The one with the drunken phonecalls.
You're my captain. (Hailee Steinfeld)
Parker's eyes snapped open when she heard her phone blaring through the quiet of her bedroom. She squeezed her eyes shut a few times in an effort to get rid of the blurred vision before picking up her phone and answering it, not really caring who's on the other end.
"Hello?" She said, noting her voice deeper than usual.
"Sorry, one second!" A voice yelled to her over music in the background.
Parker squinted and pulled her phone away from her ear, eyes widening when she found Hailee's contact up on the screen. She peaked at the time and swallowed the groan at the ridiculously early morning time.
"Hailee? It's like 3AM, are you okay?" She checked.
Hailee didn't respond for a few moments but Parker could hear she was on the other end still, she could hear shuffling and music in the background which was getting fainter and fainter every second. "Hi! Sorry, you answered quicker than I thought."
Parker was silent for a beat before continuing, her brain not fully awake yet. "Oh, okay. Are you okay?"
"Mmm, I'm good baby, are you okay?"
Parker felt her mouth open and close, but no words came out. "Uhhh, uhm," she took a deep breath to compose herself, grateful that Hailee is allowing her time to recover. "Uhm, yeah. Are you drunk?"
"Like, a teeny tiny bit." Hailee replied, lifting her hands up and narrowing her fingers to show how little drunk she is, not remembering that Parker can't see her. "I've spent a lot of my night doing shots with my friend Flo and her new boo."
"Oh, sounds fun." Parker said as she tried to keep a yawn at bay.
"Mmm, it is. It'd be better if I had someone next to me too, though."
Parker bit her lip, unsure how to respond. "I mean, is there nobody there that you can drink with?"
"I don't want someone here."
"Uhm, can you text someone to come with you?"
"I could, but I don't want that either."
Parker took a second. "I don't...I don't know then, sorry."
Hailee let out a laugh. "Parker, I'm talking about you. I wish you were here...with me."
Parker's heart felt like it was going to fall out of her ass. "Oh! Uhm, I mean, I could have come...but I wasn't invited."
"Because you wouldn't have said yes!" Hailee replied with a pout, again not grasping that Parker couldn't see her. "And I know new people make you uncomfortable, and there's hundreds here."
"I would have done it for you."Parker replied in a whispered voice, hoping that Hailee is at a level of drunk where she won't remember this conversation.
"Mmm, I know. But that would mean sharing you, and I don't wanna share you with everyone. I'm only just getting your attention now!" Hailee said with a laugh, placing her hand on her stomach where she can feel the butterflies fluttering.
"Hail, you have all of my attention." Parker carried on whispering, hoping her words come out easier if she is quiet.
"Oh yeah? Maybe next time you could come with me, then." Both girls paused, one trying to contain her excitement at the others words, the other trying to calm her nerves down enough to form more coherent sentences. "Can I tell you a secret?" Hailee asked.
"Mmhmm."
"I don't wanna go running with you on Sunday."
Parker felt her body drop, her stomach sank and her heart became disheartened. "Oh...that's okay."
"I wanna get coffee or something with you. Or breakfast. Or lunch. I just wanna spend some time with you."
"Really?" Parker said in shock.
"Yes! Parker you're so cute, but you're so blind. I like you, can't you tell?"
"Uhm, I mean-"
"Parker I literally go to that gym, purely to see you. It's not even my local gym, in fact it's completely out my way. But you go there, and I needed to see you again. I don't know a thing about soccer, but I sat through the whole damn game to see you play."
Parker didn't have words. Christen was right. She has this incredible girl quite literally chasing after her, and she's gave her virtually nothing back. "Oh...I didn't- I didn't think."
"God, I don't know if I wanna push you off a bridge or kiss you, I swear." Hailee said in between breathy laugh.
"Can I chose?" Parker replied without thinking.
"You can, but will you?"
Hailee had parker stumped with that one. The older girl was basically putting the ball in her court. Saying she can chose what happens, but will she woman up long enough to actually take the chance.
"Yes." Parker replied with all the confidence she can muster together
"Uh-huh?"
Parker took a breath and ignored every thought of doubt she had in her head, she ignored every feeling of self doubt or that she wasn't good enough. "Yes. Uhm, Sunday...let's get lunch."
Hailee paused for a moment, unable to contain the smile on her face. "Parker Hayes, are you asking me out?" She decided to make the tall girl sweat just a little longer.
"Yeah...I am."
"I'd love too." She finally agrees.
Parker let's put a breath of relief before she does a small fist pump. "Great! I mean...cool, I'll erm, I'll text you tomorrow and give you the details?"
"You better."
"I will.
"Okay, I'm looking forward to it, baby. I'll speak to you tomorrow, go back to sleep!"
Parker smiled at the nickname being used again. "Okay, you...make sure you drink lots of water. Oh! And text me when you're home...so I know you're safe?"
"Promise. Sweet dreams, Parker." Hailee whispered before she hung up. She doesn't know when it happened, but she's became completely infatuated by the girl. She's completely the object of her affection. She knows tonight was a massive deal to her, actually stepping up and saying what she wants, and she's so unbelievably proud of her. She knows that any future with the girl would have many more of these moments, many more times where she would have to be patient to get what she wants, to get Parker to admit her feelings. And she's willing to give her the time. They say good things come to those who wait, and that's exactly what she plans to do.
So I was reading the demographic thing of this story, and there are some YOUNG people reading this. I've already marked it as mature twice already but it keeps on knocking it off. But in case you find your way to this and you are a child, you probably shouldn't be reading this. There is gonna be serious smut in this story. If you've read She's Got Me Twisted you'll know what I'm talking about ð But yeah, you really really shouldn't. Ok. There we go, I've done my job as a responsible adult.
