CHAPTER 74
CEO
Chapter 74
Mirandaâs assistant caught wind of the news and whispered in her ear, âMiranda, I heard itâs Nina. Sheâs the one causing trouble!â
Her gaze automatically shifted towards Nina.
As she chatted with Yvonne, comparing the gowns they held, Miranda felt a surge of annoyance. She approached her. âNina, so itâs you. You knew I would be attending the gala and wanted to embarrass me?â Seeing Nina getting ready for makeup and dressing up, Miranda sneered, âTrying to compete with me? Or trying to catch Nashâs eye?â
Nina sat in a chair while Yvonneâs makeup artist styled her hair. She caught a glimpse of Mirandaâs arrogant expression in the mirror. Only in her presence would Miranda reveal her true colors. Nina didnât look up, responding calmly, âYou have quite the imagination. I dress up to please myself.â
âQuite the self-righteous one, arenât you? Why did you disrupt my dress alteration?â Miranda retorted. âIt bothered you when you overheard Ruby and Liz discussing alterations for my dress so you schemed against me behind my back! And now you want to outshine me at tonightâs gala! Your scheming knows no bounds.â
Yvonne couldnât hold back. âMiranda, donât be so full of yourself, playing the victim!â Miranda turned to Yvonne. âYou have no right to interfere when Nina and I are talking.â Yvonne was livid. âYou have no shame! Who do you think you are, just a home-wreckerâ¦â With a slap, Miranda struck Yvonne, feigning victimhood. âYou⦠I wonât allow you to insult me!â
Yvonne was stunned by the slap. Seeing Mirandaâs eyes welling up with tears, despite being the aggressor, pretending to be the victim.
Absolutely disgusting!
âIâll tear apart your hypocritical facade!â Yvonne moved to hit her.
Mirandaâs assistant wasnât one to back down, seizing Yvonne and immobilizing her.
Then, Yvonneâs entourage also joined in the scuffle.
The scene was chaotic, especially seeing Yvonne getting hit, it pained Nina deeply. She shouted, âStop it, all of you!â
She turned to Miranda, her tone stern, âMiranda, donât get too carried away. You havenât even become Mrs. York yet, and youâre already acting like her! Do you think Iâm oblivious? If you keep flaunting your power, Iâll expose all your ugly deeds! No matter how much Nash protects you, he canât silence everyoneâs voices, can he?â
Miranda simply wanted Nina to see that, even as Nashâs wife, Nina couldnât compete with her.

In the eyes of outsiders, merely being the woman Nash was going to marry was enough! But she also knew when to draw the line: âThatâs enough, everyone. No matter how uncivilized others are, we canât stoop to their level. We still need to maintain the York familyâs reputation!â
âAlright, Miranda, we wonât sink to her level. Just a mere secretary acting all high and mighty,
the assistant jeered. âMiranda may be forgiving, but if she werenât, Mr. York would have
sacked you ages ago. Donât you know how to behav
She was so brazenly flaunting her status as Mr. Yorkâs future wife that everyone knew it. By speaking like this, everyone would naturally assume it to be true and give Nash some respect.
At that moment, no one dared to speak up much.
Yvonne couldnât fathom Miranda being so audacious; it was a bit reckless.
But Miranda appeared to relish the flattery, neither denying nor rejecting it, a smug smile playing on her lips.
She had definitely got her share of respect.
Even Penelope could only watch, suppressing her anger and remaining silent.
Ninaâs colleague advised her, âNina, pretend you didnât hear anything. Itâs better for your future. Today, nobody can afford to offend her!â
Nina glanced at the vivid red handprint on Yvonneâs cheek, her gaze turning icy. Amidst their arrogance and conceit, she approached and casually delivered a slap to Miranda in return.
