Chapter 672: Chapter 666 â In Charge
âWell, thank you in advance. Iâm not afraid to tell you that my pirate crew is substantial, more than 300,000, and of these, only about 70,000 to 80,000 are crew members. The rest are their families, many of whom are elderly, women, and children. We donât have a base, we live on ships and replenish supplies on planets regularly,â Jasmine Davis hesitated, then suddenly spoke.
Finn Lewis looked surprised at Jasmine. âAmong pirate crews, we could be considered a large one. However, we arenât large enough to have our very own base. Because we are pirates, everyone can attack us without repercussions. Even if we establish a base on a planet, we wouldnât be able to defend it. So, itâs better to live on the ship,â Jasmine continued on her own accord.
âSo if you run away and we all die, the ghosts of over 300,000 people will haunt you,â Jasmine Davis said, menacingly.
Finn knew exactly what she was insinuating with her threat. Though he was tempted to remind her that they survived by plundering and that their deaths would garner no sympathy, he thought about the women, children, and elderly among their ranks and sighed.
âRelax, at least I donât consider myself as heartless as those royals.â Finn waved his hand dismissively. He had always questioned the royalsâ humanity for ignoring the plight of billions and using them as a source of, what they call âlife essenceâ.
Humanity may have vanished a long time ago.
What Jasmine Davis told Finn surpassed what he had anticipated. He hadnât expected her to talk to him about this situation. After leaving the cabin for the bridge, he could still see Yuka Youngâs mockery. But, it didnât bother him.
âLetâs rendezvous with the larger ship first.â Finn couldnât think of a better plan at that moment. The authorities wouldnât care about the fates of Jasmine and her crew. If it were only one or two people, it would have been okay, but the authorities wouldnât care about the deaths of hundreds of thousands. If they were indifferent, their fate was clear and evident.
Thus, Finn was left with no choice but to stay. He had to find another solution. Contacting the authorities was fruitless. He had a headache. Jasmine Davis was clever; even though they hadnât known each other for long, she had identified Finnâs fatal weakness and knew the kind of person he was.
âWho do you think youâre talking to? Stand back and let your master speak,â Finn said mockingly, taking a step towards Jasmine Davis.
Observing that Jasmine Davis didnât have any objections, Heibear watched her intently, then turned his attention to Finn. âIt doesnât matter who I am. What matters is that youâre dead meat. Be honest, Iâve never killed a member of the royal family. Do you know how it feels?â he said with a smirk.
âIf you donât shut up, I canât guarantee that your master wonât exchange your life for something I have, I wonder how much your life is worth. One billion star credits, two billion, or is it ten billion?â Finn said with an icy stare.
Though miles apart, Heibear choked on Finnâs words, unsure of how to respond, for he knew that if Finn Lewis wanted his life, he might just get it.
âThatâs enough, step aside,â a calm voice interjected and a man appeared beside Heibear, an ordinary-looking middle-aged man. However, his voice was a familiar one to Finn; it was the voice of the auctioneer at the Blackwater Sect.
âWe meet again.â
âYes, indeed. May I ask what brings you here, sir?â Finn, touching his nose, asked.
âNot advice, I assure you. I simply need to borrow your life,â the middle-aged man remarked with a fake smile.
âMany seek my life, unfortunately, very few of them have lived long enough to take it. If I can deal with the man behind you, what makes you think you stand a chance?â Finn responded rather casually.
âFor now, we have you in our clutches, donât we? I once told you, always leave room for maneuver, for we may meet again. However, Mr. Lewis, you seem to have disregarded my advice.â
