Chapter 193
The Lord Mayor Falls in Love with Me
âJoey...â
Philip sweated all over with worry when Joey fainted. He quickly drove her to the nearest hospital.
Philip was relieved when the medical test result came out, because the baby was safe and sound in Joeyâs belly. But he suddenly went pale when he read through the test result.
âAllen Charles, you bastard, what the hell have you done to her? Why did she develop such a disease?â
Philip closed his eyes. He would certainly punch Allen hard in the face if Allen was here right now.
Joey had depression during pregnancy.
Depression during pregnancy can be quite dangerous. The mother could be very sensitive, vulnerable, anxious, extreme, emotionally volatile and moody at best, and they could have a mental breakdown and fail to even take care of themselves in daily life, or even hurt others or themselves at worst.
Fortunately it was detected in time. She wouldnât need to see a psychiatrist or take medicine if she didnât dwell on the past and lived in a comfortable and secure environment without anyone around to irritate her.
However, it would require mutual efforts of herself and everyone else around her, especially Allen.
Philip finally decided to call Allen, though he didnât want to do it at all. But before he could make the call, his phone suddenly rang.
It was Martha.
âHello!â
Philip answered the call, because he had no reason to reject her call. They didnât love each other as boyfriend and girlfriend, but they had worked quite well together.
âPhilip, my mother told me that you just kidnapped Joey?â There came Marthaâs cold voice from the other end of the phone.
Philip froze for a second and shook his head with a smile, âNo, itâs not. She wanted to go out, so I gave her a ride.â
âReally?â Marthaâs voice was colder, âPhilip, donât you forget that the precondition of our deal is that you may see Joey, but you canât covet her.â
âOf course. Iâll always stick to it, but not for you. I would never do anything that she doesnât want me to do.â Philip said seriously.
âYouâd better. Where are you? Take her home right now. My mother is worried sick.â
âI was just about to call your brother. I think your bother Allen should be the one to pick her up and take her home.â
âAll right. Iâve things to do. See you.â
After hanging up, Philip called Allen.
Philip told him everything about Joeyâs current situations and condition. At the other end of the phone, Allen was shocked to hear it. He immediately left the office and rushed to the hospital.
Philip hung up and turned around to find that Joey had woken up and gotten off the bed. Now she was standing behind him silently.
âJoey, how long have you been standing here?â
Philip felt a little awkward. He hadnât been very polite with Allen on the phone. He had even shouted at Allen when he spoke of Joeyâs depression.
âLong enough to have heard every word youâve said.â
Joey looked at Philip expressionlessly, âDid you just say that...Iâm sick and I have depression?â
Philip sighed. She would know the truth sooner or later. Perhaps it would be best for her if she knew it and thus took the doctorâs advice. He said, âDonât be afraid. Itâs not a terrible disease, and your condition isnât serious. I donât know what youâve gone through in the Charles family. But I knew you werenât happy. Youâll be fine if you try to remain calm and gradually forget the unpleasant memories of the past.â
Joey was still motionless in a trance.
She was strangely calm at the moment, like a pool of stagnant water.
She knew how she developed such a disease better than anyone else.
She had depression not because of Mrs. Charlesâs unkindness and Yolandaâs meanness in the Charles family.
Ben Hawk was the one who had truly driven her insane.
The horrible memory of Ben Hawkâs assault and threat had taken a heavy toll on Joeyâs mentality. Yolanda had shown up today to awaken the memory and trigger the psychological disease.
The Lord Mayor Falls in Love with Me ï¤Chapter 192 Things went out of control Philip was intimated by Joeyâs unusual calmness. He knew that mental illnesses can be much more terrible than physical illnesses, because a person who is mentally ill probably looks perfectly normal while suffering unimaginable pain.
âPhilip, I don't want to see him now.âJoey said after a long while.
