Chapter 246
When Love Breaks by jack
Chapter 246
Thinking of Cherylâs bruises, I couldnât hide my disdain. âWeâre not family soon,â I said coldly.
âWhat do you mean by that?â Allenâs eyes flickered with a cunning light, then settled on the lawyer beside me. âAnd whoâs this? Why did you bring him here?â
âHeâs Thomas, one of the top divorce lawyers in RiverCity.â After introducing them, I continued calmly. âThis marriage is ending whether you like it or not.â
Allenâs façade crumbled, and he exploded in rage, leaping up as if to strike me. But the bodyguards were quicker, restraining him in the
nick of time!
He was fuming, and his face tumed beet red. âJane, youâre so ungrateful! Marrying into the Ferguson family, you think you can treat me like this? Forcing me to divorce your aunt?â
I said coldly, âAunt Cheryl knows whether Iâm ungrateful.â
The only person who had been kind to me was Aunt Cheryl. Allen had nothing to do with it.
Gritting his teeth, Allen bellowed, âFine! Iâll divorce Cheryl! But I want half of everything Split down the middle!â
I looked at him, unimpressed. âWhat assets are you even talking about? Fine, whatever it is, Thomas will sort it out. You can be sure of that
âIâm not talking about what your aunt and I have!â he shouted.
I frowned. âThen what?â
âYour assets!â He was adamant. âThe Ferguson familyâs fortune. Youâve got your half, donât you? You give me half of all those assets, and Iâll happily sign the divorce papers.â
His shamelessness almost made me laugh. âBryant and I might be getting a divorce, but I wonât get half of the Fergusonâs assets. If you want them, go talk to Bryant.â
âReally?â He started calculating shamelessly. âThat car of yours is worth quite a bit, huh? Mr. Ferguson, being the gentleman he is, mustâve left you a house at least, and over the years, he mustâve given you plenty of jewelry. Iâve consulted a lawyer, and they are all your assets. Iâm not greedy. Just give me seventy percent of those, and weâre good!â
Looking at his vile expression, I took a deep breath to quell my anger. âWho are you to demand my assets?â
Iâd never seen such a greedy and shameless person. My Aunt Cheryl was divorcing him, yet he wanted my, the nieceâs, assets. No doubt,
hed score full marks in shamelessness.
Allen glared at me, spitting venom. âIâve put up with you for years. You, not even related by blood, should be grateful!â
âAllen, any debt I owed you, Iâve paid. Forget the million before, just considering the mess with Lloyd, if it werenât for Bryant, youâd be dead by now.â My voice was icy as I continued, âAs for the rest, my blood relation is with Aunt Cheryl. She was the one who raised me⦠âBullshit!â Allenâs rage was palpable as he interrupted. âYou have no blood relation with her. Youâre not even a real Websterâ¦â
âAllen!â The door suddenly swung open, and Cherylâs pale face flushed with anger as she glared at Allen. âWhat nonsense are you spouting? Drunk in broad daylight?â
My mind was still reeling from Allenâs unfinished accusation, and I looked at Cheryl, bewildered. âAunt Cheryl, he said Iâm not a Webster?â
âDonât listen to his drunken rambles.â Cheryl beckoned me over, leaning against the door frame. âCome in,â
I entered, and my mind was heavy with thoughts. âOkayâ
âItâs just a heated remark. Donât take it to heart.â Cheryl observed me closely, her voice filled with care. âYou know how your parents felt about you. If you werenât a Webster, would they have risked everything for you?â
