Chapter 471: 465: Famous Prodigal Son
Finn Lewis had witnessed these phenomena a few times. Even though their sudden appearance in a dark swirl seemed much like something directly out of an old legend about space-time equipment, their reaction was different.
âIf I could say that was due to my faulty equipment, or even my own hallucinations, it all changes when I witnessed two aliens committing a murder. Then I knew, the world isnât as simple as we believe it to be.â Gregory Worthington said to Finn after shooting him a glance.
âWould these aliens be roughly between 1.2 to 1.5 meters in height, with blue skin and scales, equipped with advanced gear that could render them optically invisible, and featured big ears, with a hooked nose somewhat reminiscent of a pigâs snout?â Finn asked, somehow reminded of the picture of two aliens shown by Charles Mason, who was part of Sophia Worthingtonâs crew.
âAs expected, you do know.â Gregory reacted with a typical âI knew itâ expression, âYou are absolutely right; they even carried a peculiar piece of equipment that I believe is designed to erase human memory. In that overwhelming moment, I had to forcibly hypnotize myself to remember all of it.â
After listening to Gregoryâs description, Finn could only utter, âYou are quite something! But youâre mistaken; I have no connection with them. I am aware of their existence but I have nothing to do with them. As for my knowledge, I came to know of it from someone else who also witnessed them killing someone. So, the question is, do you want to leave this place now?â
Finn wasnât sure why Gregory was sharing all these things with him but it was clear that Gregory was a genius. Most people would already be overwhelmed by learning so many languages, let alone the Liga Stateâs indigenous language. And if that was not enough, this indolent genius was once a physicist and had even developed a revolutionary detection device before becoming a CPU architect and a computer hardware engineer. It went without saying that he was exceptionally skilled.
âOf course, what normal person would want to stay here? Do you think dealing with these lunatics is fun? Although, sometimes, their perspectives can be interesting.â Gregory shrugged nonchalantly.
Finn was speechless for a while before he finally asked, âTell me, didnât you teach the guy lingering at the hospital entrance, trying to fish with a basin?â
âHow about that? Not bad, huh? My experiment proved that even lunatics can learn a lot if approached in the right way. These patients have a remarkable level of patience that can surpass ordinary human endurance. Heâs been fishing there non-stop for two years now, but still, seems quite content doing it.â Gregory announced gleefully.
Finn gave in, âAlright, I admit, your boredom has reached unparalleled heights. Letâs go now. I assure you that I will find a suitable workplace for you.â Damn this genius and madman; no wait, this lazybones and madman have earned my utmost respect. This is badass!
âBut I have one condition.â Gregory held up a finger.
âYes, it was me. It was the first test run hence the technical issues; it consumed a lot of energy. So yes, the power output was rather large.â Gregory admitted.
âGood, you will pay for the damage.â Jack Lewis seemed satisfied and turned to Finn Lewis.
âWhy should I pay for it?â Finn almost bit off his own tongue in frustration, âWhat does it have to do with me?â
âIsnât he your employee now?â Jack Lewis asked Finn.
Finn turned to look at Gregory and after a moment of stunned silence, he finally nodded with a bitter smile and said, âFine, he is my employee. I will pay. Just send me the bill.â
âDonât worry, you wonât need to pay much. Compensating for all the burnt circuitry and transformers in the neighborhood will cover it. I will have the bill sent to your place.â said Jack Lewis, patting Finnâs shoulder.
Finn shook his head, pulled out a checkbook from his pocket, quickly wrote down a number and handed it over to Jack, âHere is a cheque of 100 million Flame Nation coins, that should suffice. Consider any extra as my donation.â
Jackâs eyes gleamed as he turned to Gregory Worthington, âWhy donât you do it a few more times?â
Finn almost collapsed, âYouâre being shameless now. Havenât I earned my money through blood, sweat, and tears?â
âHaha, I was messing around, donât take it seriously. You are indeed worthy of your title, Worldâs Richest Man.â Jack Lewis replied jestingly.
âI think you wanted to say something else. That I am easily living up to my reputation as a famous Prodigal.â Finn shot back with a roll of his eyes.
