CHAPTER 182
CEO
This struck a chord with Linda. Ninaâs fondness for Nash made it difficult for Linda to comprehend how she could bear to divorce him.
Could it be that Nina was trying to confuse her and lower her guard? Nina had previously cautioned her against developing an infatuation with Nash, yet it seemed that Nina herself had developed feelings for him.
With a child on the way, Linda worried that Nina might plot against the child in the future.
Feeling apprehensive, Linda held her belly tightly. She was determined not to let Nina succeed and harm her child.
Observing Lindaâs expression, Miranda decided to end the conversation. âYou should rest well. Remember to drink the soup; itâs good for the baby. Iâll leave now.â
With that, Miranda walked out, a faint smirk playing on her lips. Linda felt unsettled by Mirandaâs words. She knew she had to take action. Suddenly, she thought of Ninaâs aunt and cousin. She wondered how they were doing.
Nina had just finished giving her statement at the police station when Xander appeared at the door.
âNina!â
Xander didnât resemble his brother, Zion, much. Approaching fifty, his face was pale with a few wrinkles. He stubbed out his cigarette and crushed it underfoot before questioning, âWhereâs your aunt?â
Nina didnât have a close bond with this uncle. They hadnât been close since childhood. Her aunt often spoke negatively about her in front of her uncle, causing discord. He remained indifferent to her and never showed any affection.
When she was young and living with her grandparents, her aunt believed they favored her more and neglected Sue. This created resentment in her auntâs mind. Because of this belief, her uncle rarely showed concern for them. Nina felt detached from him and replied calmly, âI donât know. You can ask the police.â
âI heard from Sue that you sent your aunt to jail. She treated you well. Is this how you repay her?â Xanderâs tone was full of anger.
Nina responded, âItâs a matter of
fact. If she hadnât done anything wrong, she wouldnât be in there.
Didnât Lily say you were avoidingnet
debt? How can you stand hereby
the police station and not fear
getting arrested?â
Xander, seeing her lack of remorse, finally saw her true colors. His face darkened. âOur family has been ruined because of you. How can I not intervene? You better release your aunt.â âSheâll only be detained for a day. Sheâll be released tomorrow.â
Xander had been a troublemaker in his youth, and it seemed not much had changed as he reached middle age.
With their relationship completely strained, Nina stated, âIf thereâs nothing else, Iâll be leaving now.â
âWait!â Xander called out, turning towards her. âI heard from your aunt that you married into a wealthy family.â
Upon hearing this, Nina furrowed her brows.
âNow that youâre married to wealth, you should share some of it,â Xander approached her, speaking boldly. âDonât blame me for bringing up our family ties. When you were young and living with our grandparents, you relied on me for support. Now that youâre grown up and have money of your own, itâs time to repay me.â
âI donât need much from you, just one million,â Xander lit another cigarette. âThe York family is incredibly wealthy, and youâve made quite a fortune for yourself over the years. One million is a small sum for you.â
QUMS
Nina had anticipated this. Her uncle was even greedier than she had imagined. She turned to him and said, âOne million? Thatâs extortion.â
âIâm in a tough spot and need money,â Xander replied. âOnce I have the money, Iâll repay you too.â
Nina retorted, âHave you repaid my father his money?â
