Chapter 4

03.

HOME.

"The world could do so much better without people like you, my son's potential wasted because he wants to take responsibility for a decision he made on a whim, please, don't amuse me, you're worthless, useless and expendable, one day he'll see it." Those words haunted me the rest of the dinner, we had gone to tell Drake's parents about our decision to become parents again, and that the artificial insemination had worked, he wasn't happy or pleased, much the opposite.

"Don't think about it so much, my father —." Drake sighed because there wasn't reason enough to defend his father, he still would try, I never made the arguments go on for long, his father was a thorn in my side ever since I was introduced to him, now he had just gotten bigger, and I just wish he saw what I saw when I am with Drake, a future.

"Don't worry, it's okay, I'm okay alright, lets just be happy Klein is getting another sibling, you're getting more clients and finally I have another interview with a potential investor." I was always the shining example of looking on the bright side, I had to do so because my marriage depended on it, it wasn't easy but I made it work that way. "Good, forget about my dad, I'll deal with him."

Ceres Beau.

I didn't want to feel relieved but I did, leaving my old house, leaving it with all the memories on each wall that kept playing over in my head, it was starting to get to me, but in this new place, I had the freedom of looking at the picture of my kids and smile, my two blessings. I quickly grabbed my bag and my other bag with essentials, then checked if I didn't forget Lolita's day care bag, luckily I didn't this time.

I rushed down the stairs to the kitchen, grabbed the cake I baked, Klein's lunchbox and my baby's lunch bag, I ended up carrying a lot. "Dad, whoa, you could've told me to help." Klein protests quickly getting out of the car, opening the back and helping me put in everything. "Sweetheart you could help me by not forgetting your lunchbag." I chided ruffling his curls and he whined. "Now get in before we're late." I told him as I checked the door, I always forget to lock but hey this time I got auto lock, such a gift.

Soon enough I was driving to my son's school in the black jeep, it was his choice since it looked cool and was big, he bragged a lot I suspected. "Bye dad!" He called out as he got out, I got out too and kissed him goodbye. "Have a great day, don't forget your gloves, I put them in your training duffle!" I yelled as he nodded before waving me off his curls bouncing wildly on his head, it was adorable. "Ceres, is that you?!" Someone yelled and I whipped around to face Mrs Elle Forester, she was the wife of one of Drake's friends, seeing her now was irritating as she and her husband had strongly advocated for my divorce.

"Hello." I greeted politely waving at my daughter who giggled singing Lost on you by LP. "Oh my word, it's really you, you look very good." She stated as if there wasn't any animosity between us. "Uh yes, thank you, I really have to go." I told her turning to my car which she gawked at but hid it quickly. "I didn't know your son went to this school, do you live in the neighborhood?" She asked and now I knew her motive, she was fishing for something. "I'm really sorry I need to go, I wish I had time to play catch up with people I don't know,  but have a good day though." I told her with a chuckle before getting into my car and driving away.

She didn't like me then, I'm pretty sure nothing changed now, I wonder why she was even trying. "Hey sweetie, soon you'll be going to school like your brother, do you want to?" I asked Lita who nodded furiously. "I wanna make a lot of friends, and play tea party, daddy when can we visit grandpa?" She asked and I chuckled. "When he comes back from his trip sweetie, I'm sure you're his number one girl." I replied my daughter who grinned, she loved my father a lot, I guess it had something to do with her being spoilt by him but I didn't care, she deserved it.

"Bye my nubian queen." I teased my daughter as she giggled and went off to where her friends were. "Mister Beau, hello, this is for you, it's your daughter's progress card, and we had an issue with your permission log for your daughter could you sort it?" The lady at the reception told me as I was about to leave having checked in that I brought my daughter. "Drake Will isn't allowed to get her, same with anyone else who isn't myself, Gavin Price, and my father Tyler Beau, here is his picture." I explained to her and she nodded typing on her computer."It's all been updated thank you, I can't help ask is that a fragrance from Beau cosmetics?" She asserted and I nodded eagerly.

"It's not yet officially out but I get to have first dibs, it's called one man army, you like it?" I asked and she nodded eagerly. "Great, I'll let you know when it's officially out." I told her and I could've sworn a squeal came from her. "Thank you and bye!" She waved me off and I returned it getting out the main doors. My daughter's day care was actually two buildings away from my place of work, it was so convenient, living in North City was such a blessing the weather was crazy but the people most of them were great.

After parking my car at my spot underground I made my way to the double doors that led to the elevator and soon enough I was going up to my office. I couldn't afford a big building but the space we had was enough since the production factory wasn't on site, here we just had the labs. "Good morning Ceres, you have mail and you have an appointment in about ten minutes, should I just put him through?" Maya my assistant asked and I nodded while getting into my office. "Whose the one seeing me so early?" I chortled and she chuckled too. "A mister Forester with a mister Talbert." She replied and my eyes narrowed, why in the world had I not known sooner, those surnames had been familiar for a reason.

"They're here." Maya spoke up leaving as the two men who I thought I'd never see again walked in. I thought there was some ominous music playing in the background as they seemed shocked to see me. "Mr. Forester, and mister Talbert, how nice, please gentleman sit, can I get you anything, coffee, juice, betrayal?" I asked snidely I was sure the last part wasn't heard. "I'll have coffee thanks." Forester replied. "Same." Talbert added. "Ceres you look seriously different." Craig Talbert began and I snickered. "Divorce will do that to you dear." I replied as I pressed the button that patched me through to Maya. "Maya, three coffees, you know my usual and get yourself some." I told her and didn't wait for a response, I knew she was on it.

"Ceres, I'm sorry about what happened." He began again but I just shrugged, I wasn't over everything that happened, seeing the people I considered friends in front of me like this opened some scars but I wasn't going to relapse. "Im not, I'm okay now with what happened seriously, I got here because of it." I replied honestly as Forester squirmed in his seat, he was just like my ex husband, bulky, handsome, light chocolate skin, you wouldn't mind walking around with him all day. "So what brings Anderson Forester and Craig Talbert to my office?" I asked as Maya came in with the coffee. "Black, three sugars, extra milk and a hint of coco." She stated as I accepted my large coffee. "Thank you Maya." I called out as she left with a smile.

"Whoa, coffee is amazing." Craig blurted out and I chuckled waiting for ny other guest to speak up. "I came here with a business proposal, an investment and partnership." He quickly explained handing over a file but I never accepted. "Denied." I stated with a smile and he gawked. "Don't get me wrong, in another time Anderson I would've accepted that, whatever it is but right now I'm at capacity with investments, I don't need more and even if I did, accepting an offer from you —though purely business would be a bad move for me, when things get tough you jump ship, I know your company's reputation, so no thanks." I explained and he seemed to ponder my words with downing his coffee.

"Craig anything else?" I asked and he scoffed then sighed. "He misses you, he's a wreck, and I don't know if it'll be any help, but just let him see the kids." He replied with all his being turning to my ex husband, the accusation in that statement louder than words. "Craig I'm not the one who cheated, I'm not the one who filed for divorce, I'm not the one who lied to our son about comimg to his games or just being there for him, I'm not the one did any of that, I never kept him away from the children, he did, he's distanced himself from the kids, funny enough he actually allowed whatever it was with the house to happen and then tried to be chivalrous by telling me that I could have the house after evicting me, so as you can see Craig, I'm not the one at fault, I haven't done anything except accepting the crap thrown my way and pushing past it." I told him explicitly and didn't waver.

Forester now seemed lost in thought as Craig was speechless. "So I'll be seeing you." I asserted standing up and so did they. "Boss, mister Lamont-Striker is here and so are the people from Copper Magazine." Maya spoke through the telecom as I saw my ex husband's friends out. "Hmm look at you, you're glowing, come here." Tyrell immediately crushed me in his arms without a care for the two men who he passed. "I missed you too." I wheezed out as his huge inflated biceps crushed me. "Now, let me look at you, I envy your hair, always, you look gorgeous." He complimented making me blush all over again.

"Can you wait in my office cousin I need to see the people from Copper." I told him and he nodded. "Hello, Im Marissa, from Copper Magazine of course, huge fan of yours, is there anywhere we can speak?" She was giddy and I chuckled leading her into my office. "This is my cousin Tyrell Striker." I introduced and Marissa grinned with a nod. "Nice to meet you again Marissa, she interviewed me last year for their magazine, I'm so proud it's you this year." Tyrell explained and I was now positively enchanted. "No spoilers Tyrell but yes, we're the exclusive go to for anything and anyone making buzz in the business world and the end quarter publish also showcases the entrepreneur of the year." She explained and my jaw hung loose. I was what now.
