Chapter 97
Savvy Son-in-law by VKBoy
CHAPTER 97 Rebecca was so worried she didnât even enter the villa and stayed at the dorms. The change in her was obvious enough to easily see. âWho is this George?â Benjamin asked her, even though he thought it wasnât a good idea to remind her of the past.
He wanted to hear from her own mouth. âHeâs Elizabethâs younger brother,â Rebecca said with a frown. âHe smokes, drinks, gambles, and visits strip clubs. Thereâs nothing good about anything he does. Heâs utter filth. He and his sister together tried to marry either me or Veronica off to him, but we both refused. However, if Brother Shawn and Dad had no issues, I might have been forced to marry him, though I donât know what I would have done if things had gone that far. Luckily, Dad was completely against the idea of marrying me or Veronica to someone as useless as him. Mom also objected to it. âStill, he kept trying, and one day, he dared to touch Veronica inappropriately. She slapped him, and he lost his cool that day and slapped her back. After that incident, Mom kicked him out of the house. I donât know why heâs here after all these years. He smiles all the time, but underneath, heâs extremely jealous. As long as heâs here, our wedding reception wonât go smoothly. Heâll definitely cause something bad to happen. Heâs that type of guy. Benjamin could feel the anxiousness in her tone. He had never seen her like this before. She was clearly worried to the point she didnât want to enter the villa and look at Georgeâs face.
âJust wait here. Iâll go and bring the breakfast,â he said and then entered the villa.
Elizabeth and her family gathered at the dining table and were all laughing, except Lisa who looked dull because her boyfriend, Nate, dumped her. Even after all the things she did for him, he still broke up because she couldnât buy him the car she told she would.
She had already tried asking her father again, but Shawn refused again.
âWhat do you do in general, uncle?â Roshan asked. âI work in a garage,â said George, smiling. âIn a few years, Iâll have my own garage.â âGarage?â Roshan plainly shook his head. âRoshan,â Elizabeth interfered. âYour uncle might not look like it, but his driving ability is second to none. If he had become a racer, Iâm sure he would have earned many titles and brought fame to my Flower family!â
âThen why didnât he become a racer?â Roshan asked in a slightly mocking tone.
âWe didnât have good contacts back then,â Elizabeth said and gritted her teeth. âEveryone we trusted only ended up betraying us.
They stole our hard-earned money!â âStill, I will not believe it unless I see his skills for myself.â âHaha,â George smiled and said, âLetâs go for a ride in the afternoon.â âWhy not now?â
âYouâll end up vomiting. Thatâs why.â
âHuh, weâll see.â
Elizabeth didnât like the way Roshan treated George, but she couldnât blame him, either. Roshan was not even ten years old when George left the villa. He probably could have forgotten eating biscuits from Georgeâs hands when he was only a kid.
Elizabeth saw Benjamin entering the kitchen. âHey, Benjamin!â she called out for him. âWhy donât you come over and meet my brother, George!â Benjamin stopped and turned around to take a good look at George. He had no beard, but his mustache looked cool. âIâm busy, so maybe next time.â âBusy? What busy? You even quit the job,â Elizabeth said, âYou have all the free time in the world now, donât you?â âOne shouldnât quit their job,â George casually said. âItâs a bad practice. You must treat your job like itâs your life, or youâll not get far in any field you step into. Where did you work? If itâs possible, Iâll get you reinstated.â âHe used to work as a pizza deliverer,â said Dorothy, snorting. âPizza deliverer? Pfft,â George almost burst into laughter. âSorry, but I was really surprised. How can the only son-in-law of the Sterling family deliver pizzas?â âWeâve grown tired of telling him to quit,â
Elizabeth said, âbut heâs not the type to listen unless you slap him in the face. Still, how many times can we slap a grown adult?â
âHow about you join my garage?â George glanced at Benjamin, speaking in a friendly tone. âI can teach you all the necessary skills in a year or two, and then you can raise your own garage. If youâre good, you can earn five to ten grand every year.â âAs a seven-star pizza deliverer, I used to earn more than that, though,â Benjaminâs reply silenced everyone. âThatâs not including the tips. If I include the tips...â he didnât need to say further.
Elizabeth and her mother were no longer smiling.
George still smiled and said, âIf itâs a garage, your customers will come to you, and you get to choose who you want to service to, but if itâs a pizza delivery, you need to go and knock on talking about money, even a successful mobile canteen owner will earn more than a seven star or a ten-star pizza deliverer.
However, thereâs this thing called prestige. A mobile canteen owner canât look into the eyes of a software engineer and proudly say he runs a mobile canteen.â
âIf the mobile canteen owner loves what he does, Iâm sure he wouldnât feel shameful to tell others what he does, â Benjamin countered and glanced at Kathy who was standing on the side. âKathy, over there, cleans toilets everyday, but Iâm sure she proudly tells others that she âPigs eat shit and feel proud about it,â George said. âYou canât compare pigs with tigers and wolves that are much higher up the hierarchy.â
âI want to talk more, but I have some work,â Benjamin said. âIf youâll excuse me...â he then entered the kitchen and packed some food in a carriage box. As he was walking out, two people entered the villa. One of them was Jacob, and the other was Terry Praise. Neither of them were smiling.
