Chapter 121
Love After Divorce
Chapter 121:
âThereâs no need!â Stella quickly grabbed the bag of medicine from Tristanâs hand.
âItâs getting late, Tristan. You should go back. You still have to work tomorrow. Iâll ask Emily to help me apply the medicine later,â she said, trying to make it clear that his presence was no longer needed.
She shot a pleading look at Emily, hoping her friend would take the hint and cooperate.
But Emily had no intention of helping. She stretched lazily and said with a fake yawn, âOh, I have work tomorrow too.
Iâve been worried about you all day, Stella. Iâm so tired. Iâll go to bed now. Iâll leave the medicine thing to you and Mr. Davisâ¦â
âEmilyâ¦â Stella grabbed her friendâs hand, trying to prevent her from escaping. How could Emily be this shameless? If she had just called the police earlier, none of this would have happened!
As Adrianâs godmother and her best friend, how hard could it be to help apply some medicine? Stella could see right through herâshe was setting her up with Tristan on purpose!
âEmily, if you donât help me apply this medicine, Iâm not putting it on tonight!â Stella said, trying to guilt her friend into staying.
The two of them exchanged exaggerated winks and silent glares, but Emily wasnât budging.
In the end, it was Tristan who broke the standoff. âIn that case, Iâll leave. Miss Emily, Iâll leave Stella in your capable hands.â
He gave Stella one last glance, and with a sense of finality, turned to go. Tristan would never force her into anything, no matter what.
Emily, now that Tristan had spoken, didnât protest further. She nodded. âAlright.â
Stella rolled her eyes. As her best friend, Emily shouldâve been on her side from the start!
Yet here she was, agreeing to help the moment Tristan asked, but when Stella needed her, she claimed to be sleepy! If Tristan hadnât been here, Stella wouldâve punched her in frustration!

Once Tristan left, Stella sat quietly on the sofa, feeling annoyed. Meanwhile, Emily, ever the busybody, took on the role of sending Tristan off, acting more like his mother than her friend.
As soon as Emily returned, she said with a teasing tone, âStella, why didnât you go send off your Tristan?
He went all the way to the Starlight Nightclub to save you, then took you to the hospital, brought you home⦠and took care of you the entire time! You couldnât even say goodbye properly?â
Emilyâs tone was that of a lecturing mother, as though she was trying to convince Stella to see what a great guy Tristan was.
She had always worried about Stellaâs love life, and now that there was someone as good as Tristan in front of her, Emily couldnât stand the thought of Stella letting the opportunity slip away.
âStella, itâs rare to find a good man like this.
Donât miss out! Otherwise, if you keep waiting, itâll take forever to find a boyfriend at your pace!â Emily said, sounding more eager to find a man than Stella herself.
Stella was used to Emilyâs enthusiasm about her love life. After all, Emily had been putting off her own romantic pursuits for years, always saying she wouldnât get married until Stella did. She even planned to be her bridesmaid first.
As close friends, they had always looked out for each other, but while Emily was always pushing Stella toward marriage, Stella herself had grown calmer about the topic.
It wasnât that Stella hadnât triedâshe had gone on plenty of blind dates, but the success rate had always been dismal.
Whenever her potential suitors found out about her past, theyâd disappear.
Those who stuck around often had difficult situations of their own, and while Stella didnât judge them, she knew it would be nearly impossible to find a man who could love Adrian as his own.
Thatâs why, over time, her large pool of potential suitors had dwindled down to a handful, and she had become more cautious.
âEmily, you donât need to worry about me,â Stella said with a sigh. âMarriage is a big decision. Itâs not something to rush. If I end up alone for the rest of my life, Iâll have Adrian with me. At least I wonât be completely alone.â
Though Stella spoke lightly, it was her way of accepting the worst possible outcome.
But for Adrianâs sake, she still hoped to find a partner who could be a father figure to her son. She didnât want Adrian to grow up without a father, but she knew how hard that dream was to achieve.
Emily let out a heavy sigh. âEven if you donât think about yourself, at least think about Adrian. Heâs already five years old.
Heâs not going to stay a child forever. If you wait too long, even if you do find someone, itâll be too late to make up for his lost childhood!â
This was why Emily was so insistentâshe didnât want Adrian to miss out on having a father.
âDonât worry, Emily,â Stella reassured her. âIâm paying attention. Iâll do my best to find a suitable father for Adrian.â
Emily wasnât convinced. âYou say that now, but how long are you going to drag this out?â She stood up, her face full of concern. âWhy wait? Tristan is right there! Heâs perfect for you!â
Emily pointed toward Adrianâs room, suddenly remembering something. âYour Tristan even bought a bunch of toys for Adrian today after they went to the amusement park! Where are you going to find someone like him?
Do you really think any random man out there would treat someone elseâs child this well? Tristan cares so much for both of you!â
She continued, âWhen he dropped Adrian off, he was supposed to have a meeting, but he canceled it just to go looking for you at the nightclub!
Doesnât that tell you how much you mean to him? He cares more about you than his own career!â
Emilyâs words followed Stella as she walked to Adrianâs room. Stella thought about what Emily had saidâabout Tristan buying toys for Adrianâand opened the door.
The sight took her by surprise. A huge pile of toys, of all shapes and sizes, filled the doorway and spilled into the room.
Emily explained, âThere were so many toys, Adrianâs room couldnât fit them all! The workers had to bring them all in.â
Stella stood speechless.
Wasnât this man just a bit too generous?
