Chapter 39
Changing only for her (Sophie and Tristan)
Chapter 39 Wait For You To Understand Me
Alas, Sophieâs following actions merely served to increase Winterâs fury.
The final ball soon rolled into the hole. Winter had lost the game without even getting a chance to play.
Seeing that, Charles, Felix, and Sean could barely hide their shock.
Is this her first time playing this game? Sheâs too good!
Ysabelle flung her arms around Sophie.
âOh, that was amazing. Soph, youâre my idol!â
Tristan scoffed. âShe has a great teacher, thatâs why.â
âMr. Tristan, youâre indeed amazing. I canât believe you taught her this well in a short time!â
What are they talking about? No wonder Mr. Tristan treats her differently. Sheâs indeed different from
what I expected.
Winterâs expression turned dark when she heard everyone lavishing praises on Sophie.
âItâs getting late. Iâll give them a ride home. You can continue with the game.â Tristan spoke up.
Sophie and Ysabelle were both twelfth-grade students, so they couldnât stay up late.
âIâm taking my leave, too. Mr. Tristan, I didnât drive here. Can you give me a ride home?â Winter asked.
Tristan was leaving, so there was no reason for her to stay behind. The new perfume was about to be
released soon, so she was pretty busy with work.
âItâs not convenient,â Tristan rejected her without hesitation.
Winter nearly popped a vein in frustration. Isnât it obvious that I have a crush on him? Canât he see it?
How could he be this heartless?
âCharles, sheâs your sister. You brought her here, so take her back home yourself.â
âMm. Iâll do that.â
âIâll give Ysabelle a ride home. Her house is right beside mine, anyway,â Felix offered.
âSure. Uncle Tristan, make sure Sophie gets home safely, all right?â Ysabelle implored.
âLetâs go. No one will be stupid enough to dare to harm her if sheâs with Mr. Tristan.â Felix dragged her
out.
Winter wasnât about to give up just yet, but Charles didnât give her any chance and pulled her away.
âCharles, why did you drag me out? I can walk myself!â she huffed angrily.
Charles sighed.
âWinter, youâre my sister. I know youâre smart, and our family has always been proud of you. However,
you have to remember you canât win someone elseâs love just because youâre smart. Tristan doesnât
love you. No matter how much you work hard, he wonât notice you. In fact, if you werenât my sister, you
wouldnât even get to be in the same room as him.â
How does someone as smart as her become a fool when in love?
âCharles, I donât want to hear that. I want nothing more than to be with him. Youâll help me, right?â
Winter whined. Iâm the daughter of the Quigley family, and Charles is a good friend of Mr. Tristan.
Everything is in my favor, so I canât give up just yet!
âBe good. I can help you elsewhere, but this is beyond my capabilities,â Charles said. He wanted
Winter to listen to his advice and give up, for her crush was fated for a bad ending. âDonât do something
that youâll regret.â
Winter hung her head low and insisted, âBut I worked hard. I can be his perfect partner!â
Charles shook his head. âWhether or not you are a suitable partner for Mr. Tristan depends on his
preference. No one else can make up his mind for him.â
Tristan was born into an influential family, so he didnât need a wife to elevate his status.
All he wanted was a woman who he loved.
Tristan drank that night, so he didnât drive. His driver was already waiting outside.
After spotting them, the driver got out of the car and opened the door for them.
Tristan gestured for Sophie to enter the car before him.
The driver then closed the door and returned to the driverâs seat.
He didnât need any orders, for he already knew where they were headed.
âMr. Tristan, are you all right?â Sophie asked. He seems pretty downcast today.
âIâm fine. My headâs throbbing a bit, thatâs all.â
âThen ask the driver to give you a ride home first.â She didnât mind going home a bit later.
Tristan leaned on her shoulder and shut his eyes.
âIâm fine. I think I drank too much tonight,â he responded.
Sophie stiffened the moment his head landed on her shoulder.
The man implored, âLet me lean on you for a bit.â
Can I say no? Obviously not, since heâs already leaning on me.
When the car rolled to a stop at the underground parking at Wisteria Apartments, the driver didnât wake
them up. He left them alone and went out to smoke. As he didnât know whether Tristan wanted to stay
here, he decided to wait till Tristan woke up.
Sophie didnât wake Tristan up either. She remained in her seat and allowed him to rest.
âWeâve arrived?â
Tristanâs eyes snapped open, and the first thing he noticed was her attractive eyes.
Reaching out, he caressed her cheek.
âItâll be great if you can be this good at all times,â he lamented with a chuckle.
Tristan had always been indifferent to others. However, the sight of his warm smile caused Sophieâs
heart to soften.
âIâve always been good,â Sophie retorted. She would only attack those who provoked her. If someone
had the guts to invoke her wrath, she would definitely teach that someone a lesson without holding
back.
âDo you need help with Tanner Group?â As of now, Tanner Group was no longer a threat in Jipsdale.
âNo need. I can handle it myself.â She had to do this herself to savor the joy of accomplishment.
âMm. Be careful. Donât hurt yourself.â He wouldnât allow anyone to lay a hand on her.
âDonât worry. Iâm not that weak.â Tanner Group was about to hold its annual board meeting soon. As
one of the directors, Sophie thought she should show her presence at the meeting. Otherwise, they
would think she was no longer alive.
âDo whatever you like. Donât worry.â She can do anything she likes with Tanner Group.
âMm.â Sophie nodded. Willow wants Tanner Group for herself, so Iâll take it from her.
Tristan sat up.
âYou donât have to see me off. Wisteria Apartments is perfectly safe,â Sophie said.
He was feeling unwell and should head back home to rest.
âLetâs go.â Tristan pretended not to understand her rejection. As he was already here, he would have to
send her to the door of her house safely. Perhaps he wanted to spend a few more minutes with her.
âWhy donât you spend the night here instead of going home?â she suggested.
âWhat?â
Sophie explained, âDonât take me wrongly. This is your home, and Iâm staying here temporarily. You
have your own room here, too.â
âThereâs no need to explain anything.â
âI didnât mean anything else,â she insisted. After all, she wasnât an easy woman.
âA young ladyâs reputation is important. I donât want others to slander you,â Tristan told her.
Sophie isnât afraid of me, but Iâm afraid I might do something to her. She can affect me greatly. If I
spend the night with her, I might lose control over myself. I respect her too much to tarnish her
reputation.
Tristan accompanied her to the door and watched as she entered the house before leaving.
âMr. Tristan, thanks.â
Tristan turned at his shoulder. Suddenly, he had the urge to stay behind.
He gave her a gentle hug.
âDonât thank me. I donât need your gratitude.â
âWhat do you want?â Sophie lifted her head to look at him. She had nothing but gratitude to offer him.
Tristan pressed a kiss to her forehead.
âIâll wait for you to grow up and understand me.â
She was still too young, and her life was full of possibilities. He was willing to give her more time to get
what she wanted before getting together with him.
