediately followed.
After Grace toasted with all the guests, she sat alone at an unobtrusive small table to enjoy the wine.
Adrain noticed her drinking alone and felt a little distressed. He walked over and sat down.
âGrace, you donât actually want to marry Eder, right?â
She didnât say anything and just swayed her glass with an elegant twist of her wrist.
Adrain: âLook at him, he canât even be present in such an important occasion, leaving you alone to bear everyoneâs judgements. Now alone, heâs showing signs of being an unsuitable partner. What
more in the future?
Grace laughed, âMr. Grammer, no oneâs laughing except you.â
Adrain frowned, feeling disheartened. âThatâs because Uncle Ethan managed to mitigate any
possible damage. I regret not getting my parents to propose to you first, Grace. But if you want, I can help you break this engagement off.â
âYou donât have to. I donât need your help,â Grace answered without hesitating.
âWhy? Do you really like Eder?â
Grace put down her glass and said seriously, âI donât like him, and I wonât marry him. Similarly, youâre just a friend to me. I hope you understand.â
Adrainâs face paled, and he could not say a word.
Eleven in the evening
The Smith familyâs banquet had just ended. Eric, who was wandering around the Smith familyâs land and watching the event, quickly ran to the car that had been parked two hundred meters away.
When no one was paying attention, he opened the car door and sat in.
Before he could even settle properly, the man who had been waiting inside for a long time immediately asked:
âHowâs the situation?â
Eric said, âDonât worry, Boss. You already threatened everyone to shut up in advance. Besides, Mr.
Smith already handled the announcement properly. No one was talking behind Ms. Graceâs back.â
Ederâs guilt eased a little.
âWhat about her? Was she very unhappy?â
Eric thought for a while, âI donât think so. She and Mr. Grammer chatted for a long time. They seemed to have had a good time.â
Eder pursed his lips. He looked towards the window with a pair of vacant eyes.
The lights in the car were not turned on so Eric could not see his expression, but he could feel the change in the atmosphere. It got a little cold.
He shouldnât have mentioned Adrain! Eric slapped a hand on his careless mouth angrily then changed the subject, âBoss, itâs getting late. When are you going to return to the mansion?â
Eder thought for a while. âTew minutes more.â
An hour later, Eder finally returned home.
Knowing that he had punishment due, he went straight to the ancestral hall instead of entering his
villa.
When he got there, Uncle Alfred was already standing at the door. It was obvious he had been waiting for a long time.
âSir Eder, when your grandfather came back this evening, he said that he was not feeling well. Please go and see how he is doing.â
Eder did not think much and followed Uncle Alfred.
When they reached the guest room on the second floor, Uncle Alfred suddenly stopped and gestured
to him.
Eder frowned. âThis is not Grandfatherâs room. Why did you bring me here?â
Uncle Alfred did not change his expression. âMr. Grantâs leg began to hurt while he was walking up so he simply stayed in this room since itâs closer.â

Eder did not say anything. It was obvious that he didnât believe it.
The butler looked into his eyes and emphasized, âSir, I would never joke about Mr. Grantâs health. He really is inside, so please hurry in. He might get angry if he waited for too long.â
Dubiously, Eder pushed the door open. He only took two steps inside when Uncle Alfred shoved him in from behind, closed the door, and locked it.
âUncle Alfred, open the door!â
He patted the door a few times, but there was no movement outside as if Uncle Alfred already left.
Eder could only step back in confusion. However, a womanâs familiar soft voice suddenly came from behind.
âThereâs no use. Since youâve always been avoiding me, your grandfather arranged this.â
That voiceâ¦
