Chapter 6

The one with the late night FaceTime.

You're my captain. (Hailee Steinfeld)

Parker stared at her phone like it was a disease, she'd been trying to get the guts to FaceTime Hailee for the past ten minutes, but everytime she picked her phone up it felt like her heart was trying to physically come up through her throat. She debated on texting Hailee apologising that she's too tired, but the talks from her dads and Christen kept on ringing through her ears. She doesn't want to end up alone when she's old and wrinkly and look back at times like this with regret.

The sound of her phone pinging with a message interrupted her trial of thought. She noticed the message app image and sort of hoped that Hailee was cancelling on her.

Hailee:

You're not ghosting me again are you🤔

Parker felt the blush rising up her face. "She's not even here." She mumbled to herself in annoyance. She stared at the message as she willed her finger to go over to the FaceTime button on Hailee's contact info. She released a breath before quickly pressing the button and removing her shaking hand, knowing it's too late to back out now, then she really will look like a creep.

"Hey stranger." Hailee's voice filtered through the phone before her video kicked in.

Parker smiled as she took in the girls face. Bare of any makeup, Parker thought she was the most beautiful girl she'd ever seen. She just wishes she got be brave enough to actually tell her that. "Hey...sorry I took so long."

Hailee smirked as she leant back on her chair. "Be honest, you were thinking about ghosting me again weren't you."

Parker let out a laugh, abruptly stopping when Hailee looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "What...no."

Hailee carried on with the same look. "Really?"

Parker's smile faltered, quickly turning into an embarrassed one. "Yeah I was." She said with a sigh. "But, it's not because I'm trying to be a dick though!" She carried on, trying not to appear like an asshole. "It's just...you make me nervous."

Hailee's gaze softened, happy that the girl is letting her guard down a bit to let her in. "How come?"

"You just..." Parker paused as she tried to get her words together. "You're just...you're so pretty, and you're so nice, and you're so confident...It's like my brain stops functioning and I panic. It's not...it's not me doing it to be a dick, I just get sorta...freaked sometimes, I guess?"

Hailee smiled at the girl. "I get that, it's okay." She paused for a beat before continuing. "You think I'm pretty, hmm?" She teased the girl.

"The prettiest." Parker's eyes widened, realising she probably answered that too quickly. "I mean-"

"Parker." Hailee stopped Parker from stumbling on. "Thank you, I think you're super super pretty too."

Parker didn't reply, too busy trying to calm her mind down and control the redness taking over her face.

"So, how's your head?" Hailee asked, deciding to take pity on the girl and change the subject, happy with the small steps of progress.

Parker tried to take a subtle deep breath, not knowing that Hailee did in fact see it. "It's okay, headache feels like it's easing a bit, I guess?"

"That bitch really nailed you." Hailee said with a frown.

"Yeah..tell my face that." Parker said with a playful grin. "I thought she'd shove me at most, not headbutt me."

Hailee nodded along as Parker talking about the tackle, explaining why it was all the girls fault anyway. She didn't have much of an interest in soccer, but she did have an interest in Parker, and whatever Parker felt passionate about, Hailee would listen and observe.

"Griffin and I really enjoyed ourselves. Your surname is Hayes, right?" Hailee asked, pausing whilst Parker nodded. "There were a lot of people in the stands wearing you jersey."

"Yeah?" Parker asked with a happy smile.

"Mmmhmm, think I might need to get one myself." Parker's eyes lit up at Hailee's statement. A girl like her wants to wear her jersey? It's something she'd usually dream about.

"Yknow...if you want, I can give you one of mine? I've washed the one I wore today...sometimes I keep them and give them to my dad...he likes to keep them, I don't know why. But only if you want...you don't have too."

Parker wasn't sure what the difference was between a store bought and a match worn one was, but she knew Parker was trying to give her something of hers, she was never going to turn that away. "I'd love that. Thank you."

Parker shrugged, trying to act calm and casual, but on the inside she was freaking out. She'd just successfully offered to give a pretty girl something and it was actually successful. "Yeah, no problem. I can like, bring it the gym next time or whatever."

"Or, maybe we could go on a run together this weekend? I normally run on the beach on Sunday's if you're free?" Hailee proposed with a teasing smile.

"Yeah, yeah or that. That works, for sure."

"Awesome. Plus I'm not sure if I'll be at the gym this week."

Parker really did try to hide her dissatisfaction. "Oh?"

"'Mmmm. I'm in the studio for a few days so I'll probably just have to work out in the basement or somewhere closer. Then I've got a birthday party to go to on Saturday." Hailee listed off absentmindedly, too busy staring at the small slither of chain visible under Parker's hoodie, just resting around the girls neck.

"Wait...is that gym not your local one? Why do you go there?" Parker asked, her gym isn't anything special, she's seen plenty of nicer ones.

Hailee shrugged and tan a hand through her hair. "This one has nicer views." Was all she said before winking at Parker's shocked face. The effect she had on the girl was quickly becoming one of her favourite things. "Hey, I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to cut this short, my manager has me up at stupidly early tomorrow."

Parker, still in shock from Hailee's confession, nodded blindly. "Yeah, of course, no problem."

"I've enjoyed talking to you, Parker. Maybe you should talk to me more often?" Hailee teased again.

"Yeah...sorry."

"Stop that." Hailee said once again. "I'll see you on Sunday, okay? I'll text you when and where. Don't be a stranger, okay?"

"Okay...see you soon." Parker watched as Hailee blew an air kiss before ending the call. She realised a deep breath before throwing herself back on the sofa, the site of Hailee's air kiss nearly killing her off.

Go. Little. Rockstar. Parker finally grew a pair! Sorta. Hailee grew a pair and Parker fed of it, but still.

Alls I'm saying, is you guys NEED to read the next chapter. Drunken confessions are made!
