CHAPTER 72
CEO
Chapter 72
She knocked on the door.
âCome in!â cáme Nashâs voice, neither warm nor cold.
Entering the room, Nina saw Nash busy on his computer. Lately, he had been preoccupied with preparations for the upcoming gala, and she wondered what more he had to attend to after returning home from work.
Nash glanced up at her. âWhatâs the matter?â
Nina replied, âTomorrow is the annual gala of the York Corporation, and Iâm planning to attend.â
This caught Nashâs attention, and his gaze focused on her.
âI recall you donât enjoy such events.â
Indeed, she didnât fancy attending such events, finding them too attention-seeking and noisy. Previously, she didnât see the necessity, but now she did.
Nina smiled and said, âPeople change.â
âVery well,â Nash said. âIâll have someone prepare a gown for you.â
âNo need, Iâve already chosen one.â
Nina was prepared, and she added with a smirk, âOn your card.â
With that, Nina left.
Nash hesitated for a moment.
However, spending his money brought a hint of amusement to his lips.
At the York Corporationâs Charity Gala, many dignitaries made their entrance.
One after another, chauffeured cars arrived at the rear courtyard.
Nina found herself in the dressing room, alongside other artists. To ensure ample time for women to prepare, there was a dedicated dressing area, which was quite thoughtful.
Nina was waiting for Yvonne, but instead, she saw Miranda arrive. Today, Miranda appeared plain-faced, dressed very simply, with seven or eight assistants by her side. It seemed she intended to do her grooming here.
Glancing at Nina, who sported a black suit and her hair in an updo, maintaining her usual secretary appearance, Miranda smiled and quipped, âEveryone else is getting dolled up, why are you still here? Arenât you attending tonightâs event? Or did Nash not grant you permission and assigned you to work as staff here?â
âMiranda, thereâs no need for you to meddle so much,â Nina said coldly.
âIâm not interested in meddling now, butâ¦â Miranda approached, leaning in closer to Ninaâs ear. âWho knows if Iâll be meddling in the future, Secretary Nina.â

She emphasized the title âSecretary Nina,â already envisioning herself as part of the York family. Miranda had assumed the role of the lady of the house, while Nina remained a mere secretary. Miranda could order her around as she pleased.
With that said, Miranda grandly led her assistants into the largest dressing room.
Later onâ¦
âMiss Zimmerman!â
The event staff called out to Penelope upon spotting her. She was currently the hottest female artist, and no event was complete without her presence. She was amiable and approachable with the staff, but today she seemed downcast. Upon seeing Miranda occupying the largest dressing room, her expression soured, and she simply nodded faintly.
She chose not to enter the room to wait, opting instead to sit on an outdoor chair, a spot typically frequented by lesser-known artists. This indicated Penelopeâs indifference to her
status.
Nina observed closely and had someone deliver a glass of water to her. When Penelope received it and realized it was from Nina, she smiled faintly, displaying her manners. Nina returned the smile. âNina!â Yvonne arrived, fully prepared, her assistant holding a gift box. âLiz has already made the alterations for you. Go try it on. You must stun everyone tonight.â
âItâs all thanks to your effort. Otherwise, I wouldnât have the opportunity to wear such a stunning dress!â
âCome on, hurry up! Itâll probably take a while for you to get styled. Iâm already itching with anticipation!â Yvonne summoned her assistant while the makeup artist got ready to style Nina.
Just then, a disgruntled voice emanated from the largest dressing room. âHow could you mess this up? Didnât I tell you to have it ready by last night, no matter what? But instead, you informed me that we had to switch the gown for Miranda! Thatâs her favorite gown! Itâs as if you donât value her at all!â
âWeâve altered this gown countless times, but Miranda remains unsatisfied. Weâre at our witâs end!â
âYou completely disregard what I say. Just one word from Miranda, and your shop will have to shut down!â
