Chapter 144
Savvy Son-in-law by VKBoy
CHAPTER 144 âGet your hands off me!â Rebecca pushed Donovan away, which didnât surprise him. âI think Iâve seen enough,â
Catherine glared at Rebecca. âDonât ever show your face around here again.â She shut the door in Rebeccaâs face.
âWait!â Rebecca shouted. âYouâve misunderstood me, Aunt Catherine.â She knocked on the door five times, but there was no response.
Donovan again put his hand on her shoulder. She turned to slap him, but he caught her hand. âLet go of me,â she yanked her hand, but his grip was so hard she couldnât free herself.
âIâm not possessive like your husband,â Donovan grinned, âbut Iâm sure I can definitely please you better than he ever can.â
She went for a slap with the other hand. Again, he caught her and amusedly smiled. He was taller and stronger, but that didnât intimidate her. However, what bothered her was that there were people watching, and they made no attempt to intervene. âIâm the kind of guy who doesnât take shit,â Donovanâs voice grew rough and sharp like a cutting wind. âIf you slap me, Iâll slap you back.â Saying that, he let go of her arms. âIf cruel romance is your kind of thing, thereâs no better mate than me around.â
Rebeccaâs blood was boiling. âI wonât warn you again. If you bother me once more, Iâll make you regret it for the rest of your life.â
She walked off, but he didnât stop her this time. He turned around and stared at her back and mumbled under his breath, âSheâs a whole snack.â He took his mobile out and took some snapshots. âCanât wait to get my hands on all this wealth.â He licked the mobile screen once.â Hehe.â
He then dialed a number. âHello, Blackbear. Itâs me.â âYes, Mr. Donovan. How is Jasmine?â
âSheâs perfect, but itâs not about her. I have a favor to ask.â
âAnything. Just ask.â
âI want some dirt on a woman,â Donovan said. âIâll send you her picture.â
âWhat if we couldnât find dirt?â
âJust create it.â
âHaha. Alright.â
Meanwhile, Rebecca drove to her home. Just when she got home, she received a call from Benjamin.
She was in a bad mood, so she cut the call.
He called again.
She pursed her lips and answered. âIf itâs about the movie, Iâm not coming.â
Benjamin fell silent. He was about to ask her to come to the movie, but how did she know? âP Please, Rebecca. I want to watch this movie with you.â He asked like an innocent child requesting his caretakers.
Her mood was still pretty bad because of everything happening, be it her professional or personal life. However, she remembered that it was in fact a movie that had helped her when she was a kid and was sick.
Moreover, did she ever go to a movie together with Benjamin? No. âAlright, but Iâm not sure if I can get the tickets or not,â she replied tentatively. âI have the tickets, so donât worry,â Benjamin excitedly said. âShould I come and pick you up?â
âHow long do we have?â
âThirty minutes.â âThereâs no time for me to get ready.â âS-Sorry,â Benjamin wanted to slap himself. He had been sleeping all this while. If not for Shadow, he wouldnât have woken up. âJust text me the location. Iâll come myself.â
âSure.â
The call ended, and Rebecca sucked in a burdened breath. In the past decade or so, every time she went to a theater, it was with Jane. Now, the whole situation with Jane made her feel strange. âHow can she misunderstand like that? Doesnât she know what kind of person I am?â she gritted her teeth as she remembered Jane once accusing her of stealing her purse back in the college and searched her whole luggage. However, the bag was later found in another classmateâs room. Jane had forgotten it there. âCome to think of it, once she doubts something, sheâs quick to jump to conclusions. But how am I going to prove my innocence this time?
âShould I record a video of Donovan trying to make me fall for him?â she shook her head.â No. Thereâs no guarantee sheâll believe it. What if she thinks weâre both playing a game together? Thatâll make things worse.
âAh,â she touched her forehead. âAll this thinking is giving me a headache. If I watch an action movie now, itâll only worsen, but I said Iâll come, so I have no choice.â
A few minutes later.
Rebecca arrived at the theater, and Benjamin was ready to open the car door for her. When she got out, however, he gave her a quick hug. âThanks for coming.â
Though she was initially surprised, it somewhat helped ease her mood a little. âYou asked, and itâs my dadâs movie, so...â
âYeah, but you have already seen the movie, so, you coming here to watch it again really makes me happy.â
Rebecca just smiled in return. âHey, by the way, when are you going to shave this beard? Itâs as big as my hand now.â
âLetâs go. Thereâs no time.â Benjamin caught her hand and took her into the theater.
Almost all the seats were full. They sat in the middle row, a perfect spot to watch the movie without needing to lift or lower oneâs head. The two seats on either side of them were empty. Alfred was sitting one seat away from Benjamin, busy chewing on popcorn and watching ads playing on the screen.
âThe movie is about to start, but these people havenât come yet,â Rebecca wondered. âTraffic issues, maybe?â Meanwhile, outside the theater.
âI havenât watched a movie in theaters for decades,â Mina was fuming at Shadow. âYou better give me that ticket, or Iâll break your bones.â
âNo,â Shadow didnât even take a second to reply. Benjamin had told him to keep the seats on either side of them empty, so even though he wanted to watch the movie, his lordâs wishes were of higher priority than his own.
âYou really have a death wish, donât you?â the veins on Minaâs arms swelled in size, and she vehemently clawed at Shadow.
âDie!â
