Chapter 107
Savvy Son-in-law by VKBoy
CHAPTER 107 Benjamin reached a large mansion spanning over 600 acres, much bigger compared to the Sterling villa.
âThe Myers mansion,â he checked his mobile. âSomeone called Narika ordered a pizza, and they specifically asked for the pizza to be delivered at the cottage behind the mansion? Sounds fishy but whatever. Letâs get it over with.â
He reached the back entrance, where there were no guards blocking the entrance. He entered through the gate without a problem. No dogs were in sight. âDefinitely fishy.â He walked over the grass pavement vigilantly until the old cottage was in sight.
The door was closed. The atmosphere was cold yet gloomy. Looking at the dust on the ground around the cottage, it was clear that nobody had gone in and out, but Benjamin noticed a few small yet clean spots, suggesting that someone or something must have skipped their way across. He kept staring at the cottage, and as seconds passed, his expression darkened. âHorrible...â
âWhat is?â a feminine voice reached his ears. He slowly turned around. There was a long orange-haired woman smiling at him.
âSorry for surprising you, even though you donât look all that surprised, to be honest. You came a few minutes earlier than I thought, so I wasnât there to receive the order at the gate itself. As expected of a seven-star deliverer, I must say.â
Benjamin squinted his eyes. âYou...â he briefly glanced over his shoulder and looked at the cottage. âAre you the one responsible who put the man in the cottage in that horrible situation?â
Surprise filled her eyes. âYou were able to tell without even entering?â she frowned. âWho the hell are you?â
âJust answer his question,â Shadow flashed behind her, his dagger already touching her neck before she could do anything. âI-
Iâm innocent,â she said. âI was trying to give the pizza to that man, but he isnât eating.â âAre you telling me heâs fasting to death?â
Benjamin asked. âIâm afraid so,â she looked a bit guilty. âMy family members put him in that situation, and Iâve been trying to help him ever since, but it seems his heart has been broken beyond repair.â Benjamin wanted to confirm her words, so he tossed the pizza box inside the cottage through the window. The man sitting alone in the darkness, with knees broken, didnât even move an inch. His head was hung low throughout. Benjamin turned toward the orange-haired woman and said, âI believe your words, but Iâm going to call a doctor.â âNo!â she quickly said. âWhat?â Benjamin glared at her.
âI mean, I can help him. I will help him,â she assured. âI wonât let him die.â
Benjamin focused his sense of hearing and heard her heartbeat. It didnât seem like she was CHAP UR 107 lying. âFine. I will return after three days. If he is still in there rotting... you will regret it for the rest of your life.â After giving the warning, both Benjamin and Shadow left as they discussed some things among themselves.
The orange-haired woman was still sweating. (Who the hell are those two? One could see through my stealthy, and the other was so stealthy, I couldnât sense him until the dagger was touching my throat. And their presence... To think even I felt threatened by them... The world really is vast!) She then looked toward the cottage, and her heart began to beat strangely. âAre you really not going to eat anything, Carlos?â Meanwhile, at the Chief Justiceâs house.
Jacob came to see how Terry was doing and also to thank him for allowing to raise the ticket prices. He would have brought a nice gift if only Marisa hadnât died recently. Gifting right now didnât feel appropriate, after all.
âIâm sorry for not coming to watch the premiere,â said Terry, still looking a bit gloomy. âIâm not in the mood to consume any form of entertainment now.â
âItâs okay, Mr. Terry. I can totally understand. Youâve already done more than enough. Iâm really grateful for that.â âIâm glad you understand.â
âHow about we play cards this weekend? It might help you divert your attention from your loss.â
âIâm not sure, but weâll see.â At that moment, Terryâs phone rang. A text message. He glanced at the screen, and his eyes slowly but surely widened upon seeing a poster.
At Blackbearâs hideout.
Blackbear also just received a text message. After checking it, he looked surprised. âWho the hell put this much money on this guy?â His underlings looked shocked. âOne million dollars for his head? Boss, if we kill him, our brothers wonât have to worry for another year.â
âWe need to act fast, Boss, or someone will grab the opportunity.â
âShut it, guys. This guyâs no easy meal, but still the offer is indeed tempting,â Blackbear tapped the mobile to his chin, wondering what he should do.
At Rowdy Queenâs humble house.
She received a printed poster left at her doorstep. âAn S-class bounty poster? Itâs been a while since I got one.â When she looked at Benjaminâs face on the poster, she froze for a good couple of seconds. She then bit her lower lip and shook her head.
âAh-huh, itâs too low. Whoever put the bounty on his head have no fucking idea what this guy is capable of. You canât hunt a tiger with rabbits. Whoever goes after him, Iâm afraid... theyâll never see the light again.â
Somewhere else in the city, on a random rooftop. Alfred was standing at the edge, staring at Benjaminâs wanted poster. He didnât look happy or angry. He wore a neutral expression. âIf this poster reaches that place, things will get out of my hand. Please settle this thing as quietly and quickly as possible, Master.â Outside the Sterling villa.
A taxi was parked not far from the main entrance. Benjamin was sitting in the back while Shadow was in the driverâs seat.
Benjamin was staring at the villa, hoping to get a glimpse of his wife, but he couldnât see her again today. Even though they were doing nothing but waiting, Shadow didnât seem frustrated at all. He was extremely patient because he respected his lordâs feelings. Shadowâs phone vibrated. He pulled it out from under his sleeve and checked the message. Seeing the bounty poster, a wide grin etched on his face.
