Chapter 60
When Love Breaks by jack
Chapter 60
âIf it wasnât for your grandpa, you wouldnât have to deal with this crap.â
Christine rolled her eyes so hard I thought they might get stuck. If I hadnât grabbed her arm, sheâd have stormed back to argue some more.
Out of nowhere, it had started raining, the autumn wind chilling to the bone, making you want to hunker down.
Once we got into the car, Christine burst out, âWhy did you pull me back? Did you not hear what she said? Damn, what a load of bullshit. She mustâve been hiding when brains were
handed out!â
âI heard.â
I sighed, starting the car and slowly merging onto the road, âBryant is fickle. I just wanted to get out of there before he changes his mind.â
Arguing with Margaret is pointless,
âArenât you pissed?â she asked.
âIâm fine.â
It wasnât so much about not being angry as much as being used to it.
At this hour, RiverCityâs nightlife was just kicking off. The streets were bustling and particularly congested.
Suddenly, Christine flashed a grin, leaning in and winking at me, âFeels good, doesnât it?â
âWhat feels good?â
âSeeing her car smashed up like that, feels good, right?â
I thought about it, unable to deny the dark thoughts in my heart, âYeah, it does.â
Margaretâs identical car parked next to mine had been an eyesore.
It wasnât just about the car. It felt like she was showing off her place in Bryantâs heart.
Seeing that wreck parked outside the police station, I was worried about Christine and couldnât enjoy the moment.
But now, thinking back, it felt like a massive weight had been lifted off my chest.
âThatâs all I needed to hear.â
I
Christine looked thoroughly pleased with herself.

I couldnât help but laugh. âBut you canât handle it like this again.â
âOkay, got it.â
âDonât brush me off.â
âIâm not. You know I always listen to you.â
I was at a loss with her. When we reached her place, I softly said, âChristine, you really
canât be this reckless. Today was Bryant letting things slide. But what if he had decided to take Margaretâs side?â
âDo you think Iâm an idiot?â
Christine smirked, âThereâs always Steven, right?â
Thatâs when it hit me â Iâd completely forgotten about her and Steven!
Suddenly, it all made sense. She had her bases covered.
I was nothing in Bryantâs eyes, but Steven had been his buddy since childhood.
Even if not for me, he wouldâve let go for Stevenâs sake.
âAlright, I guess I worried for nothing.â I chuckled.
âJust focus on staying calm and taking care of yourself.â
She pointed at my belly, lifting her chin, âI wouldnât risk going to jail. Then whoâd be there for you and the little one if you got bullied, huh?â
Then, switching gears, she asked, âBut why did Bryant stand up for you.
I paused for a moment, âNot sure.â
you today?â
âDo you think heâs realized he cares for you now that heâs lost you? Suddenly found out
Youâre the one he loves?â Christine threw a soap opera Sude
âThatâs impossible.â
curveball.
I scoffed, dismissing the idea without a second thought, âHe wonât fall for me.â
âIf he didnât fall for you, how did you get pregnant?â
Christine was setting me up, and it took me a moment to catch up before I playfully glared at her, âGet out!â
On my way back to Riverview Estate, her question lingered in my mind, only to be denied time and again.
Bryant, he couldnât possibly love me.
After spending over a thousand days and nights together without a hint of affection, separation made it even less likely.

Yet, this thought shattered the moment I stepped out of the elevator and saw him standing at my door.â
Christineâs question resurfaced.
âWhy are you here?â I asked, only then noticing the black suitcase that matched his clothes, placed by his side.
Under the bright lights, Bryant stood tall, his usually distant demeanor softened, his voice deep and gentle.
âI came for you.â
I met his gaze, asking. âBut why the suitcase?â
âThought Iâd move in,â he said.
