Chapter 34
The Millionaire And His Billionaire Ex-Wife
Chapter 34
She felt that Grace was setting a trap for her, so she chose to ski p this question.
He continued to question her. âDirector Salen, when did you talk to Epicent Films about the cast? Why didnât I know anything about this?â
âMs. Gordan, should I inform you before doing things?â
Grace sneered. When she looked at Lucy, her eyes were cold. âBut who do you
Lucy was stunned. She didnât expect Grace to insult her in front of the entire company.
At this moment, everyoneâs eyes were fixed on her.
think you
you are?â
She bit her lip and softened her aura. With a hurt expression, she said respectfully, âIâm sorry. I thought you would discuss it with your subordinates.â
She, who was weak and timid, was confronted with the arrogance of Grace.
It was as if her superior had bullied her.
Lucy felt pleased with herself.
She thought, âYou want to fight with me?
âI am afraid you are too naive for that.â
Patric knocked on the conference table with his knuckles, looking a little unhappy. âOf course, Ms.
Salen has the right to decide. Thereâs no need to make a big deal out of it.â
âYes, Mr. Smith.â
Lucy looked embarrassed and could only sit back down sulkily.
However, Grace stared at her and continued, âBut since Ms. Gordan asked, Iâll tell you. Just yesterday morning, the person in charge of Epicent Films and I confirmed the actors.â
âWhat?â
Lucy widened her eyes.
She talked about it with Grace yesterday afternoon, but Grace had done it in the morningâ¦
Since it was settled, why did she still agree to the dinner last night?
Lucy stared at her in disbelief as if she had seen a ghost.
So she did it on purpose?
Were Mr. Wesley and Mr. Lewis both sent to prison by her?
Looking at Grace, She felt a chill run down her spine.
But after a while, she denied this idea.
How could an inexperienced little girl be so dishonest and shrewd?
Right!
It must be a coincidence!

Under the long table, Lucy clenched her long fingernails and slowly calmed down.
Since Lucy didnât make any more comments, the meeting continued.
Grace continued.
âIn terms of the overall planning, we are currently in the most crucial stage. The endorsement advertisements and specially negotiated variety shows featuring popular artists will proceed as planned.â
There was no objection.
Grace proceeded, âFurthermore, I propose an investment in a talent show, specifically targeting our trainees. Many of them are young and lack experience. I think we can invite other companies to participate in this show to form a seven-member team and broaden the h o r i z o n s of these young
artists.â
âWait, I have an objection!â
Lucy raised her hand again and said, âDirector Salen, a talent show is no small feat. This proposal might be stretching our budget. And letâs face it; the talent show industry isnât exactly booming right now. If the company ends up taking a hit because of thisâ¦â
As she spoke, she caught sight of Grace furrowing her brows and delicately fanning herself with her slender hand.
âDid you eat too much at lunch? Why does it taste so bad?â
Lucy was confused. âWhat are you talking about? I didnât overeat at all earlier.â
âNo?â Grace laughed. âThen why do you like to show off so much?â
Many employees couldnât help snickering.
The employees sitting beside Lucy subconsciously covered their noses and silently distanced themselves from her.
Lucy blushed and realized that Grace was humiliating her.
She widened her eyes and raised her voice.
âIt appears that Director Salen is quite self-centered. Why else would she be so afraid of scrutiny?
Being in the company for only a few days, itâs quite suspicious that she would propose such a significant initiative. Mr. Smith, I strongly recommend thoroughly investigating Director Salenâs actions.â
As soon as Lucy finished speaking, a loud bang resonated through the room. Patric, seated at the head of the table, forcefully slammed his coffee cup onto the table and said in a commanding tone, âI fully support this proposal.â
The crowd burst into an uproar.
They stole a glance at Grace, and their expression changed.
âSeriously? Mr. Smith, youâre endorsing my suggestion? Does that mean youâll genuinely conduct a thorough investigation into Director Salenâs actions?â she inquired with a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
Someone hissed in secret.
Everyone knew who Patric was talking to, but Lucy was a fool and didnât understand.

Patricâs face contorted with disgust as if he had swallowed a swarm of flies. With a gloomy
expression, he delivered a stern ultimatum to Lucy, âIf you dare say another word, youâre out of here right away. Donât bother showing up tomorrow.â
A wave of paleness washed over Lucyâs face. The stark contrast in Patricâs response left her so profoundly shocked that she remained frozen.
Lucy reluctantly sank back into her chair when someone seated beside her nudged her.
Subsequently, the attendees shifted their focus towards delving into the intricacies of Graceâs proposal, engaging in discussions to examine its finer details.
Lucy listened in silence, her emotions subdued. The sting of humiliation lingered, making her wish for a hiding place to escape the overwhelming sense of being publicly slapped in the face.
Jealousy suffocated her.
Why wasnât Patric interested in her?
The thought of being involved in an affair with Patric crossed Lucyâs mind, imagining how it would feel to bask in the public display of his protection and affection. Such fantasies stirred a mix of longing and envy within her.
Upon further reflection, the image of Henryâs oily face, aged over 40 with a bald head and glistening golden teeth, suddenly flashed before Lucyâs eyes.
The realization that her fate might be limited to dutifully accompanying a repulsive man like Henry filled Lucy with an intensified jealousy.
Oh, right! Henry.
Judging from how Patric treated that bitc h, there must be something wrong with Henryâs disappearance. It must have something to do with Grace.
She thought about it for a while.
The episode passed.
Without Lucy stirring up trouble, the second half of the meeting proceeded smoothly.
After Patric announced the meeting was over, he left with Alex first.
The others left the conference room one after another.
Grace packed up her things and was about to leave when the womanâs red nails suddenly pressed down the file bag on the table.
Wearing a smile, Lucy addressed Grace, âDirector Salen, I still have a few questions for you. Do you have a minute?â
-Grace didnât say anything, but she didnât refuse either.
Almost all the people in the conference room had left.
With a somber expression on her face, Lucy leaned in and asked in a hushed tone, âI need to know the truth. Why wasnât Henry present at the meeting? Where did he go? Did you have a hand in his absence?â
âHenry will never come back to the company again.â Grace looked up casually.

âWhat?â
Lucyâs eyes widened in disbelief. She tightly gripped Graceâs arm and shook it, her voice filled with urgency. âThe board of directors fired him? And you were behind it? Why d
you do such a thing?â
The previous night, Henry had confided in Lucy about their plans for dealing with Grace on this very day. However, to Lucyâs astonishment, Henry had been abruptly terminated today.
She didnât believe it!
Graceâs face contorted with disdain as she forcefully slapped Lucyâs hand away. âHe was dismissed from the company and taken to the police station due to an illicit transaction with a female employee.
Heâs facing a sentence of over ten years in prison,â she revealed with a cold and
matter-of-fact tone.
While recounting the details, Grace swiftly retrieved a wet tissue, meticulously wiping her wrist that Lucy touched and then her file bag.
Grace maintained a cordial smile as she continued, âThis information is highly confidential, and hardly anyone in the company dares to disclose it to you except me. I did so only because working together for a few days. You are welcome.â

Hearing this, Lucy stag g e r e d back in disbelief, her scalp tingling with a wave of shock. âSo, youâ¦
you actually knew everything last night? Were you intentionally playing along with my scheme?â
Grace didnât answer and walked straight to the main seat of the conference room.
As Grace took her seat, she crossed her slender legs, inadvertently revealing her exquisite figure.
Despite being slightly shorter in stature than Lucy, Grace exuded an aura of undeniable automotive.
She smiled, âIf you miss him so dearly, Lucy, why donât you go and keep him company?â
