Jasper was grabbed by the wrist by William and they walked out of the store.
âWhat are you doing, William?â Jasper asked, confused. They left so suddenly and he didnât know what their classmates would say about it.
William stopped and turned to Jasper. âIf we stayed there, how would you answer Rogerâs question?â he asked.
Jasper froze and bit his lip, not saying a word.
His dark eyes narrowed, âAre you planning to agree to date him?â
âOf course not!â Jasper quickly replied.
Her words relieved him, âSo, are you going to reject him?â he asked.
âYeah,â Jasper said, âIâm just not sure how to say it.â
âWhy are you unsure?â
âWhy canât you make up your mind?â
âBecause he might be Lawrence,â Jasper said. âIf he really is Lawrence, thenâ¦â
âSo, if you reject him, are you afraid heâll be sad and upset?â
William asked.
Jasper nodded. He knew her too well. She couldnât hide anything from him.
âBut what if he really is Lawrence?â he pressed. âIf itâs not just a possibility, but he really is Lawrence, would you be afraid of hurting him and agree to date him?â
Jasper blinked, looking puzzled. âBut if Iâm not dating him because I like him and want to be his girlfriend, wouldnât he be even more upset?â
Her words left him speechless.
âWhatâs wrong? Did I say something wrong?â she asked, confused.
He chuckled. âNo, you didnât say anything wrong. Youâre right. If someone really likes you and youâre not dating them because of that, it will definitely make them more upset!â
In fact, she had a more insightful perspective on the issue than he had imagined. He, on the other hand, was caught up in this meaningless dilemma.
âBut actually, now that I think about it, he probably doesnât really want to date me,â Jasper said again.
âWhy do you think that?â he asked.
âBecause he didnât show any signs of liking me before. I was the one who pursued him, and he knew it was because he looks like Lawrence. When he asked me to date him in front of everyone, he must have known that it would put me in a difficult position and make things awkward for both of us. Soâ¦I donât think he really likes me and wants to date me. If you really like someone, you wouldnât want to embarrass them in front of others,â Jasper explained.
As William listened to Jasperâs analysis, he suddenly realized that she was actually more analytical than he had imagined.
He used to think she was naive and easily fooled, after all, the Reed family had protected her too well and shielded her from the dangers of the world. But in reality, she was aware of everything she needed to be aware of.
âSince you understand that he is not sincere, why are you afraid that rejecting him will make him sad?â said William.
âBecause of his face,â grumbled Jasper.
