The silence inside the carriage compelled him to make this call, as he couldnât resist the urge to hear her voice.
âAre you on my side of the house now?â Jasper startled and quickly asked, âAt the front door?â
âMhmm,â he responded.
âSo, are you coming in?â she asked.
âNo, itâs already late,â he whispered, âI just really want to hear your voice, Jasper. Can you talk to me a little longer?â
His voice had a sense of brokenness to it, sounding different from how it usually did.
Jasper didnât know why, but suddenly felt a sense of unease in his heart.
She stood up, holding her phone, and walked out of the room, quickly descending the stairs.
âWilliam, whatâs wrong? Did something happen today?â Jasper asked.
âNothing happened, I just got bored staying in the villa alone, so I came out for a bit,â he said, trying to sound casual.
But she knew him too well and could sense his deliberate tone.
So Jasper quickened her pace and said, âWait for me outside now.â
âWhatâs wrong?â he asked.
âI came out to find you,â she said.
âNo need, itâs already late. Iâll be driving back soon,â he replied.
âWait for me, Iâll be there in a moment!â she insisted. âI want to see you, I really want to see you now.â
Her footsteps had changed from walking to running, and when she arrived at the gate of the mansion, she opened it and saw a silver-gray car parked right at the entrance.
Thatâs Williamâs car!
And sitting inside the car, William also saw Jasper and immediately opened the car door and got out.
Jasper put away her phone and looked at Williamâs pale face. She raised her hand and suddenly placed both palms on his cheeks, sending a chill through his face.
âYour face is so cold,â she said. âAnd your complexion looks terrible. Something must have happened, right?â
He stared at her, feeling the warmth from her palms on his cheeks.
He stared at her blankly, feeling the warmth from her palm on his cheek.
âWilliam, weâre boyfriend and girlfriend. If something is bothering you, please tell me. I donât want to be in the dark about whatâs going on with my own boyfriend,â Jasper said.
He leaned into her hand and spoke slowly, âI went to the hospital and saw Harold and his team.â
Jasper was surprised, âYou saw them?â
âI wanted to ask them why they came to Emerald City and why they disrupted my life!â Williamâs voice was bitter. âIronically, their reason was that they missed me too much. They said I was their only flesh and blood, and they wanted me to forgive them for giving up on raising me.â
Jasper fell silent upon hearing this, looking at the bitterness on his face. His pain tugged at her heartstrings.
âWhy do they have the right to abandon me so easily, only to come back and disrupt my life, expecting me to forgive them? If this is what family ties are, then Iâd rather not have their blood running through my veins!â said William.
