Chapter 189
When Love Breaks by jack
When I turned, I saw glistening eyes that surprised me, causing my hand to
flutter to my chest. âMark, you scared me!â
âSorry about that,â he said with a smile that could light up the darkest room.
âWasnât trying to eavesdrop. Just happened to walk by.â
I waved it off with an easy laugh. âHere to socialize or hang out with friends?â
âFriends,â Mark replied, his voice soft. When he glanced toward Christine,
there was a hint of resignation in his eyes. It didnât take me long to catch on
who he was referring to.
Catching the drift, Christine interrupted, âYou two chat. Iâm off to dance.â
She entered the bar and shed her coat, revealing a sleek black silk slip dress
that flattered her elegant collarbones. She was turning heads the moment she
hit the dance floor. And boy, did she know how to capture an audience with
her moves.
I settled down with Mark, curiosity getting the better of me. âHowâs your
injury? Youâre not supposed to drink, right?â
âItâs nothing serious. Looks worse than it is,â Mark shrugged. âIâm not drinking.
Just drowning Stevenâs sorrows for him.â

Glancing at Christine, who was the life of the dance floor then, I couldnât help
but chuckle. âSeems like weâre all escaping in our ways.â
Our conversation was abruptly interrupted by a commotion coming from the
direction of the dance floor. A fight had broken out!
Mark and I turned to see what was happening, and to our shock, it was
Steven.
He was visibly drunk, pinning another man down and landing punch after
punch, all the while shouting at Christine, âWhat the hell do you think youâre
doing touching her? Who the hell do you think you are to touch her?â
âSteven, are you out of your mind?â Christine was livid, pulling him up
forcefully. âWhatâs it to you who I dance with?â
Caught off guard by her question, Steven retorted defiantly, âYou just canât!â
With a scoff, Christine shot back. âSince when do you get a say in who I
dance with?â
âRest assured,â Christine replied with disdain. âIt wonât be long before Iâm in
bed with someone else, doing everything we did. Everything!â
I knew her well. Despite her bold words, she hadnât been with anyone before
Steven. It was merely a threat.
âAnd what about you?â Christine asked, her gaze piercing. âSteven, can you
promise to stay faithful to me while youâre married to another woman?â
âI can! I swear I wonât touch her!â Steven vowed dramatically, tears streaming
down his face.
