Chapter 403
In Love, Never Say Never Novel
He replied, âThe signing ceremony. What is it?â
Worried that I was disturbing, I murmured, âNothing, just calling for no particular reason. Iâll call you back later.â
Before I ended the call, he added, âItâs no problem at all. Go ahead, Iâm listening.â
âCan you get me a new set of clothes? Iâm going out to meet a friend.â
âSure,â he answered before hesitating a moment. âWho are you going out with?â
âSomeone I met on the plane. You donât know her but donât worry. I will be careful.â
After a brief silence, he replied, âAlright, remember to drop me a message when you go out. Also, send me the address so that I can pick you up.â
I grunted in acknowledgment and ended the call.
Not long after, someone knocked on the room door. It was Joseph.
His expression was as icy as usual. When he saw me open the door, he explained, âMrs. Fuller, Mr. Fuller had me bring these clothes for you.â
I nodded and received them. âThank you!â
He left after acknowledging my thanks.
Back in the room, I got myself changed.
Soon, Camelia gave me a call, informing me that she was in the hotel lobby.
Once I was ready, I headed downstairs where I was stunned to see a black Bentley parked at the hotel entrance.
As the window went down, I saw Marcus coldly looking in my direction.
Feeling familiar and distant at the same time, I wondered if he was the same Marcus that I knew.
âScarlett!â Camelia who was sitting at the front passenger seat called out. âQuick, get in!â
After regaining my senses, I got into the car.
âWhat were you spacing out for? You didnât respond to my repeated calls.â Camelia turned to the man beside her and introduced, âThis is my fiancé, Marcus White. On my way to see you, he coincidentally finished work. I hope you donât mind him joining us?â
Still gaping from the shock just now, I shook my head. âNo⦠Not at all.â
The moment I saw Marcus, I suppressed the burning questions I had as Camelia was present.
At the restaurant.
Camelia seemed to be in a good mood. She held Marcusâ hand and suggested, âMarcus, why donât you order? I always enjoy whatever you choose.â
Marcus plainly grunted and raised his eyebrow at me. âMs. Stovall, what would you like to have?â
âIâm fine with anything,â I replied. Faced with someone I thought was dead and watching him act as if nothing happened, I couldnât even begin to describe what I was feeling.
Throughout the dinner, Camelia had a lot to say. However, Marcusâ responses always lacked enthusiasm. As I didnât have much of an appetite, I hardly touched the food.
âDonât you like the food, Ms. Stovall?â Marcus asked in a distant tone.
Surprised, I shook my head at him. âOh no, I just had dinner at the hotel before I came, thatâs all.â
Raising his eyebrows, Marcus pointed out the elephant in the room. âMs. Stovall, you seem to be afraid of me.â
Stunned, I exchanged glances with him before I shook my head. âNo, Mr. Whiteâ¦â
âThatâs right. I noticed it too, Scarlett. When you saw Marcus, your face lost all color. Whatâs wrong?â Camelia asked inquisitively.
Wonât you also be afraid to see someone rise from the dead in front of you?
Suppressing my emotions, I shook my head. âItâs not that. Iâm just feeling under the weather. Why donât both of you go ahead? Iâll take my leave first.â
Just as I spoke, I stood up and prepared to go.
However, Marcus blocked my way. He was a whole head taller than me. As his gaze deepened, he gave Camelia a sullen look. âCamelia, go and get the bill. Iâll escort Ms. Stovall out.â
Slightly stunned, Camelia nodded and complied.
Pursing my lips, I sidestepped him and headed for the exit. He followed me from behind without saying a word.
Outside the restaurant, I raised my hand to hail a cab while he stood beside me in silence.
Suddenly, my phone rang. When I answered, I realized it was Ashton. âWhere are you? Are you coming back? Iâll come to pick you up.â
âI-I will be back in a short while. You donât have to come.â I wasnât sure how Ashton would react if he saw Marcus, hence I chose to lie to him.
The voice over the line fell silent. âAlright, Iâll wait for you at the hotel.â
After ending the call, I stared at the oncoming cars with only a single thought in mindâreturn to the hotel as soon as possible.
âItâs not easy to get a cab here. Why donât I give you a lift?â Marcus finally spoke after a long silence.
âNo, thank you.â
âHuh,â Marcus sneered. âScarlett, this isnât like youâto ask no questions.â
I pursed my lips. âMr. White, lying is the worst of all sins between men.â
âLying?â He scoffed, âSince when did I lie to you?â
I didnât reply. When the cab arrived, I got in and gave the driver my hotelâs address.
