CHAPTER 24
CEO
Chapter 24
Even the person who wanted to hit Nina could only cover her face, holding back her grievances. Nash stared coldly at: them. âDonât you understand the situation? Who should you apologize to?â
They immediately understood and hurried to Nina, speaking humbly, Sorry, Nina, we shouldnât have
speculated randomly. We know we were wrong and wonât dare to do it again.â
They knew Nashâs power. Here, no matter how capable they were, they shouldnât oppose the York family. If they offended him, they could forget about having a good time in the company in the future. They still had families, children, parents, and couldnât risk their jobs.
Nina naturally wouldnât hold it against them, but she still hadnât understood why Nash was here, staring at him blankly. âWhat are you doing here?â
Nash looked at her, his dissatisfaction
palpable. He grabbed her arm, still angry, and said coldly, âCome home with me!â
Nina shook off his hand. âWhy should I go with you? We have nothing to do with each other.â
Their conversation left everyone present confused. Everyone knew Nina was Nashâs secretary; there was no reason to bring up going home. Nash smelled the alcohol on her and became even more displeased. âWhat else do you want?â
With the alcohol emboldening her, Nina stared at him. âCanât you see? The class reunion isnât over yet.â
Nashâs patience wore thin. He adjusted his tie and said coldly, âClass reunion? Havenât you been bullied enough? Come with me now!â
Furrowing his brows, he grabbed Ninaâs hand and headed out.
At that moment, Scott hurried over. He caught Ninaâs other hand and said
politely, âMr. York, Nina has finished work. Is it appropriate to do this?â
Nash looked at him coldly. âAnd what can you do? Just stand by and let her be criticized?â
Feeling guilty, Scott apologized to Nina. â Iâm sorry, I didnât take care of you properly just now, and you had a bad experience,â
He shouldnât have left her alone to talk to
others.
Nina looked at him. âItâs okay, Iâm fine. Just a few words from others, what does it have to do with you? In this world, with so many people and so many mouths, you canât silence everyone. It wonât affect me. Donât listen to what others say.â
Her words made Nash very unhappy. He had just defended her, and now she was defending someone else and scolding
him.
Nina remembered why she had come and handed her suit jacket to Scott. âHereâs your jacket. Take it.â
Scott took it. âIâll take you homeââ
âNo need!â Nash looked coldly at Scott. âIâll take her.â
âMr. York,â Scott reminded, âNina has finished work. She has her own free time.
Nash glanced at Nina, feeling increasingly irritated. His gaze
sharpened, and he said coldly to Scott, â Iâm not speaking as a boss right now, Mr. Lucas. My relationship with Nina is much closer than you imagine. Taking her home is my responsibility.â
âIâll go with Mr. York.â Nina didnât want to make things awkward and looked at Scott. âHeâs going my way. You stay with the others.â
Scott looked worriedly at Nina. âAre you sure?â
âIâm fine.â
Nina cautioned him, âDrink less, and if you canât, remember to call a driver.
Donât drive yourself.â
Nash didnât want to hear them talk
anymore. He hoisted Nina onto his shoulders and sternly ordered, âLetâs go home!â
As the world spun around her, Nina was startled, feeling nauseous. She was on the verge of throwing up, squirming in his arms. âNash, what are you doing? This is making me uncomfortable. Put me down, now!â
And so, the two of them disappeared from everyoneâs sight.
âAre they really just boss and
subordinate? Could there be something more between them?â!
They speculated, feeling that their relationship was unusual. If it was just a boss and secretary, there wouldnât be such concern about each otherâs whereabouts.
Scott frowned. âStop guessing. I trust Nina more.â
With that said, they moved on, no longer discussing the matter.
Nina was lifted by Nash and then placed on the ground again. Nash frowned at her slightly intoxicated face, unable to distinguish between reality and illusion. He expressed irritation, âYouâve become bolder. Who allowed you to drink outside?
Nina was already feeling dizzy and couldnât make sense of things. She leaned against him, unable to discern directions.
Seeing her silence and her head buried in his chest, Nashâs frown deepened, his tone growing colder. âNot talking? You usually only drink tea with me at the table, but now youâre drinking with Scott. Do you no know your own alcohol tolerance? Or did Scott give you the courage to drinkâ¦â
Nash was still bothered by Scott. As he scolded, he suddenly felt warmth on his chest, realizing that his shirt was wet. He lifted Ninaâs head and found her silently crying. Instantly, all his anger dissipated, and he even felt a bit lost. His tone
softened considerably. âWhatâs wrong?â

Chapter 24
He rarely saw Nina cry. In front of him, she never showed her vulnerability, always strong enough to handle any difficulty. Seeing her cry caught him off guard, leaving him unsure of what to say. âWhy are you treating me like this?â Ninaâs voice was hoarse, perhaps under the influence of alcohol, she finally didnât need to pretend to be strong anymore, accusing, âWhy do you always bully me, scold me? Am I easy to bully? Nash, youâre really a jerk!â
Her fist landed on Nashâs chest, venting her frustration. Facing her tears, Nash couldnât be as tough anymore. He pulled her into his embrace, the sharpness
between his brows seeming to melt away. He opened his mouth, unsure how to make her stop crying, and could only say, âNina, stop crying.â
Nina couldnât stop, the accumulated grievances wanting to burst out, âWhy am I not allowed to cry? Is crying reserved only for Miranda? Does my crying bother you that much? Since
youâre so bothered, why bother coming to me? Just let me fend for myself!â
She pushed away from Nashâs embrace, about to crouch down. Nash looked at her, curled up in a ball, crying hard, softly sobbing. Her eyes were red, momentarily resembling a little girl who hadnât grown up. Nash had never seen her like this before. She appeared somewhat childishly sulky with a hint of silliness. He didnât know why, but it was rather amusing.
He crouched down beside her, placing his hand on her back. âAlright, I wonât bring up todayâs events. Letâs go home.â
âIâm not going back.â Nina was sulking, turning away and squatting down like an injured puppy. âAfter going home, youâll just bully me again. I donât want to be bullied by you anymore!â Nash continued to coax her. âI wonât bully you. Will you come home with me?â
Nina shook her head.
âWhat will it take for you to come home? â Nash asked patiently.
âIâm not that easy to pacify. Nash, Iâm very angry. You canât coax me.â Her tears fell again. âYouâve never known how to comfort me. You simply canât.â
