Chapter 101
The Lord Mayor Falls in Love with Me
Mrs. Linderman recollected herself and forced a smile, âShe is all right. Itâs my husband, Mr. Linderman. He fell down the stairs by accident and is now in the hospital. The doctor said that if he survived tonight, he would recover. But if he didnât, there would be nothing the doctor could do about it.
So I thought...you might want to see him and talk to him. If he heard your voice, he might be able to wake up sooner.â
The middle-aged beautiful woman Samantha was relieved to hear that her baby was fine, but the news of Mr. Lindermanâs hospitalization made her frown again. She asked anxiously, âHow did my cousin fall down the stairs?â
Yes, Samantha was Mr. Lindermanâs younger cousin and they had grown up together. However, after she had married into a wealthy family, she had rarely come back to visit her relatives in the countryside.
Mrs. Linderman felt guilty, but she quickly made up a lie, âPeople will inevitably get on in years. You know, heâs in his fifties now. Older people always have bad eyesight and bad knees...â
Samantha didn't suspect anything. She frowned, a little embarrassed, âMy cousin had an accident and I really should go to see him. But...but my husband will come home soon. If he couldnât find me at home, he would certainly ask about my whereabouts. Iâm afraid he will get to the bottom of it, so I canât go!â
Mrs. Linderman almost lost it when Samantha turned her down. But she soon came up with an idea. She took a step forward and whispered, âYou gave up the baby for adoption on the very day you gave birth to her, and you havenât come home to see her for some reason all these years. Iâve raised her like my own and now she has grown up to be a beautiful young woman. More importantly, she looks very much like you. Sheâs looking after my husband at the hospital right now. If you went there, you would certainly see her with your own eyes. It has been twenty-two years. Donât you want to see your own daughter?â
As she had expected, Samantha hesitated. She bit her lips and finally made up her mind after quite a while, âAll right. Iâm going to the hospital with you. But please donât tell her who I am. I...couldnât tell her the truth now. Besides, you must never come here to see me again unless there was something wrong with my baby in the future.â
It wasnât that Samantha had married up and become a snob who was unwilling to visit her poor relatives in the countryside. To be honest...she had a skeleton in the closet, and she couldn't afford to tell her husband about it. To hide her secret, she had no choice but to remain an ungrateful âbad womanâ. âAll right, I will keep it in mind.â
Mrs. Linderman nodded. She looked respectful, but deep down inside she hated Samantha very much. Sheâd rather that Samantha and her husband never met each other again. After all, there had been much going on among them.
Samantha grabbed her coat, got on the car, and drove to Chanceâs clinic with Mrs. Linderman.
The Lord Mayor Falls in Love with Me ï¤Chapter 100 A mysterious beautiful middle-aged woman Mrs. Linderman was jealous of Samanthaâs fancy car and her excellent driving skills, but she didnât dare to show it.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the clinic.
At the moment, Vivian was at the bedside of her sick father.
It was Joey who had been looking after her father since the accident. She was anxious, scared and on the verge of a mental breakdown. She had been holding her fatherâs hands and gently talking to him. But eventually she was too exhausted to stay awake. When she had fallen asleep, Allen Charles took her to bed in the next ward.
Vivian had returned from the hospital toilet after Quentin left. So she filled in Joeyâs place to look after her father at the bedside.
It was how Samantha mistook Vivian for her daughter when she walked into the room and saw Vivian.
âMy dear...â
Samantha held Vivianâs hands with excitement and instantly burst into tears.
âWho...who are you?â
Utterly confused, Vivian turned to Mrs. Linderman.
Mrs. Linderman was surprised too. But she immediately came up with a bold and crazy idea. She hesitated no more and quickly winked at Vivian, âThis is your Aunt Samantha and she is your fatherâs cousin. Come and say hello to your Auntie.â
Vivian was even more confused by the weird look on Mrs. Lindermanâs face. But she could tell from Samanthaâs designer clothes and shinning diamonds that she was probably some wealthy relative of her family. Thus she greeted Samantha in a sweet voice without hesitation, âNice to meet you, Auntie!â
