Chapter 188
When Love Breaks by jack
âSeriously, after all the drama, it turns out Bryantâs just looking out for his
stepmom number two?â
âCompared to him,â I pursed my lips, âIâm more curious about how Teresa
would react if she found out the truth.â
There she was at the hospital today, fiercely defending Margaret. I couldnât
imagine her finding out that her beloved daughter, Margaret, had sneaked into
her husbandâs bed while she was out cold in the hospital bed all these years.
The showdown between mother and daughter would be quite the spectacle.
Christine glanced at me. âWhat are you thinking? You seem like youâre up to
no good.â
I smirked, âJust wondering when weâll catch them making love.â
Christine raised an eyebrow. âDidnât peg you as someone who liked drama,
Jane.â
âOut of necessity.â
I thought, âMargaret, Iâll nail it this time.â
The bar was coming to life, with loud music assaulting our eardrums and
couples gyrating on the dance floor, stepping into a world of weird wonders.

We were about to book a private booth as usual when Christine tugged at my
sleeve. âLetâs sit outside. Itâs livelier.â
âSure.â I knew she had grown accustomed to hanging out with Steven and his
lively friends over these years.
We found ourselves a booth and settled in, Christine curling up on the leather
sofa, pouring us a drink.
Out of nowhere, Christine started, âJane, when you and Bryant filed for
divorce, how did you feel?â
I was stunned, my fingers tightening around the glass. âA mix of sadness and
relief.â
Iâd got complicated feelings.
Christineâs eyes met mine as she sipped her drink. âWhich was it more,
sadness or relief?â
Christine probed, âAnd now?â
âIâm getting better.â I smiled, refilling my glass, âIâm learning to stop loving
him.â
Once I completely stopped, there wouldnât be any sadness or relief.
Curiously, she asked, âWhat?â
I answered, âHaving no relationship at all.â
Suddenly, a large hand landed on my shoulder from behind, a deep voice
inquiring, âWhatâs this about having no relationship?â
