Chapter 159
Savvy Son-in-law by VKBoy
CHAPTER 159 Jacob might be old, but he was a tall and bulky man who could easily intimidate the common man with his appearance alone.
Such a man now rushed at his son-in-law, with fury flashing in his eyes. âI will break your nose and teeth and get your signature and thumb print this time so you can never show your face to her ever again.â
âYou sound like a caring father,â Benjamin said, still sitting in the chair âThatâs because I AM,â Jacob threw a swift punch, as fast as his old bones and muscles allowed him. Benjamin intentionally turned his head so Jacobâs fist connected his jaw. BAM! A loud noise erupted. âThis is the least I can do for my daughter.â He went for an upper cut this time. He connected again.
Benjaminâs whole body lifted and flipped in the air, shocking even Jacob because he didnât think he was that strong. However, the next second, Benjamin landed on his feet, looking completely fine. That was when he realized that it wasnât his punch that did the flipping job. And he didnât like the calm look Benjamin portrayed.
âYou came at the wrong time,â Jacob began shuffling his feet, as he warmed himself up. âIâve been pretty frustrated lately. I will take all of my frustrations out on you.â He pushed the chair aside and attacked Benjamin again. With a quick hit at the ankle, Benjamin made Jacob fall forward, but then he caught his shirt midway and let it go again so the crash wouldnât be rough. It all happened in a second-too quick of a time for Jacob to realize what had happened. By the time Jacob was back on his feet, Benjamin was gone from the room. Jacob saw that there was another fresh pizza box on the bed. It made him frown. âThis guy...â
Benjamin put his helmet back on and stealthily ran upstairs so that Amber who was eating at the dining table didnât notice him.
He then went to what he thought was Rebeccaâs room, but Selena was there, getting her makeup done. âShit. I forgot that this devil had taken over Rebeccaâs room.â He didnât even enter that room and skipped away on his toes like a deer.
He stopped by the next room and peeked through the window. Shawn and Elizabeth were there.
âDonât buy anymore of this stupid stuff,â Shawn threw the make-up kit into the window, and brush ended up hitting Benjaminâs face. Luckily, they didnât notice him, but Shawnâs actions brought tears in Elizabethâs eyes. Shawn felt a bit guilty and lowered his voice, âWhy are you crying? Iâm doing this for our own good, so put on a smile.â
Elizabeth didnât smile, so he pulled her cheeks and said, âYou look more attractive when youâre smiling, you know that?â
âAll lies.â âIâm not lying. Makeup only masks your beautiful features. You look much prettier when youâre smiling without makeup.â
Elizabeth knew him enough to not fully buy his words, but his sweet words still were very much pleasing to hear, especially because he rarely praised her. So, she ended up melting in his embrace.
A strange feeling stirred Benjaminâs heart. Was it jealousy? He wasnât sure. (Damn my married but bachelor life. I want to urgently hug my wife, too.)
Meanwhile on the second-floorâs balcony, Nolan was talking on a mobile. âYes, sir. In a week, right? Iâll personally come and receive the payout.â He then hung up. A bright smile played on his lips for a few seconds. âOnce I get the money, Dorothy and I can live the rest of our days peacefully. Itâll be wonderful if we can raise one of the grandchildren, but I doubt they will be willing to live with an old couple. We might not be able to handle them, too.â
âDad...â Georgeâs voice sent a shiver up Nolanâs spine. He quickly turned around. âG-Ge-George... since when were you here?â
âSince before you began talking to yourself,â Georgeâs face was glowing. âTo think you applied for life insurance without me knowing... How much is the payout?â âW-What life insurance? Itâs just some car insurance.â âAh, câmon,â he pinched Nolanâs belly. âDoes your son look that foolish? Is it for half a million, or more?â
After frowning, Nolan lowered his voice and said, âDonât say it out loud. Iâve kept this thing a secret from everyone until now.
Even your mother and sister donât know it.â
âHaha, fine,â George put his hands on his waist and laughed. A few seconds of silence passed. âSo...â George rubbed the back of his head. âHow much will you give me?â Nolanâs expression froze. âY-You already have a job, donât you?â âCâmon, dad. If you give me a hundred grand, I could really use it, you know,â he grabbed Nolanâs hands. âPlease.â He wasnât wrong, but Nolan looked hesitant. âPlease,â George begged some more. Nolan shook his head. âSorry, son. I canât give you the money. Your mother and I will need every dollar of it.â âWhat?â George let go of his fatherâs hands. âThen what am I to you?â âOf course, youâre my son. I will help you when you need it, but right now, I canât. Please understand.â
George helplessly smiled. âHmph, I get it. You never really considered me as your son because I wasnât good at studies or in looking after my parents. Iâm pathetic, which is why you never loved me.â
âThatâs not true. Youâre my son,â Nolan went closer and hugged him. âI will always love you no matter what.â
âDad...â Georgeâs eyes teared up. âIâm sorry.â âItâs okay,â Nolan was saying, but then he felt a push. Before he realized what was happening, his back hit the parapet, and his body flipped back and fell over the balcony.
