Broken ➳Jacob Black [Book 2]
Jacob drove Kate's Jeep back while she was wrapped up in Jacob's clothes in the passenger seat trying to get warm. Bella was driving back behind them but Kate was still to angry with her to feel sorry.
Despite how much her body shook, she still felt warm on the inside at being around Jacob. His scent drifted up to her nose from his clothes and she snuggled deeper into one of his jackets. From next to her Jacob chuckled at this.
"If this is what I get for trying to be the good guy, I think I'll start being a bad guy," Kate mumbled.
Jacob laughed and with one hand pulled her against him. Kate cuddled into his side trying to get as warm as possible.
"You know, you don't have to freeze yourself to cuddle with me. All you had to do was ask?" he laughed.
Kate slapped him gently in the stomach but quickly returned her hand to the inside of his jacket. This made Jacob laugh even harder. The drive to her house was to quick for her liking but once they got there, she didn't move from his side. Jacob turned off the car and wrapped both of his arms around her. She looked up at him but noticed a small frown on his face.
"Jacob what is it?" she asked leaning back from him slightly.
He sighed, "You know what happened to Emily. Sam got angry, lost it for a split second, Em was standing too close. He'll never be able to take that back." He paused his voice trailing off and looking down. "What if I got mad at you?"
"You can't hurt me Jacob. You won't," she whispered to him.
Kate shifted and put her hand on Jacob's jaw gently sooting his cheek, "Jacob, look at me." His gaze slowly went back towards her. "You're not going to lose control of yourself because you're here, with me. I won't let you."
Jacob's eyes looked down at her lips before he kissed her gently pouring all of his fears into the kiss.
A door slamming interrupted them. Kate pulled away with a small smile to see her sister get out of her truck. She turned to get out of her car but the second she opened the door, Jacob tensed up and reached across her to slam it shut.
"Wait! There's a vampire. I'm getting you out of here," he told her.
Kate jumped out of the car before he could drive off, "Like hell you are. I'm not leaving my sister alone with one."
Bella seemed to come to the same conclusion as she saw Kate getting out of her car. Bella looked at her sisters expression back to the house before she quickly started to make her way inside. Kate spotted the familiar Carlisle car and started to follow her sister before Jacob stopped them both.
"You have to come with me," he snapped at them, "Look, if a Cullen is back here, this is their territory. The treaty says that we can only defend on our own lands. I can't protect you here."
Kate pulled her hand out of Jacob's grasp, "Okay, well it's a good thing I don't need protection."
Ignoring both her sister and Jacob, Kate jumped the stairs and burst into her house. It was all quiet until she heard movement to her right. She knew who it was immediately.
"Alice, get the hell out of my house before I do something you won't like," Kate growled.
Alice Cullen stood there in shock as she flicked the lights on looking at the girl's face. Rage was all over Kate's face as the two stared at each other. The door opened behind her and Bella came through.
"Alice?" she cried.
Alice looked at Bella from Kate with shock. Bella launched herself at Alice and it took all Kate had to not blast the two apart.
"Bella! Would you like to explain to me how you're alive?" Alice asked her.
A look of confusion crossed Bella's face, "What?"
"I saw a vision of you jumping off a cliff. Why in the hell would you try to kill yourself? I mean, what about Charlie?"
"I didn't try to kill myself. I was cliff jumping, recreationally. It was fun," Bella explained slowly.
Kate scoffed, "And where is all this concern coming from, Alice? Hmmm? You all left, an i had to pick up the pieces of her that you left shattered." Alice was silent as Kate glowered at the vampire. It was truly a terrifying sight. "She nearly died long before she decided to jump off a cliff and it's only now that you come running back? You all can go to hell!"
"KATE!" Bella snapped at her sister, "Come on Alice," she said to the vampire as she led her into the living room to sit down and have a chat like old friends.
Kate stood in the entrance to the room seething at the sight of the two of them. How dare she come back? Just when things were good again, the ballerina waltzes in like nothing happened and wants to play nice. Kate imagined multiple ways to kill the vampire for what she did to her sister as the two others sat talking.
"I've never met anyone more prone to life threatening idiocy," Alice exclaimed.
"Like what, being friends with vampires," Kate said shortly.
Alice gave her a withering look.
Ignoring her sister Bella asked the vampire, "Did you tell him?"
Alice shook her head, "No... He only calls once every few months. He said he wants to be alone."
Bella hung her head in sadness. Kate rolled her eyes before Alice turned to Kate with a disgusted look on her face.
"Kate, you have that god awful, wet-dog smell again," Alice grimaced.
Kate smirked, "Yea well, you know how close the werewolves and I are..."
"Kate, now that you're stronger these werewolves are not good company to keep, especially around Bella!"
Before Kate could respond a warm hand was placed on her back. She spun around and saw Jacob there glaring at the vampire.
"Speak for yourself," he snapped at her before turning to Kate with an almost pained look on his face, "I had to see you were safe."
Alice stood up looking at the two of them together, "Oh no! Really, Kate? Well, I'm not going to hurt her."
Jacob's hand tightened around Kate's waist, "No you're just a harmless Cullen. I'm talking about the other bloodsucker who tried to kill Bella and Kate because of you."
"Victoria?"
Kate frowned, "Yea well it seems the sins of your brother's past have come back to haunt us."
"I didn't see her," Alice said confused, "I haven't seen Kate at all for weeks. I didn't see you get pulled out of the water."
"So you didn't see me and decided 'Nah, that's cool she's fine.' but the second Bella disappears it time to sound the alarms. Fuck you, Alice," Kate growled.
Alice glared back at the girl before turning to Jacob, "I can't see past you and your pack mutts."
Behind her, Jacob began to shake slightly, "Don't get me upset."
Kate turned and put her hands on his chest, "Hey, not in my house!"
Bella stood up and got in between them, "Hey! Alice, could you give us a moment?"
Kate grabbed Alice's arm roughly, "Come on, I want a few words with you," she said before dragging the vampire outside.
Once they made it outside, Kate began to fume.
"How dare you Alice! Don't you dare interrupt me," she said as soon as Alice tried to speak. Kate's hands were glowing blue as her emotions couldn't let them stay in check. "You have the audacity to come here after months after you thought Bella died! What you don't know is that Bella 'died' the day that you all left. She hasn't been the same and I had to watch as my sister withered away before my eyes and now you come back like nothing happened. I will never forgive you! You and Edward can go fuck yourselves along with the rest of your selfish family. Wherever you go, death and misery follow."
"Need I remind you who helped you control your powers," Alice retorted.
"Need I remind you whose fault it was that I have these powers?"
Alice's face went into a frown before it went blank. Kate was about to punch that still look off her face but Alice sped off into the house. Kate had no choice but to follow her. Bella and Jacob were close having a heated argument when they stepped into the kitchen.
"Bella! Bella, it's Edward," Alice cried out in a panic, "He thinks you're dead. Rosalie told him why I came here."
Bella turned on Jacob, "Why didn't you let me speak to him?"
"He didn't ask for you!"
"I DON'T CARE!"
Alice intervened, "Bella, he's gone to the Volturi. He want's to die too."
Kate took a few steps back. It felt just like it had when she jumped into the icy water. Her lungs seemed to freeze up and her body went cold. A feeling of death waded into the room washing over her. It was the Volturi, someone was going to die and Kate hoped it would be Edward.
