Chapter 30

Moving On…Again

Alpha's Little Mate

RHIANNON

Madelyn and Rhodes won’t make eye contact with me the next morning at the breakfast bar.

I know that I’m as bright red as a tomato. Isaac squeezes my thigh under the table and tries to hide the smile tugging at his lips.

“Alix and Shazi are looking for the warlock that wiped your memories. They are going to try to find some answers. Maybe something can still be done,” Madelyn tells me.

I’m grateful that she quickly brought up something, anything to talk about.

“We need a vampire,” Isaac says roughly. “We need to capture one and have a chat.”

“Where will we keep it?”

“That’s the problem, I don’t know. Maybe Sabina will know a place.” He rubs his hands over his tired face.

“We shouldn’t have a problem finding one,” Madelyn adds. “Alix told me that vampires have been roaming the area pretty openly since destroying Mag Mell.”

“After breakfast we’ll go see what we can find. You stay here,” Isaac gestures between us.

I notice Madelyn purse her lips. She, like me, doesn’t like being left out. She stays quiet, choosing not to argue with her alpha.

I eat breakfast slowly, trying to drag out the time until he leaves. Eventually, even my stalling has to come to an end.

“Stay in the room, we will be back as soon as possible. I love you,” Isaac kisses my forehead and lightly hugs me.

“Be safe, please,” I lean into his kiss and turn slightly to Rhodes, hoping to silently convey my message to him.

“I’ve got his back, Luna,” he says with a nod, obviously understanding.

“How are you dealing?” Madelyn asks me as we step into the elevator. “You’ve had some bombshells the past few days, are you okay?”

I give her a small smile while trying to think of the words to answer her.

“I…honestly, I’m not really sure. Overall, I’m okay. I have these horrible things attached to my past, but I don’t remember them so they kind of…don’t affect me, if that makes sense.

“Hearing about Mag Mell being destroyed and fairies dying, even about being held captive by a vampire, it makes me sad, but…it’s like hearing about it happening to someone else.

“I’m crushed that it seems like I won’t ever get my memories back. I want to remember my life, my family, but not if it means losing Isaac.”

“So, you’re not going to reverse it even if the warlock can do it?”

“Not if it means forgetting Isaac,” I tell her with finality.

“Can I say something? That might be out of place and would definitely get me in trouble with Jacko.”

“Of course,” I tell her, intrigued.

“If you did do it, have your memories restored, I think that you would fall in love with Isaac again.

“I’m not saying it would be easy, but...you guys are mates, he’s marked you. Even if your brain didn’t remember him, your heart still would.”

I’m frozen for a moment. I hadn’t considered that. I’m not changing my mind, but it brings me a strange feeling of comfort to think that even without my memory, the bond would draw me back to him.

“What do you think of Rhodes?” she asks me.

“It’s weird, we don’t know him, but I trust him. It’s not the same as with you or with Laren or Noah, but I feel a kind of...draw to him?

“Kind of how I feel about you guys, a connection.” I hope that makes sense to her.

“Yeah, me too. Something about him feels familiar. I hope when this is all over Jacko asks him to come back to our pack.”

“Do you...like him? Like as in—”

“Whoa, whoa, no. He’s obviously attractive, but he’s not my mate, there is no bond or pull there. I just think he’s a really good guy,” she explains quickly.

“I see, and I agree.”

We chat until late afternoon, then decide to order lunch. Who knows when they will return? A sound at the door surprises us both. The room service is being delivered really quickly.

Before she can open the door, Isaac steps inside.

“You’re not room service,” I pout slightly, trying to hide my smile.

His rough, serious facial expression softens, and he smiles down at me.

“Sorry, angel. No time for room service.”

He turns to Madelyn and commands, “Go collect your things, and grab Rhodes’s stuff, too. We’re leaving. We got one—Rhodes stayed behind to...finish up. We’re going to meet him.”

She nods and quickly leaves the room.

Isaac starts grabbing the few things that are unpacked from our suitcase. “We have to go.”

“Is everything all right?” He looks nervous as he haphazardly shoves a pair of his pants into the bag in a crumpled ball.

“Not exactly. I’ll fill you in, I promise, but right now we have to go. Quickly.”

I rush around the room, checking to make sure we aren’t leaving anything behind.

As we rush into the lobby, I see Madelyn come out of an elevator with a few small bags.

“Where did you get this car?” I ask as we get into a large black Mercedes.

“I called in a favor. There is a pack a few hours from here. The alpha, Lucas, and a few of his guys are waiting with Rhodes.”

We speed away from the hotel, and I notice another black Mercedes following closely behind us.

“Don’t worry, that’s one of his guys, just an escort,” he says and squeezes my hand.

“Okay...what’s going on, Isaac?”

“The vampire we captured spilled like a leaky bucket. He told us that there was an insider in the fairy kingdom.

“That’s how Julius not only found out about you, but also how he got into the kingdom to destroy it. He’s sending people, because he knows you’re here.

“We’re getting you out of here, now. We’re going to Igtaralivit. It’s on the coast of Greenland. Ommin, the warlock that wiped your memory, lives there.”

“Who was the insider?” Madelyn asks.

“He didn’t know. I’ve made some calls, we’re being met in Greenland by Alpha Hunter, and Lucas is coming with us.

“Alpha Dylan is reaching out to the council to let them know what is going on. We’re getting rid of this threat, immediately.”

Knowing that so many alphas are joining in to stop this makes me feel so much better. I know that it won’t be Isaac alone trying to fight this threat.

We reach a small helipad and there are several people standing around a prop plane.

“Hello, Luna! I’m Alpha Lucas,” the hulking man pulls me into a hug. He’s obviously several years older than Isaac.

“Wow, Jacko, you’re a damn fool!” he says, snorting out a laugh.

“Oh, God,” Isaac growls out, clearly irritated. “Shut up about it, asshole!”

I look between the men in confusion.

“He thinks it’s hilarious that I didn’t know you’re a fairy. I’ve never met a fairy. How was I supposed to know?” he defends himself.

I try to hide the giggle that bubbles up in my throat.

“Not you too!” He kisses my forehead lightly.

I’m surprised to see that even Rhodes is smiling at their antics. I don’t fail to notice the blood on his jeans, though. I don’t think things ended well for the vampire they questioned.

“Okay, everybody, let’s board, we need to get out of here.” Alpha Lucas herds us all onto the small plane.

Then we take off to unravel more of the mystery and, hopefully, put an end to the danger.
