Chapter 431
The Imposter Bride (Natalia and Magnus)
The news came back quicker than a New York minute, and the beaming hospital director was all smiles as he delivered the tidings. âOh, congratulations, Mr. Andersen, and felicitations! Mrs. Andersen is five weeks along. This is indeed a joyous occasion!â
Over the moon, Magnus swept Natalia up in a whirl of elation, spinning on the spot as he bellowed, âFantastic! Finally, I might have a daughter!â
Jonas joined in with applause, his laughter ringing out. âHa, thatâs awesome! I'm gonna be a big brother!â
As the ecstatic duo celebrated, Natalia, slightly dizzy, leaned into Magnusâ embrace, murmuring, âCan we stop spinning, please? My headâs spinning, too.â
âAh? Of course, of course, I got a bit carried away and forgot I was holding you, my dear.â Pride was etched across Magnus' face. âDarling, Iâm just over the moon. Thank you for giving me another child!â
Jonas came closer, too, adding his thanks. âYeah, Mommy, I am really thankful, and soon I'll be called, big brother Jonas!â
Nataliaâs spirits lifted with the mood, but she still managed to pinch Magnus gently, whispering, âStop making a scene in front of the director.â
Only then did Magnus remember the hospital director standing by. With great cheer, he expressed his gratitude, âThank you, Director, for being so patient with us.â
âNot at all, Mr. Andersen. Itâs a great privilege for our hospital to have you and your wife here!â The director was grinning from ear to ear.
It seemed even the usually tough-to-please Mr. Andersen had his Achilles' heel â the sweet-smiling woman in his arms. Now, the director thought, securing that investment for the hospital would be a piece of cake.
Calculating his next move, the director nodded at Magnus. âMr. Andersen, your wife is only five weeks along. Itâs crucial to take good care of her health at this stage. So, our hospital has an excellent medical team, and I've decided to assign a special squad to provide comprehensive care throughout your wifeâs pregnancy.â
Magnus thought that sounded like a good plan, saving him the trouble of bringing in doctors from Melfort.
But the directorâs humility surely had a motive. Magnus cut to the chase. âAlright then, much obliged.â
Aware that it was all give and take, Magnus turned back to the director. âAnd what would you have me do in return?â If it was for his wife's benefit, he was willing to do anything.
The director, a bit sheepish now that his ulterior motive was out in the open, began to fidget. âWell, Mr. Andersen, to be frank, our hospital is expanding, and we're a bit short on funds. Weâd like to invite you to invest in us to help us through this financial crunch.â
âNo problem. How much do you need? Discuss the details with my assistant tomorrow. I need to be with my wife right now.â Magnus handed over his business card. âThis is my assistant's number; you can contact him directly.â
âThank you so much, Mr. Andersen! Your help would be a blessing for our hospital!â The director accepted the card with reverence and stowed it safely in his pocket.
Magnus dismissed the formalities with a nod. âThatâs fine. But make sure to crack the whip on your staff. They need to maintain professionalism and not switch faces with different patients. Remember the ethics of your profession!â
âYes, of course! Iâll see to it right away,â the director promised, bowing out with the precious business card in hand.
Magnus, still brimming with joy, left the hospital with Natalia in his arms.
On the drive home, he handled the car with utmost care, crawling over speed bumps like a snail, drawing Jonasâ protest. âDad, Iâve seen people turn sports cars into jets, but this snailâs pace is a first for me.â
Magnus glanced at Jonas. âWhat do you know, kiddo? Your momâs in her first trimester and canât take the jolts! You've got a lot to learn about being considerate. No wonder youâre hopeless at flirting.â
Jonas pouted, âI have no experience being a dad, how would I know? Besides, you took forever to give me a sibling, so whatâs there to brag about?â
âHey, mind your manners, you cheeky brat!â Magnus couldn't help but laugh. He'd thought fulfilling the dream of a second child would save him from his son's teasing. Turned out, he was still fair game.
Jonas stuck his tongue out at his father and then leaned over Natalia's still-slim waist to whisper, âAre you going to be my sister or a brother? I'm your big brother. I can't wait to play with you.â
Natalia chuckled, patting Jonas' head. âSilly boy, we don't know yet if itâs a boy or a girl. Youâll have to wait nine months to find out.â
âWhat? That long?â Jonasâ face fell. âMommy, I really want to meet my little sibling and take him or her out for a drive.â
With a shake of her head, Natalia pulled Jonas into a hug. âYou little rascal, donât you go corrupting your little brother or sister.â
Jonas gently circled Nataliaâs waist, careful as if afraid to press too hard. âMommy, I have a feeling itâs a girl.â
âWell then, if it is a girl, the honor of naming her will be yours,â Natalia said with a gentle smile.
Jonas beamed. âGreat! Don't worry, Mommy, Iâll pick a name that rolls right off the tongue.â

Natalia just smiled, and Jonas waved a little fist at his dad. âDaddy, remember, you have no say in the household rankings.â
âWhat?â Magnus laughed out loud. âAnd who might be at the bottom of this ranking?â
Jonas puffed out his chest with mock pride. âObviously, you. Mommy ranks first, then the baby, followed by me, and youâre at the very end.â
Magnus chuckled, his shoulders shaking with laughter. "And who exactly agreed to this pecking order? This is the first I'm hearing of it."
"Of course, I just made it up! Mom and sister are ladies, so naturally, they go first. I'm a little man, so I'm third in line," Jonas said earnestly, counting on his fingers.
"But I'm a big man," Magnus teased. "Shouldn't the big man be ahead of the little man?"
Jonas waved his hands dismissively and jutted his chin out at Magnus with a huff, "Psh! You're so old and still want to hog Mom's hugs at bedtime.
That's not very big man-like!"
