Chapter 112:

After leaving the RK Group with Cherry, Stella had dinner with her outside, as the Starlight Nightclub wasn’t open yet.

Stella sat across from Cherry.

In fact, Stella was a quiet person, especially when meeting someone new. She didn’t talk much.

When she had been with Emily, Emily had always been the one talking. At first, Stella had been silent, but over the years, she had gotten used to it.

Emily had likely gotten used to it as well. The main reason their relationship had grown so strong was because of Adrian.

All along, Emily had taken good care of Adrian. When Stella was abroad, she didn’t have much financial capability, and Emily had shared the burden with her. Adrian had always been the key to their close bond.

“Stella, I heard you worked abroad for so many years. How was it? What’s the difference between working in X City and abroad?”

Cherry broke the silence between them as she spoke.

Stella didn’t think much about it and simply said, “It’s good to be home.”

As long as Adrian was with her, it didn’t matter where she was; she was fine.

But as she thought about what RK had said to her in the locker room, she couldn’t help but feel a little scared.

If RK didn’t suspect anything, then it was fine. However, if he began investigating her relationship with Adrian… she truly didn’t know what she would do.

Over the years, she had hidden abroad with Adrian, avoiding discovery by that man. But unexpectedly… as soon as she returned, she had run into him.

What frightened her even more was that RK now seemed suspicious of Adrian’s identity.

Cherry’s eyes lit up with envy as she said, “Stella, you’re lucky to be back in X City! Your mom and dad are here!

Unlike me, working hard alone. If I want to see my parents, I have to wait until the New Year’s holidays to go back and visit them!”

However, when Stella heard this, she felt even more envious of Cherry.

At least Cherry had parents. She had a happy family. As for Stella… she couldn’t even go home.

Stella thought, If it weren’t for Adrian… I would probably still be all alone… without a home!

“Stella, if you’re working late outside, won’t your parents worry about you? We don’t even know when we’ll be going home tonight. Your parents must be worried, right?”

Cherry ate her food, her tone full of concern for Stella. In a normal, complete family, parents would worry about their children working late.

They’d cook meals and wait for them to come home, staying up until their children returned safely from work.

But as for Stella…

It seemed like she had never experienced that kind of care.

Even when she had been studying, she hadn’t felt it.

The only exception had been Tristan. He had given her that feeling.

Back in high school, Tristan had always picked her up and dropped her off. He had been more attentive than even her own father.

Thinking about that, Stella couldn’t help but feel a sense of warmth. That man could evoke such feelings of care, even now.

If it weren’t for the complicated relationship between them, Stella thought they could still be good siblings to each other.

“Stella, why don’t you call your parents and tell them not to worry? I’ve heard that Andrew and others often hang out until the next morning!” Cherry kindly reminded her.

Stella shook her head. “No, I’m fine.”

She thought to herself, I don’t have parents who would worry about me.

“By the way, Cherry, why don’t you bring your parents to live in X City? That way, you wouldn’t miss them every day,” Stella suggested.

“No way!” Cherry said, worried. “My mother is old and in poor health. If she comes to X City, I won’t be able to take care of her while I work. And my father has to stay back to work on the farm. But at least he’s home to care for her.”

Stella nodded.

She felt sympathy for those who had to leave their homes. After all, when she had been alone in France, she knew how hard it was to survive in a foreign country by herself.

“By the way, Stella, I always hear people say you’re involved with the boss. Can you tell me the truth? I promise I won’t tell anyone.”

Cherry spoke with a smile. Then she added, “If not, I’ll definitely stand up for you when I hear them gossip about you and the boss in the future!”

Cherry had just graduated from college, so it was natural for her to be so straightforward.

In the workplace, people often thought others were trustworthy and treated them as friends. However, Stella didn’t want Cherry getting into trouble over her, especially at the company.

Cherry had only recently arrived in X City. If she lost her job because of Stella, Stella wouldn’t know how to make it up to her.

“There’s no need to worry about that, Cherry. You don’t have to concern yourself with me. I’m not as weak as you think.”

Stella made up her mind.

In the end, she couldn’t confirm or deny the rumors.

She couldn’t confirm them because there was nothing between her and RK.

Should she deny them? If she did, Cherry would stand up for her whenever the topic came up, and Stella wouldn’t know how to handle that.

Stella simply didn’t want others getting involved in her personal affairs.
