Chapter 25
Thinking about the grievances she had endured, Nina cried even harder. Her tears attracted onlookers.
âHey buddy, did you upset your girlfriend? Look at her crying like that, she must have been really upset!â A passerby couldnât help but comment upon seeing the situation. Nash didnât want to deal with this in
public. He had never encountered such a situation before. âSheâs just throwing a tantrum. Sheâll be fine in a while,â he said.
He tried to pick up Nina to take her away, but she clung to him like an eel, crying loudly.
âPatience is key when coaxing your girlfriend,â another passerby advised. âYou must have upset her for her to refuse to leave with you. No girl gets angry for no reason.â
Nash had no idea why she was angry. He wasnât even angry himself, so where was her temper coming from? But seeing her cry so much, he didnât know what to say.
Nash got a headache. He had never comforted a woman like this before, feeling awkward and helpless. It was even harder than negotiating a business deal. âNina, how can I make you not angry?â he asked. Nina lifted her head, seeing Nash bowing his head. She opened her arms. âCarry me, and Iâll tell you.â
âI told you, your girlfriend is upset,â the passerby chuckled.
Although Nash didnât quite understand, he complied with Ninaâs request,
squatting down and carrying her on his back.
Nina leaned against his shoulder, tears still streaming down her face and dripping onto Nashâs neck.
He said, âStop crying. Youâre a grown woman but still crying like a child.â
âIf you didnât upset me, why would I cry?â Nina muttered into his shoulder.
Nash remained silent.
Nina seemed half drunk, half awake, her hands tightly wrapped around his neck. â Nash, this is the first time youâve carried me.â
âYeah.â
âWerenât you supposed to be with
Miranda? Why did you come find me?â
âI was worried you might be at a disadvantage.â
Nina chuckled bitterly. âWell, at least
having you carry me all this way is not for a loss.â
âDo you like it?â Nash asked.
âI do,â Nina replied. âThis feels like a real intimate relationship.â
Despite being married for so long, they hadnât experienced the same things as ordinary couples. Even a simple embrace felt sweet. Unfortunately, those moments were rare.
Nina understood. âThis might be our last intimate moment. When we divorce, you wonât be able to carry me anymore. Youâll have someone else to carry then.â Unable to hold back, Nina sniffled.
Hearing this, Nash furrowed his brows and instinctively held Nina tighter. â Nina, if you donât want to divorce-âI
âGag-â
Nina suddenly vomited all over Nash.
Nashâs brows furrowed even tighter, just as their car pulled up.
The driver who was supposed to take Nash had already been called to escort someone else; Quincy was called in at the last minute.
Seeing Nina vomit on Nash, Quincy was surprised. âMr. York, your clothes are dirty. Ninaâs drunk, itâs not intentional. Iâll have someone get you a new set.â
Quincy was already surprised to see Nash carrying Nina, and now she had vomited on him. Tomorrow, Nina was likely to suffer again. He instinctively tried to speak kindly to her.
But Nash wasnât as angry as one might expect. Instead, he placed Nina in the passenger seat and glanced back at Quincy. âIâll drive myself, you can go back.â
Quincy glanced at Nina. âDonât you need me to take Nina home?â
âNo need.â
Nash settled into the driverâs seat, took off the soiled clothes and tossed them onto the backseat, then grabbed some wet wipes to clean Ninaâs mouth. This scene shocked Quincy. Was this still the indifferent and aloof Mr. York? Was this still the rational and composed Nina? Did he run into ghosts today?
As the car drove away, Quincy remained stunned, wondering if he had mistaken someone else for them. This was hardly normal.
Nash brought the drunk Nina back home. Sally was still awake at that time. Upon seeing Nashâs return, she began to complain, âNash, where did Nina
disappear to this time? She never comes home. She really doesnât care about the York familyâ¦â
However, her tone changed when she saw Nash carrying Nina back. She was surprised. Catching a whiff of alcohol, she furrowed her brows. âIs Nina drunk? She doesnât seem like a proper daughter-in-law o the York family!â
A Nashâs cold gaze fell on Sally. âArenât you going to bed? What idle gossip are you spreading here?â
âNash, Iâm not gossiping. How can a girl go out and get drunk like this?â Sallyâs words dripped with disdain.
Nash carried Nina upstairs. âIf you canât stand it, you can move out.â
Sally watched Nashâs retreating figure, feeling a bit upset. âHow can you say that about your mother for her sake?â
In the bedroom, Nash carefully placed Nina on the bed.
âItchy, so itchyâ¦â Nina scratched her arms randomly.
