Chapter 88
Savvy Son-in-law by VKBoy
CHAPTER 88 Selena fired all the male butlers and cleaners after giving them the next three months salary, so they didnât complain and also leaked what happened inside the villa, and she didnât lose any face, either. Both parties knew that this was done to make Rebecca feel comfortable.
While Benjamin had taken Johnnyâs body in a car and went out into the city, Selena had removed Benjaminâs bed and all his belongings from Rebeccaâs room.
When Rebecca told her this wasnât necessary, she was told to shut-up.
âI know you better than you know yourself,â Selena told her. âRight now, itâs not good for a male to be living in your room, even if itâs your husband.â
âBut... shouldnât we at least discuss this with him first?â asked Rebecca. âWhat will he think when he comes back and sees all his stuff moved to another room?â
âLet him think whatever he wants,â Selena snorted. Her stomach rumbled again. âAh, for fuck sake!â she raised her hands and screamed before rushing to the washroom in Rebeccaâs room itself.
Delle then explained to Rebecca about Benjamin putting diarrhea-causing pills in Selenaâs coffee. She touched her forehead in response. âItâs salt last time, and now itâs this? Whyâs he acting like this now?â
âNow that you told him youâll make your wedding public,â Selena spoke aloud from the bathroom. After taking the electrolytes, she was feeling energetic now. âHeâs finally showing his true colors. Heâll become more and more assertive, and if you keep silent, heâll get away with anything and everything. Donât forget that heâs the guy who took advantage of you when you were drunk. That type of a guy can never be trusted.â Her motherâs words didnât help Rebecca cope with the situation any better. She just killed a person, yet her mother was more worried about her son-in-lawâs situation.
At that moment, Jacob entered the room. âDad...â as he came over, she stood, thinking heâll hug her. âWhereâs the gun?â he asked. She didnât respond, or rather she couldnât. âI asked you, whereâs the gun?â âBenjamin took it,â her expression turned a bit said. âWhy?â
Jacob gritted his teeth. âHow could you be so foolish, Rebecca? If you had only just called, I would have used my contacts and dealt everything smoothly. What if this guy gets caught now? Even if he tells everything that happened, it wonât make you look good. When you killed Johnny in self-defense, there was no need for you to bury the body somewhere secretly, unless youâre guilty. Thatâs what the court will say.â
Rebeccaâs heart began beating faster and faster.
âI called him, but he isnât responding. You try calling him,â Jacob said, even though he didnât call Benjamin even once. After all, he didnât even have Benjaminâs number in his phone.
She immediately dialed Benjamin. He answered. âHey, where are you?â she asked quickly. Sensing the tension in her tone, he said, âBe calm. I told you Iâll handle this.â âThatâs not it. You should-â as Rebecca was speaking, Jacob snatched the phone from her. âItâs me, Jacob. Turn around and get back home right now! If the patrolling officers stop you, everything will get messy, you hear me?â
The call ended.
Jacob couldnât believe it. He looked at his daughter in disbelief. âDid he just hang up?â âWhat a mouth!â Benjamin slowed down his car and stopped by the group of officers that were checking every vehicle passing by. They soon came to his car and checked that there as no one else inside other than Benjamin.â Why donât you open the trunk, mate?â one of the officers said.
Just then another officer, Steve, recognized Benjamin. âHello, Mr. Benjamin. Where are you headed at this hour? To your second home?â âOf course, not,â replied Benjamin, calmly. âWhatâs going on here, though?â âAh, a missing girl case.â He showed the poster. âHave you seen here anywhere? Sheâs the chief justiceâs daughter.â
Benjamin glanced at the poster and remembered her. This was the same girl standing outside the underground tunnel, the one she let go. (She didnât return home? Perhaps, she was too afraid to return.) âWhy are you taking so long to reply?â Steve asked.
âSurely, you arenât hiding her in your trunk, are you?â
Benjamin stared at him, and Steve peered back at him without blinking and while chewing on the bubble gum. âJust kidding, mate.â He furled the poster and his voice slightly changed, âI saw you talking with Jane the other day at the party. Are you two close?â âNo. Iâm close with her friend, though.â âI see,â Steve felt a bit relieved. âAâight. You can go.â
Benjamin nodded and pressed his foot on the accelerator gently as there were still cars before him that were moving. The dog held by the officer began to sniff and shout as Benjaminâs car passed by. He glared at the dog, and it tucked its tail between its legs and squealed in a submissive manner.
One of the officers standing beside Steve asked, âAre you sure you donât want to check that guyâs car?â
âIâm sure. Heâs a hard-working guy. Not the kind to kidnap girls.â
âCharlie seems to have sensed something, though. Maybe heâs carrying some stuff.â âWell, we ainât got time to focus on that,â
said Steve. âYou got a point. If we donât find the chief justiceâs daughter by tomorrow morning, heâll be all over our department.â
Steve glanced at Benjaminâs car as it shrank in his sight. (I felt great when you hit Donovan, so now, weâre even.)
Meanwhile, somewhere else in the city.
In a private casino, Francis was kneeling on the floor, with his face completely covered in his own blood. He was gasping and cringing in pain and crying. âI really donât know. Please trust me.â His words werenât clear because a few of his teeth were missing. âI didnât know she was your daughter. I didnât know her until she called me. My son is missing, too.â
A fat man was sitting in the chair before him, with two dozen armed guards standing behind him. âIf your son wasnât missing, you would have already died. Itâs a pity that a capable law officers like us have to meet like this because of our incompetent children.
But this doesnât change the fact that she got into some kind of mess because of your son, so you should take responsibility for it.â He raised his hand a little and gestured to the guards. One of them stepped forth and took out a knife. âNo, wait, please!â
Francis begged. âGive me a chance.â
Despite his efforts, his tongue was pulled out and cut into half. Blood poured out of his mouth. He shut his mouth and bawled his eyes out.
The fat man, who was the Chief Justice of the country, stood and put his coat on. âPray that my daughter is alive. Otherwise, Iâll come for your life and everyone associated with you.â He turned and started walking. He glanced at the female guard next to him. âWho was that son-in -law my daughter talked about in her last call?â
