Chapter 214
When Love Breaks by jack
Chapter 214
âOkay.â I nodded thoughtfully, a sly smile on my face as I posed a wicked question, âAnd what if she, say, decided to swipe something of yours?â
When the words left my mouth, I saw Teresa was still in the dark, but Margaretâs guilt was palpable.
Her face went pale, panic hidden beneath a veneer of anger. âJane, what are you playing at? Are you trying to drive a wedge between me and my mom on top of eyeing Bry?â
âMom, letâs go!â She said, hastily grabbing Teresaâs arm, desperate to leave before I could spill more.
Teresa wouldnât have it, shielding Margaret behind her, standing tall with disdain and contempt in her eyes. âMargaretâs right. Donât ever try to sour the bond between my daughter and me. I get it. You grew up without parents. Even though Albert and I remarried, he didnât love Margaret any less. Sheâs always had a warm, loving home. Deep down, you must be envious of Margaret, being an orphan and all.â
âHmm, perhaps.â I nodded, noncommittal, my voice laden with meaning. âAlbert indeed adores Margaret.â
As I spoke, my gaze leisurely turned to Margaret, a small smile on my lips, âWouldnât you agree?â
Her pupils shrunk, her hands trembling as she clung to Teresa, and she blurted out, âMom, I havenât even had lunch yet, having a bit of hypoglycemia. Letâs not waste more time here with her. Letâs go.â
âAlright.â Hearing Margaret feeling unwell, Teresa relented, but not without a stern warning to me, âMs. Webster, I advise you to get the divorce finalized soon. Stop standing in the way of Bry and Margaretâs happiness! Otherwise, Albert and I wonât let you off easily!â
How terrifying.
As they turned to leave, Margaret breathing a sigh of relief, I casually called out, âHold on.â Teresa turned back, irritation visible, âWhat now? Didnât you hear my daughter is hungry?â
âIs your husband always this affectionate with Margaret?â I calmly opened up a trending topic, showing her a snapshot from a video before it got taken down and handing it to her for a glance. âTruly an eyeâopener!â
A husband she acquired through nefarious means and the daughter she bore herself, and it only took one look for her to recognize
them.
Fury flashed in her eyes as she reached for my phone, but I quickly pulled back, stepping away with a smile. âLook up the trending topic yourself.â
I certainly didnât want my phone to end up in pieces.
On the other hand, Margaret hadnât caught a glimpse of what was on my phone. Seeing Teresa in a frenzy looking for her phone, she glared at me, gritting her teeth. âJane, what did you show my mom?â
âSomething interesting.â I grinned, gesturing toward her, âYou might want to take a look, too, given youâre one of the main characters.â Watching Teresaâs expression turning cold bit by bit and her hands trembling, I felt a twisted satisfaction.
Words and photos couldnât quite hit the nerve like a video.
So, I flipped my phone, sending her the video in all its glory. âHereâs the video version for you. No need to thank me.â
