Chapter 341
The Imposter Bride (Natalia and Magnus)
The minute she started musing about James, he broke the silence, as though he could read her mind. Sensing the atmosphere becoming a touch dull, James turned to Diana with an easy-going question, âMiss Diana, they say seeing is believing, and I must say, I've admired you from afar. Would you perhaps have some free time? Would I have the honor of inviting you to visit Melfort for a while?"
His words left both Magnus and Diana momentarily speechless. After a brief pause, Magnus clocked James' intention to woo Diana into revealing Natalia's whereabouts. He secretly gave James a thumbs-up, admiring his clever plan.
James smirked with satisfaction. After all, he was James, the perfect blend of good looks and intelligence. Other than Magnus, who could outsmart him in this world?
Meanwhile, Diana's heart fluttered like a deer running through the forest at James' invitation. Was he so taken with her that he was ready to fall at her feet? But, why wasn't the invitation coming from Mr. Andersen?
Had it been him, she would have accepted without hesitation!
With these thoughts whirling in her head, Diana turned to Magnus. "Mr. Andersen, are you, like James, interested in inviting me to Melfort, to your headquarters in Melfort?"
Feeling uncomfortable under Diana's intense gaze, Magnus responded with feigned honor, âOf course, Miss Diana. It would be a great privilege for us if you could visit Melfort!â
This thrilled Diana. She was convinced that Magnus was a gentle and restrained gentleman and that this was probably his idea in the first place, which James simply voiced. Even though James was handsome, she preferred men like Mr. Andersen â icy on the outside but warm-hearted within.
Given time, she was sure she could transform Magnus into the ideal man of hers!
âSince Mr. Andersen has extended such a gracious invitation, how could I possibly refuse?â Diana fluttered her mascara-laden eyelashes, expressing her gratitude. âMr. Andersen, I hope we can continue to enjoy our friendship.â
Magnus nodded awkwardly, finding Diana's theatrics a bit excessive. Meanwhile, James chuckled to himself. The charming Mr. Magnus seemed to be a hit with the ladies wherever he went!
Just then, William approached with a glass of wine. Having made the rounds at the party, he didn't want to neglect his important guests and hurried over.
Placing his crystal goblet of wine on the table, William asked with a smile, âWhat are you all chatting about? Looks like you're having a good time.â
âWe were just making small talk. Mr. Andersen and I hit it off, and he's invited me to visit his headquarters.â Diana boasted.
William was taken aback. âThatâs... not appropriate, is it?â
âHow is it inappropriate?â Diana stood up in anger. âMr. Andersen has kindly invited me. What do you mean by that?â
William was left embarrassed. His sister had a temper and was not afraid to show it, even towards him.
âDiana, we canât be so reckless. What if Mr. Andersen was just being polite? Moreover, it's a long way from Rome to Melfort, a place where we know nobody. What if something happens?â William tried to reason with his sister, advising her not to trust strangers too quickly.
Hearing Williamâs words, Diana became even more upset. âWilliam! How could you? If they can travel all this way, why can't I?â
âExactly, Mr. William. Mr. Andersen greatly admires your sister's talent, which is why he extended the invitation. It would allow her to familiarize herself with our local customs and benefit future cooperation. We mean no harm, and you shouldn't overthink it.â James interjected, a mocking smile on his face.
âThat...â Williamâs face turned awkward. âThatâs not what I meant, Mr. Andersen, Mr. James. I think you misunderstood.â
Deep down, William was worried. If Mr. Andersen had taken a liking to Diana and wanted to invite her to Melfort, he would be thrilled. But what James had implied was that they were interested in Dianaâs design talent. The designs, however, were not Dianaâs work. If they found out she was a fraud, they might cancel the cooperation plans with Stitches Fashion, something he didn't want. So, both sentimentally and rationally, he had to stop his sister, who was clearly smitten with Mr. Andersen.
Therefore, William turned to Diana and gently suggested, âDiana, how about this? Next time when I get a chance, I can accompany you to meet Mr.
Andersen. How does that sound?â
Diana stomped her foot in defiance. "That's not going to fly! I don't want you tagging along, who knows when you'll find the time!"
William's face paled a little at Diana's outburst, but he pressed on, âItâs not like that, Diana. Melfort is just so far away, I canât help but worry.â
Before Diana could respond, James cut in. âWhatâs this? Are you implying weâd do something inappropriate to your sister?â
âNo, not at all, James, you misunderstand,â William stuttered, flustered.
James continued to mock, âHuh, who wouldâve thought our formidable multinational corporation would be misunderstood like this? I wonder if our partnership will be smooth sailing after all.â
His words struck William like a bolt from the blue. He hurriedly shook his head. âNo, I didnât mean that, James, Mr. Andersen, I really didn't mean that, please let me explain."

With that, Diana stomped away in her high heels, her mood soured by her overbearing brother.
"Mr. Andersen, I think we should leave too before we cause any more misunderstandings," James said to Magnus, feigning offense. He pulled Magnus to his feet from the couch, ready to make their exit.
