Chapter 560: Chapter 554: Accident Continued
Finn Lewis nodded, looking up. The light in the corridor was soft, seeming to emanate from the very material it was made of. There didnât seem to be any lighting fixtures. The floor was even and smooth, while the walls had a curved structure starting from the sides and moving upwards.
The side walls were also clean, nothing visible. About thirty meters ahead, the corridor bent out of sight.
âHello, anyone there?â Finn paused before calling out.
âHello.â A gentle voice echoed in the corridor, speaking Mandarin. The sound of this voice relaxed Finn. The unknown is always the most terrifying. Since someone had responded, it meant he could communicate, especially since the person was speaking Mandarin.
âHello, who are you?â Finn inquired tentatively.
âI am the shipâs main control AI. Please call me Dido. Welcome back.â The gentle voice replied.
âWhat do you mean welcome back, Dido?â Finn was taken aback. Welcome back? Could it be that he had been here before?
âYou hold the highest authority of this spaceship. Naturally, I am welcoming you back. May I ask your name?â The AI system named Dido queried.
Finn: âWhat the hell, I hold the highest authority of this spaceship? How was I not aware of that?âThe spaceship seemed to have crashed more than 10,000 years ago. I was born just over twenty years ago and this is my first time here. There is no way I have the highest authority here.â
âYou do hold the highest authority here. There is no doubt about this. Lifespan doesnât mean everything.â Dido replied.
Finnâs mouth twitched, âDamn it. You are not a fortuneteller, you are an AI. Whatâs this about lifespan doesnât mean everything?â But Finn didnât want to argue with Dido about this. Since it stated so, then it must be so.
âYes.â Oliviaâs voice rang out.
âI detected an external signal. Should I block this signal intrusion?â Didoâs voice echoed right after.
âDonât. You two can communicate. Sheâs an auxiliary intelligence system I have outside. Actually, you two are some sort of kindred spirits.â Finn shrugged and remarked. He didnât care whether Dido could understand. He wasnât too clear about it himselfâwhether Dido was more advanced than him or not.
âCommand confirmed. I can share my information with her.â Dido determinedly responded, âI have opened the information port.â
âMy lord, I am able to connect to her database now. However, her database is extensive, I need more time to fully connect to it. This might take a few weeks.â Olivia confirmed promptly.
âCanât it be shortened? A few weeks? By then, it might all be too late. I want to know whatâs inside now.â Finn inquired.
âIâve given an upgrade solution. Itâs in our exchange system. Including the part just unlocked, the upgrade requires around 2.3 million points.â Olivia didnât beat about the bush and straightforwardly gave him the best configuration. 2.3 million points? Even though he now had more than 8 million points on his hands, it still stung to spend so many points.
However, itâs a good bargain, since it could greatly enhance Oliviaâs performance and undoubtedly be of great help to Finn. He was accustomed to Oliviaâs current performance. Now that Olivia was somewhat limited, âGo on with the exchange. Have someone install it as soon as possible. How long will it take in total?â Finn briskly asked.
âMy lord, I am afraid the replacement is likely to be delayed for some time.â Olivia played down his expectations.
âWhy?â Finn paused, then asked curiously.
âCurrently, I am able to communicate with smart robots. Upon replacement, it is unlikely Iâll be able to communicate with you from such a distance for a while, because our global communication system has not yet been universally deployed.â Olivia explained regretfully.
âBut it always worked just fine before this, how come it suddenly canât work now?â Finn was astonished. It was not a problem previously, it simply required changing the host machine. How come it canât work now?
