Chapter 3

Chapter Three.

Until You.

It was almost an hour past midnight, and Calla was still in my dorm. His mouth didn’t slow one bit, but neither did Rova’s. It was funny how their friendship worked. They both spoke a thousand words per second, their minds ran at ridiculous speeds. I hate to admit that it was entertaining to watch, their conversations were like witnessing  mind reading.

For example, this is the conversation they were having a second ago, before both of their ADHD brains rambled onto something else.

“Best PIXAR movie?” Rova challenged.

“Cars, easy.” Calla said nonchalantly.

“No way! I was thinking the same thing! Wait no- Cars is a Disney movie.”

“No it’s not.”

“Pixar is the company that owns the UP movie and stuff, not Cars.”

“No, Up is owned by Disney too.”

“What? No- wait, doesn't Disney own Pixar?”

“What? Since when?”

“I don’t know.”

“Wait, what is the best Cars movie?”

“Cars 2. Easy.”

“No way, the first one is the best.”

“What? No- that doesn’t even make sense.”

“Literally how- I’m telling you man, Cars 1 is superior.”

Rova rolled his eyes. “Okay, Lexie, my boy. Which one is the best?”

I paused. “I’ve got bad news guys.”

They both froze. “No- don’t tell us…”

I smiled, they showed faces of horror. “YOU HAVEN’T FUCKING SEEN CARS?”

And now, they are both playing a game to see who finds Calla’s laptop first, so they can force me to watch Cars, a movie owned by Disney.

It was 1 in the morning now, Calla and Rova were playing Go-Fish on a desk and had given up trying to find the laptop, and I sat on the fire escape outside.

I consider myself lucky, being in the dorm with the fire escape.

“Lexie- what are you doing out there? Come inside.” I heard Rova call from the other room.

I smiled slightly, snickering at the boy’s persistence.

I stood up and walked inside, sitting on the bed next to the desk as the two played cards.

“You should play with us.” Calla suggested.

I shook my head. “Cards are boring.”

Rova scoffed. “Not as boring as you.”

A ring of a phone interrupted our bickering conversation.

Calla picked up his phone and slid ‘answer.’

“Jayden! My boy-” Calla began but was cut off by the other line.

I couldn’t hear what the boy on the other line was saying, but I could hear that he was freaking out.

“Whoa- whoa wait, slow down.” Calla said in a calming voice, the other line did not take his advice.

Rova held a sad look on his face.

“Okay, I’ll be right there. Is it okay if I take you back to Rova’s dorm?” He asked.

I couldn’t hear the response.

Eventually, Calla hung up and stood from his seat.

“I have to go get Jayden.”

“It happened again?” Rova asked.

Calla just nodded.

“Wait what happened?” I asked, suddenly curious.

Calla looked over to me. “I don’t think I can tell you. Jayden doesn’t even know you yet.”

I nodded.

I understood. I don’t tell anyone my problems, and if strangers knew about them then I would feel all types of ways. Angry, embarrassed, ashamed…

Calla hurried out of the dorm, leaving me and Rova in comfortable silence.

“He’ll be back soon with Jayden.” Rova confirmed, standing and going into the bathroom.

He pulled out a first aid kit, and a couple other cleaning and repairing products.

He then grabbed some water and some pills from the cabinet.

Rova sat at the desk waiting for them to return.

A few moments later, the front door opened and shut loudly. Rova jumped up, hurrying to greet the two.

“That was faster than last time.” Rova commented.

Calla nodded, and the other boy laughed.

The stranger’s arm was around Call’s shoulder for support so he could walk. The boy’s head was hung low and hair looked soaking wet.

Rova guided the boy into a chair, helping his head back so he could see any injuries.

“Oh by the way Jayden, this is Alex. Alex, this is Jayden.” Calla said, I continued sitting on the edge of the bed, watching the scene unfold.

Jayden’s eyes shifted to mine, he looked me up and down and then looked away.

Jayden had a very visible black circle around his right eye, and a long cut along his eyebrow.

His lip was bleeding violently and his forehead carried a large gash.

But other than that, he was…pretty. Until he furrowed his eyebrows. Wait- no when he does that, he’s hot.

His dark hair had the perfect wave, and his dark piercing green eyes carried a certain level of mystery. I couldn’t read anything about him. His body language and face was sort of..peaceful but his bleeding knuckles and face was anything but.

I didn’t understand it, but I liked it.

It intrigued me.

He sucked in air everytime Rova would run a rag along his bloody injuries, obviously in pain.

“You gotta stop doing this shit, man.” Calla mumbled.

Jayden smiled, “But it’s so fun.” He mumbled. It sent shivers down my spine. His voice just.. Felt different to hear. The English accent sounded crisp on his words. The rasp in his voice kept me on an edge. Which type of edge? Good fucking question, maybe multiple…

Wait.

What the fuck am I even thinking about?

“No it’s not Jayden. It’s not fucking fun. It wasn’t fucking fun today, or last week, or every since you started it.” Calla argued.

The fuck are they talking about?

I suppose the confusion was obvious on my face. Rova interrupted my curiosity by saying, “He fights. Like- fist fights in the streets for money.”

Calla groaned.

Jayden slowly looked over to Rova. “You’ve never been able to keep your loud fucking mouth shut once in your life, hm?” He spat.

Calla swatted Jayden in the head. “Hey, be nice. Rova is cleaning your dumbass cuts in his own dorm, don’t be an ass. And, Lexie deserves to know if you're gonna bring this shit in his dorm on his first day.” He explained, his English accent becoming more noticeable in anger.

“Sorry, Rova. Y’know I love ya.” He said with a charming smile, Rova nodded.

Then he looked at me. His beautiful green eyes met my brown ones. I’ve always hated my eyes, but the way Jayden looks straight into them makes me feel like they’re special.

Jayden smiled. “Kid from the States, right? Everybody’s been waiting for you.”

I nodded slowly.

“You don’t talk much?” He asked.

I shrugged.

Rova laughed. “No, he was talking just fine earlier. You just have a talent for making everyone so uncomfortable that they shut up.”

Calla snickered while Jayden just mumbled a ‘fuck you.’

Jayden soon limped off to his own dorm, Calla soon following.

Rova said his goodnights and settled into his room as I did the same on my own.

Except I didn’t sleep, like usual.
