Chapter 115
Savvy Son-in-law by VKBoy
CHAPTER 115 Anger flickered in Arloâs eyes, but he coolly asked, âCan you show me your invitation card?â
His father Langdon made customized invitation cards for all the families and friends he had invited over to this party, so Arlo was sure Benjamin didnât have an invitation card, unless he stole others. Either way, once itâs made public, Arlo could kick him out of the party by himself. That was what he was after.
Benjamin, however, smiled and looked at Veronica, puzzling her. âWhy didnât you ask my sister-in-law the same question?â
asked Benjamin. âBecause sheâs Jacob Sterlingâs daughter. His whole family was invited, so sheâs also invited.â âAnd Iâm Jacob Sterlingâs son-in-law,â Benjamin raised his brows, âam I not?â Arlo frowned. Benjamin and Rebecca hadnât separated yet, so even though they were living away from each other, they were still very much a couple. âIâll deal with you later,â Arlo started walking away. âYou donât want the painting?â asked Benjamin, but Arlo didnât stop. Veronica chuckled a little, but when Benjamin shifted his gaze toward her, she quickly collected herself and harrumphed before walking away. She appeared more like a child than an adult in the way she behaved.
âBenjamin...â Rebecca came over to him.
âRebecca!â Benjamin put the painting away and gave the bouquet to her. âThis is for me?â It was a small but beautiful jasmine bouquet, and its wonderful fragrance stimulated her senses and soothed her soul. This type of bouquet wasnât sold at a floristâs as far as she knew, so he must have made it by himself. Regardless, it was easily the best gift she had received in a while. She wished those flowers wouldnât fade so she could keep the bouquet with her forever. âThanks. This is precious.â
Benjamin grinned like a Cheshire cat.
âBut why did you come here?â she looked worried. She was afraid of his family members causing a scene. Shawn was already giving a death glare at Benjamin. âI didnât shed weight in over two days,â Benjamin said, âso I was looking for the best place to unload all of it. And this place is perfect for pooping, donât you think?â
Rebeccaâs lips stretched sideways and exposed her teeth. âThatâs disgusting.â âBut it made you smile, though.â âNo, I didnât smile.â
âYeah, you did.â
âNo, I didnât.â She slapped his arm.
âOkay, okay. You canât see your smile, but you win.â
As silence crept into their space, they surrendered themselves to it and kept looking into each otherâs eyes that had become laborers of love. Just then a tall man walked past them and kept checking Rebecca out and began biting his lips. He was aged over fifty and was a rich businessman, but his actions angered Benjamin.
âDonât,â she whispered. âHeâs just drunk.â
Benjamin listened to her.
âWhy do you get so angry so fast?â she asked, still staring into his intense eyes. âIs it because of your temper? Or do you really love me so much?â
âWouldnât you get upset if some other woman began checking my ass out?â
âI would, but...â she pressed her lips together. âShould we go and look at the paintings?â
âWhy would I care about those paintings when Iâm already looking at the prettiest painting there is,â her words strengthened her heartbeat. âWhy bother about the wine,â his hand slowly raised up to her lips, âwhen the sweetest honey resides in these lips.â As she stared at him, almost spellbound by his words, he touched her slender waist. It was a gentle touch, but there was a hint of firmness in it, and her whole body felt a rush of goosebumps. She didnât expect him to touch his waist like that. She pushed his hand down.
Benjamin who was about to touch her lips with the risen hand stopped and pulled that hand back. She wasnât ready yet, to display her love in public. He got that and didnât want to force her into displaying her affection for him. âDid I go too far? Iâm sorry.â
Rebecca didnât say anything, but she kept looking around.
Elizabeth, who had been watching all this, felt so frustrated, her intestines turning greener with every second. She looked at her brother and rebuked him, âLook at him and learn! He just walks up and owns Rebecca even after all the shit that has happened, but what about you? Youâre fucking busy eating chicken roast!â
âS-Sorry, sis,â Georgeâs mouth was covered with sauce. âDoctor told me I shouldnât eat oily food, but I couldnât resist.â
âThatâs not what Iâm talking about,â her voice crackled with fury, âyou idiot!â She would have twisted his ear 360 degrees if only she wasnât at a party. âI know, but I was just clarifying things, thatâs all.â
Elizabethâs brows twitched in annoyance. She clutched her head before walking away from George who then went back to his eating, Meanwhile, Artur was talking with Shawn. âDidnât you kick him out of the house? Whyâs he still here?â
âWe didnât bring him with us,â Shawn explained himself. âThat sneaky bastard came here without telling us.â
âStill, this wouldnât have happened if only you had made your sister sign the divorce papers!â Artur was so mad, saliva flew out of his mouth, even though he was keeping his voice low.â
After that I would have made that little fucker sign the documents myself.â
âIâm trying,â Shawn lowered his head, âTsk,â Artur looked at Rebecca, and she was still next to Benjamin, holding the flowers he had given her. âHe just gave her what?
A bunch of tiny flowers? If it was me, I would have made her a whole bed of flowers! I would have filled the entire mansion with flowers to receive her, yet she chooses to be with that pathetic bastard. Why? What does she see in him? I donât get it.â
Just then, Arlo interrupted their conversation by stepping into their space. âIâm very glad that you took time to show up, Mr. Artur,â
Arlo put his hand forward.
âHow can I miss a grand party like this?â Artur shook Arloâs hand âItâs grand, but weâre missing the yacht vibes where we can dance and drink and throw currency notes on the beauties as much as we want, donât you think?â
âWell, yes.â
âThen can you make some time for my friendâs birthday party tomorrow night?â Arlo asked.â Itâs gonna be a blast on one of my yachts, I promise.â
âI canât guarantee, but Iâll try;â replied Artur, not making eye contact. âGreat,â Arlo then left as a happy man. âWhat do you think of this Arlo Campbell?â Artur asked Shawn.
âSomeone who gives high-interest loans for anyone that asks of him and then sucks their whole wealth dry using all means available... heâs a devil in disguise.â
âMm, I give high-interest loans to my friends, too,â Artur said. âDoes that also make me a devil, senior?â
Shawn faintly smiled and said, âWe both donât hesitate to put our morals aside for making more money, so that makes us devils, too, I guess, but weâre smaller devils compared to the likes of Arlo Campbell.â
âHuh,â Artur snorted a little, âyou really have a way with words.â âFooling people into taking all kinds of insurance is my job, after all.â
Their wine glasses clinked. âMm?â just then Artur noticed something coming over, flying in the dark sky. âWhat the.â
It was a flying drone, carrying a heavy object. Arturâs eyes widened. âA bomb!âhe yelled.
